Back when the Wii U was young, Activision supported the console by making it play host to its yearly Call of Duty franchise. The console launched with Black Ops 2 and a year later would get Call of Duty: Ghosts. However, last year's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare didn't make the jump to the Wii U, which seemed to signal the end of the franchise's involvement with Nintendo's current home system.
However, the rumour mill is running at full capacity again this year. Activison has just teased the next entry in the series - Black Ops 3 - and the official Call of Duty website has seen an addition which appears to suggest that the new game could be making its way to the Wii U.
Allow us to explain a little. The Call of Duty site allows players to link their respective console's account. Last year, the site offered these options:
However, this year, an entry for Nintendo Network ID has made the cut:
Black Ops 3 will be coded by Treyarch - the developer responsible for bringing Black Ops 2 and Ghosts to the Wii U - and according to Activision is set in the future, like Advanced Warfare:
Call of Duty®: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most-played games in Call of Duty® history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever.
Of course, we've been here before. Prior to launch there were rumours that Advanced Warfare was Wii U-bound, and that turned out not to be the case.
Do you think the addition of the Nintendo Network ID means that Black Ops 3 is coming to Wii U? Or could it merely be something that Activision is introducing across all of its dedicated game websites? Let us know what you think by posting a comment below, and keep those pinches of salt at the ready.

Intriguing! I was so excited when we finally got Nuketown for Black Ops II on Wii U, only to be let down with AW not coming to the platform :/
I don't know how I feel about this, but if there's any hope of 3rd parties coming back to our system, WE SHOULD PROBABLY SUPPORT THIS!!
I'll buy on Wii U if it ends up coming out on it!!
Where's Counter-Strike for Wii U?
Gyro-assisted aiming on the Wii U or mouse+keyboard for me.
I'd probably get it to support the platform. Interesting.
Something tells me that it will be cancelled on Wii U and maybe some smaller version coming for the New 3DS instead.
Interesting. If it does come to the Wii U, will it get DLC?
@Zerodactyl
thats one of the Steam system sellers. no cance for wii u.
@outburst
i like the idea of gyro assisted fine aiming
Adavanced Warfare was boring anyway so Nintendo gamers didn't miss much
still if it is coming it's a good sign for Nintendo, while some people may hate CoD it's still a huge franchise and you need big franchises to keep your system going
Might very well happen. I liked black ops on wii and black ops 2 on wii U. I'm probably buying it if it releases.
I also liked that gameplay balance they had in multiplayer. The only thing I want is the aforementioned gyro assisted fine aiming, that helps loads.
i'd happily buy this for wii u over my X1 but i would like the Wii U version to have more than 2 players locally. (screw you COD Ghosts)
I dont think it is though, black ops 2 used the NNID and the website covers multiple games. If the rumours are true and they are ditching the 360/ps3 versions of this one i don't see the Wii U getting one because of the powerPC/x86 difference. I think it depends how much influence Treyarch have over platforms
Consider me teased
If it comes and isn't rubbish, will trade in my PS4 COD AW for this.
Maybe Black Ops 2 sold well enough on the Wii U that Activision decided to port Black Ops 3 over. But that doesn’t sound too likely.
Include eshop release this time around and I'm in day one
Treyarch has been making CoD games for Nintendo consoles since World at War, so there is a big chance that they would bring this game to Wii U.
I would love to play COD on my Wii U again. Why would they have made linking possible if it was to stop the support? Looking forward to play bo3 on my console.
If this is futuristic again, im skipping it, im done with those.
I love Black Ops II and Treyarch has been treating us right all the way back to the Wii. I truly hope BO3 lands on the Wii, it have been replaying the same maps for over two years now!
Got the of COD games on WiiU , I would definitely get this one. Keep the excellent pointer controls though, otherwise no way
If the game is good and it plays smooth on 60 fps, I'm getting this.
I really don't expect it come to the Wii U as the sales of CoD on the Wii U are just too low for Activison to really care anymore, thus no AW on the Wii U. But this new linking feature is interesting... However I really only want the game if they properly support it and actually give us all the DLC dammit! The way we got completely screwed over with the DLC for BO 2 and Ghosts was just foul. We would literally beg Activision and Treyarch to let us buy their DLC and they simply ignored us. Sooo wrong and bad bad business.. Do it right this time or don't do it at all.
Personally I don't care for COD, but it would be nice to see a big third party title return. The Wii U has now sold about 10 million and the previous COD's on Wii U didn't sell that bad so the investment would be worth it.
@Hy8ogen A year or two after release and probably only one extra map.
@JLPick oh interesting! On the n3ds instead I think I'd pick it up! Just don't like the cod games, tried the two on WiiU and just got bored so I would think it would be the same with this for me, but n3ds, I'd give it a shot.
Perhaps the fact that Wii U sales have picked up a lot in wake of recent big titles, this is viable again. Especially since Treyarch have a great history of Nintendo ports. I really hope this is true! Will certainly buy it day one if it comes out for Wii U. Had lots of fun with the last two titles to arrive on the console.
By the way, is it possible to go in there and link the account? Maybe I should do that to encourage them to port.
I don't get this. Nintendo-only gamers don't care about this series as proven by the fact that Black Ops 2 and Ghosts did not sell well on the Wii U. If Nintendo-only gamers did care about the series they'd own either a PlayStation or Xbox where they could actually play the games, but then they obviously wouldn't be Nintendo-only gamers.
Anyways, we'll have to see I guess. I'm perfectly happy with Ghosts on my PS3. I don't really see the need to buy such a similar game every November; having just one in the series is good enough for me.
Been playing alot of blops 2 recently, would pick this up for £20 or so any day, can't wait!
I hope it does would be awesome .
Gyro aiming and GamePad co-op please! And Wiimote of course.
Definitely New 3DS
If it happened for Wii U I'd probably buy it to help Nintendo's future. If Nintendo can't get the big 3rd party games on the NX (assuming it's a home console) then I think it'll follow the trend of having even less sales than the predecessor (Wii U) forcing them to follow even more disgusting smartphone tactics to stay alive.
I couldn't care less about Call of Duty and Activision.
I'm ready for a solid shooter. Time to mix up my gaming habits. I'm down for call of duty
Nah. Doubt it.
I always thought that Treyarch is the only Call of Duty developer that still believes in Nintendo, and it is a good thing they are the main coders for the Black Ops sub-series since the beginning.
If it did in fact come to Wii U I would likely buy it since I haven't played a Call of Duty game since Black Ops 1 and would like an online shooter for Wii U. If this all ends up being untrue then I will just purchase Black Ops 2 since that game has come down in price quite a bit.
Nazi zombie amiibo confirmed. But seriously, IMO Treyarch makes the best COD games. Bring it on.
maybe if people link their nintendo id's on the site they will see that there is demand for the game but also this could just be added because nintendo is finally allowing nintendo id's to be connected to sites.
I actually enjoyed black ops 2 a great deal. I'm not really into the multiplayer aspect of CoD and so after the 6 or so hours of the single player I didn't really feel the need to go back and do anything further. I'd love to see some more replay value in the single player campaigns of CoD, perhaps objective based gameplay that has more things to do on harder difficulty settings and adds more to the story. Something different than just running from one set piece to the next... But I digress. I do like Treyarch's offerings and would probably pick this up if it came to Wii U
Bought BO2 day 1 with my Wii U, really enjoyed the gamepad tv 2 player. Only problem was that the most amount of people I ever saw online was about 5000. Hardcover mode was about 100 or so made it difficult to find good matches. So many campers lol
I wouldn't mind having another COD, though I'd definitely need to save up some money since I already got a lot of games on my wishlist.
If it comes out on WiiU I'll buy it to support the system.
The franchise makes so much money, so they can afford to do a Wii U version even if it won't sell as well.
I mean back in the day, we had DS versions for christ sake....
@vio
Just a heads up, the Wii U COD audience is now about the same size as the PC audience (in which you can say its a potentially growing number vs the falling numbers of PC users). http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=call+of+duty
With falling numbers from ghost to AW and drop off of last gen (xbox 360 & PS3) console purchases, Activision are going to need the wii U unit sales to add to their bottom line. Hopefully they bring some level of parity across platforms as that exclusivity period is no longer bringing in more sales (PS4 AW is outselling XBO http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=advanced+warfare). Black ops 3 might be the last COD the Wii U gets, so lets hope all the DLC plus an E-shop version is released.
I'd be interested but BO2 was awful
@JLPick I'd get that, probably.
Nice enjoyed Ops 2 on XBOX 360 but get on it Wii U this time instead of my Xbox One (Saving it for Halo 5)
No interest in COD at all, but I do hope it comes to Wii U and sells well.
I hope it does come to wii u,but if i do get it it'll probably be on PS4.To be honest I burned out on COD years ago.
I hope so! Treyarch's COD never disappoints so I would buy this pretty fast.
Maybe they hope to wrangle in some of the under 18 kids who will have been playing Splatoon all Summer?
Of course I know, no children under 18 play COD.
I hope this is true. BO2 was the first CoD I owned (not the first I played, though) and I had a lot of fun with it. The two-screen split-screen was especially nice. I didn't have nearly as much fun with Ghosts.
I might even buy it if it comes to Wii U, it doesn't hurt to play a mindless shooter once in a while
I'd say its 50-50.
With Treyarch developing, there is a chance.
Give it to me...! The combination of Wiimote support and dual screen multi ensures that the Wii U versions of any CoD release are the only ones with any appeal, despite any technical hiccups.
Not a big CoD guy, but I was a heavy fragger in my youth, so it satiates a deeply ingrained need to spill blood. I hate to admit it, but since I've been playing BO2 for so long, so if BO3 doesn't come to Wii U it will be sort of devastating...
Ha!God why would anyone think this game that's third party i will remind you ever come to the Wiiu?Oh wait Treyarch is making it?Still why would they make a Wiiu version,knowing it will sell like garbage?
This just may be a sign. If they didn't intend to bring BOIII to the Wii U, why would they bother letting us link our Nintedo Network IDs to the site when the last CoD title to hit the Wii U was Ghosts? I'm actually pretty hyped about this. I know there's no confirmation yet, but I played Black Ops on the Wii and Black Ops II on the Wii U and couldn't put them down. Activision probably won't waste their time with this, but an HD remaster of the first Black Ops for the Wii U would be very welcome. Could just be a pet project, if anything at all.
I hope BO3 comes to Wii U, if it won't no call of duty for me this year either.
I'm really tired of CoD along with other shooters being set in the future.
But if it comes to Wii U or 3DS I might support it.
@kensredemption Is that honestly the best you got? You got to do better then that brother.Pathetic fanboy haha. And this got me rolling around the floor laughing "but an HD remaster of the first Black Ops for the Wii U would be very welcome. Could just be a pet project, if anything at all." I love that you think they would do this for the Wiiu,it's amazing.
If it do thats great, if not im straight with devils third cuz unlike cod it being made by reliable developers who gonna deliver something unique but i would add black ops 3 would be best on wii u out of the consoles if the do the same approach as they did with black ops 2
Black Ops 3 will be coded by Treyarch - the developer responsible for bringing Black Ops 2 and Ghosts to the Wii U
Not technically correct: Ghosts was made by Infinity Ward with some additional input by Treyarch for the Wii U version. They did not make the Wii U version.
I highly doubt this will come to Wii U. Activision also included Nintendo logos early on for Advanced Warfare, but the game never came to the platform. It won't happen. There's no reason for it to come to Wii U.
Maybe Nintendo smartened up and offered them a deal? Financial or they will get a super early build of the next system when it is first available. I doubt it but maybe.
If Treyarch really is going to release Black ops 3 on the Wii U I'll support them, they are the only studio to port COD games to Nintendo consoles, I planned on buying Advanced Warfare for my PS4 but I played it at a few gaming events over here but really wasn't into it.
Crossing my fingers even though I personally won't be getting it.
@MrGawain Really? The ONLY people I know that play COD are under 18!
I have gotten back into Zombies here lately so yes I definently want this, even though we probably wouldn't get the map packs, (which is almost inexcusable nowadays). Finger crossed.
@FragRed
Black Ops 2 did around 300k I think. So not great, but better than some other 3rd party games. Maybe enough to justify a port. I think Treyarch likes their brand awareness to span all platforms for Black Ops
Well I'll buy it if it is heading our way. I could do with a new zombie fix.......I'm not getting my hopes up though after the recent trend of abysmal 3rd party support on the Wii u. I'm conditioned for the worst!!
@BarryDunne
So I was pretty much spot on...
@BarryDunne
I don't wanna know actually lol. Honestly though Watch Dogs deserved to sell better. It's a pretty good game but people just looked for any excuse to skip it they could find. I guess that goes for a lot of games nowadays on Nintendo though. Heard a guy say he was gonna skip Xenoblade X because he didn't like the Japanese style character models, heard another guy say he was gonna skip Fire Emblem 14 cause it has DLC. People should be looking for reasons TO buy a game rather than looking for reasons to NOT buy a game. That's how I see it anyways
it would be a surprise, but is highly doubtful
@BarryDunne
Ya I can as you, but truthfully I'm 250 hours into MH4U ad probably won't be playing anything else until fall- MH is my fave franchise of all time (probably tied with Fire Emblem) and I already know Ima sink 1,000 hours into it before I put it down
Pretty much confirmed with that Nintendo logo but it was pretty obvious with treyarch developing.
@Hero-of-WiiU I'm not too sure that would be the case, back when Black Ops 2 and Ghosts came out DLC didn't really exist for 1st party Wii U titles (NSLU doesn't count as it was also a standalone title). Since then, Mario Kart 8 has got 2 DLC packs, Smash has Mewtwo as well as Lucas and Mii costume DLC, Hyrule Warriors has costumes as well as adventure map and story DLC.
The list continues on so if Treyarch have noticed that then I think we'll get all the DLC if Black Ops 3 exists on Wii U.
Watch it end up being a 3DS game. lol
@Quorthon Treyarch actually did make the Wii U version of Ghosts. Their Wii U team ported it over.
Not interested in this game regardless if it comes to Wii U. I'm done with the Call of Duty franchise as far as new releases go. Far more interested in Rainbow Six Siege and Star Wars Battlefront.
Oh, and if EA screws over Battlefront, they will NEVER hear the end of it. EA and DICE are pretty much at gunpoint from millions of people over the game.
@Azooooz longer than that. Treyarch handled the GameCube port of Big Red One.
With Treyarch handling it, I doubt it'll skipped Wii U as Treyarch has always supported Nintendo system with their games and Black Ops is one of their most significant series, Activision just so happens to slapped the Call of Duty name on it.
@Jetset
Not true actually. We did get a single DLC map for each game. Black Ops 2 got Nuketown 2025 and Ghosts got Free Fall. But yes, we obviously got screwed over on 99% of the DLC, which are of course the 4 big DLC packs every CoD gets.
Hope they do this. Tre arch did a nice job last time.
I think the Black Ops games have sold quite well on Nintendo compared to Modern Warfare etc, plus the user base should be bigger by November, and Treyarch do tend to develop for Wii U so this makes sense to me.
Maybe, they are making it for the next Nintendo console, the NX or whatever will it be called.
Honestly, Advanced Warfare missing the Wii U is a blessing. Game is absolute crap, the worst Call of Duty by a mile.
Black Ops 3 looks to be rather interesting though, as long as they don't have the jetpack and exo suits.
Linked my account, hopefully it will lead somewhere
Looks like Activision wants to take on Splatoon for end of year Best FPS on Wii U- that didn't roll off my tongue as well as I thought it would.
Black ops 2 is the stable of shooters for Nintendo Wii U, if treyarch can work their magic again then this is very welcome shooter for this console alone ~
I loved playing Black Ops 2 on WiiU. If it comes out I'll def buy it.
COD is back baby and thank you Treyarch if its true!
@TwilightAngel You sure talk a lot for a Brony. Don't you have manes to comb?
@kensredemption Combing manes. LMAO! Now that's a first!
