It's easy to be dismissive of Style Savvy / New Style Boutique, with its focus on fashion, designer coffees and neat apartments, but it's a rather fun and entertaining title on the 3DS. The release of the latest entry in Japan has given some life to the country's charts this week, too, though overall sales are still worryingly low.
Girls Mode 3: Kirakira Code is that latest entry in the fashionable series, which also includes some goofy amiibo features and unlocks on the New Nintendo 3DS. It claimed the number one spot in the software charts, though numbers through the rest of the top 20 are disappointingly low. You can see those results below, with lifetime sales in brackets.
- [3DS] Girls Mode 3: Kirakira Code (Nintendo, 04/16/15) – 55,179 (New)
- [PS4] Dying Light (Warner Bros., 04/16/15) – 25,530 (New)
- [3DS] Future Card Buddy Fight: Yuujou no Bakunetsu Fight (FuRyu, 04/16/15) – 16,630 (New)
- [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SCE, 03/19/15) – 12,175 (97,117)
- [PS3] One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (Bandai Namco, 03/26/15) – 6,926 (137,211)
- [PSV] 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku Hen (Bandai Namco, 04/02/15) – 6,542 (143,154)
- [Wii U] Mario Party 10 (Nintendo, 03/12/15) – 5,991 (129,581)
- [PS3] 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Tengoku Hen (Bandai Namco, 04/02/15) – 5,798 (118,433)
- [PS4] Bloodborne (SCE, 03/26/15) – 5,674 (190,631)
- [3DS] Yo-kai Watch 2: Shinuchi (Level-5, 12/14/14) – 5,659 (2,586,851)
- [PSV] Sword Art Online: Lost Song (Bandai Namco, 03/26/15) – 5,532 (177,145)
- [3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire (Pokemon, 11/21/14) – 5,483 (2,598,884)
- [3DS] Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (Nintendo, 04/02/15) – 5,330 (71,167)
- [3DS] Assassination Classroom: Grand Siege on Koro-sensei (Bandai Namco, 03/12/15) – 5,196 (49,827)
- [PS4] Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (From Software, 04/09/15) – 5,134 (25,628)
- [PS3] Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 (Konami, 03/26/15) – 4,960 (88,090)
- [PS4] Saints row IV: Re-Elected (Spike Chunsoft, 04/16/15) – 4,776 (New)
- [PSV] One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (Bandai Namco, 03/26/15) – 4,543 (80,779)
- [Wii U] Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo, 05/29/14) – 4,542 (961,504)
- [3DS] Theatrhythm Dragon Quest (Square Enix, 03/26/15) – 4,079 (104,044)
The sales are even less desirable once you look at hardware numbers. Every single system recorded a drop in comparison to last week, with the New Nintendo 3DS LL (XL) in third place, albeit with the portable's 'family' being number one overall. The Wii U is still down in fourth as the second best selling home console - the results are below with last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 15,419 (17,885)
- PlayStation Vita – 14,568 (17,517)
- New Nintendo 3DS LL – 14,047 (16,955)
- Wii U – 6,324 (6,654)
- New Nintendo 3DS – 5,324 (6,222)
- PlayStation 3 – 4,175 (4,221)
- Nintendo 3DS LL – 1,309 (1,986)
- Nintendo 3DS – 1,144 (1,678)
- PlayStation Vita TV – 491 (511)
- Xbox One – 170 (238)
It's nice to see a 3DS release seizing top spot with a bit of style, though overall this is clearly a quiet spell in the Japanese market.

Been playing Girls Mode 3 on my Japanese n3DS and it's great! Sadly, upon arrival of my copy of Bravely Second, GM3 will be shifted to the side after only a week of play time...
I always find the things that the Japanese gravitate towards too amusing. But they also make the best games, so what can I say.
What is boosting Ps4 and Vita sales lately? I guess they can have a couple weeks at the top. It is weird not seeing the 3ds up there though. People are probably waiting for Nintendo to really show what the new 3ds can do.
Girls Mode is a better name than the Western one.
Currently playing and greatly enjoying the original Style Savvy. I play at least a few minutes every day; have to make sure I can stock all the exclusive items. Very hopeful the third makes its way west.
Well that's an instant buy for me then
...At least the Wii U is beating the 3DS. lol
I'm cheering for MK8 to hit a million in Japan. You can do it!
Putrid all the way around. PS4 and Wii U will both probably get another boost or two at some point but it won't be sustained momentum. Console gaming in Japan is pretty much finished.
New release Girls Mode 3 more than doubling new release Dying Light made me chuckle.
Who says video games are male dominated? (Oh yeah, the other 18 robot pirate fighting games on the list. )
@Windy nope. sony just released a ton of games over their the last few weeks and ninty barely anything. that will chage real soon with dragon quest, bravery default, puzzle dragons, and those two yoki watch games coming out this year.
It must be hard to be an Xbox fan in Japan.
Wow I'm surprised Japan actually enjoys Buddyfight.
The thing that surprises me most about this is that Saints Row IV charted.
It's Golden Week so expect everything to get a big boost next week.
@rjejr Mario Party 2's Pirate Land board confirmed for Mario Party 10 as DLC!
Hoping we'll get a release here, but does it include the male fashion mode like Girls Mode 2? Should I pick up the first 3DS game instead (if I can find it) for fashion fun for all?
@faint Do you mean the Dragon Quest Rhythm game or something else ? (Is the mainline one coming to Wii U ?)
@unrandomsam its some kind of super big expansion for dragon quest x that's getting a retail release for wiiu and wii.
@Grumblevolcano - Joke or not, I guess it's only a matter of time before MP10 gets DLC boards for $4.95 a pop. Not that I care, just saying.
And I can't see your avatar now w/o thinking of that blue yarn Yoshi.
I've never been jealous of a handbag before until now.
Awesome, glad to see Style Savvy doing well.
I'm getting worried that we may not see Style Savvy 3 ever get localized, we had news of a Style Savvy 2 localization shortly after it was even announced in Japan and long before launch.
Now we're already past launch of Style Savvy 3, and they still refuse to comment at all on any possibilities of a localization this time.
Depressing, Style Savvy 2 is the single biggest reason I own a 3DS.
Style Savvy Trendsetters is the SOLE reason I bought a 3DS XL... Nintendo, PLEASE bring Style Savvy 3 here to the USA!!
I'm a big Style Savvy fan. Every new feature of this game makes me want it,like the translating Miis into cute girls... I'll be really disappointed if it doesn't get released in America, especially since we got the first two.
