As sanity returns to the world of Nintendo, with many taking some time off for the Easter weekend, we thought we'd take advantage of the fact that the official Smash Bros. website is no longer creaking under excess traffic and grab some details and pretty images.
This article's in two parts - there's a gallery of the official Mewtwo images, which we enjoy sharing when a new character comes around. We've also had a look over the official DLC details to get a better feel of the pricing and content on offer, following the whirlwind reveal from the Nintendo Direct.
We'll be writing further about this costume DLC - and the broader topic around DLC in general - over the weekend, but below are the basic details of what's on the way on 15th April and beyond.

How do I access the DLC / Redeem on both systems?
In both versions there'll be an eShop / DLC button that takes you to the relevant area to buy extra content.
Though you'll have the option of buying DLC for both versions at once, they won't be integrated in any clever way utilising your Nintendo Network ID. Instead, you'll receive a download code for the other system (Wii U or 3DS) which you then redeem in the alternative version. You'll be able to access this on your digital receipt in the eShop, too.
Mewtwo Gallery
That's this particular splurge of information over. What are your thoughts on Mewtwo and the character outfit DLC?

"Protoman Armor... you have to provide the whistling, though."
I smiled.
Those t-shirts remind me of the now defunct PS Home as something you would get free for playing some random minigame like stepping on scorpions.
I'm w/ the "should be free w/ game/amiibo purchase" crowd for costumes, though I think we're in the minority.
Paying for new fighters is ok. I wonder if the Sony fans will say Nintnedo is ripping off Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal w/ that move.
Yesssssssss Dunban!
I like the prices, at least Mewtwo isn't like $20 as I could imagine other publishers doing.
I'm definetly buying Mewtwo and Lukas. Those costumes are pricy though and I don't even use Mii fighters at all. Guess I'll pass on these.
@Monado_III You imagined wrong this is like standard pricing.
Getting Mewtwo just because he'll be free through club Nintendo, probably pass on Lucas if the pricing is the same Mewtwo. Not interested in costumes. For me, the most interesting part of this is the way the cross-buy downloads are being handled. Its disappointing that they still can't or won't link these purchases through the NNID. Download code just seems so archaic at this point. They gotta get their online store/ account system brought into this century...
Probably only get X and protoman on the Wii U. I regret buying the 3DS version.
@daveh30
There's a glitch if you buy on the Wii U version I think since all NNId on the Wii U will get their 3DS versions free that's why they settled with download codes.
It happened on OliOli crossbuy. I think I saw some upcoming crossbuy titles where it'll only be crossbuy when you buy on the 3DS since it's only linked to one NNID.
@Jazzer94 This is standard pricing - But they usually also provide a goty / complete etc version not much later which I am 99.9% sure Nintendo won't.
(Leaving this even worse than the worst Capcom examples it seeks to emulate).
Pretty sure Lucas would be the same price as Mewtwo, welp I'm getting everything, managed to make the Dunban mii from the direct and got a Protoman mii ready for their outfits, just as excited with the outfits as the characters.
Guess they made Dunban as a mii since he is apart of Shulks final smash, Protoman is there just so you can have him without making a full character, finally X would of been nice for a alt costume.
Though the costumes are cool I won't be buying all of them. $9.20 for all the costumes is kinda ridicolous. I'm also confused why the bundle overall cost the same as buying them all seperatly.
Those X and a Protoman costumes are awesome, and so is the Link one. Can't wait!
Why is there no (cheaper) season pass bundle like Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors?
Character DLC: Great!
Costume DLC: Eh... It's not inherently bad, but it would have been nice to be able to get these costumes through playing rather than paying for them directly. But oh well.
Wow. I thought all of Wave 1 costed the $1.15 in a bundle, but the $9.20 seems stretchy.
...then again, I'm not really interested in the animal costumes and I'm meh on the Zelda ones. I don't know about Dunban though, haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles. The ones I'm seemingly getting are the Smash T-shirts and the Mega Mans

@Operative I agree.
Getting Mewtwo for free and since I hate Miis I don't care about the costumes. I would rather have new costumes for the normal fighters, as in HW. Or to have the option of unlocking some via amiibo. Don't think I will get Lucas either.
I got both smash bros. games on release date but I forgot to register them on club nintendo 😭
The fighters I'll get, the costumes....I don't know, maybe? Seems a bit much for just cosmetics when you can't even use the miis online
I'll be getting lucas, but II'm not to sure about the mii costumes. Maybe if the price drops.
I'm pretty disappointed if this is Nintendo's route for dlc. I loved what they did with Mario Kart, essentially doubling the game for $12 was amazing. No way am I paying so much for costumes. If you buy the costume pack for both systems, Mewtwo and Lucas, that's nearly $20. For that price, I'm going to need more characters and a whole mess of new levels.
So for an extra dollar, you get a download code for the other version?
...I'm guessing people are going to be selling download codes on eBay thanks to the "both versions" discount.
I could spend $4 on a 3DS Mewtwo, or I could spend $2.50 by buying both, and then selling the WiiU version for $2.50 on eBay, saving both parties $1.50 total.
It might look like chump change, but it's still interesting.
(Mostly I'm curious about the prices that the Club Nintendo codes will go for, a week or two early.)
The X and Protoman costumes are awesome, but I think I would have preferred them to be alt costumes for the actual Mega Man character rather than for the Miis.
That should be the next round of DLC: alt costumes for the real characters. I'm thinking Wolf O'Donnell, Dr. Luigi, Slippy/Peppy, any number of Fire Emblem favorites (Roy comes to mind), Toon Ganondorf, Tetra (as an alt for Toon Link), Wooly Yoshi, Yarn Kirby, Fusion Suit Samus, and I'm sure there are more good ideas.
@earthboundlink Outset Island Toon Link I would buy in an instant.
I fail to see the purpose of extra Mii costumes when you can't show them off against randoms, and there still aren't open lobbies with options either.
Also I personally find veterans as DLC disappointing. Rather than getting something new as DLC, you're getting what you've already had before and arguably should have come with the rest of the game.
I don't use a Mii Fighter too often, so I'll probably pass on these. I'll definitely purchase Lucas, though.
I thought that proto man costume was Viewtiful Joe for a second. Hahaha
I'm really hyped for Mewtwo and Lucas I don't mind forking over a little cash for them, and the prospect of King K. Rool finally being in the game (at least if people vote like me) is very exciting and I'm religiously going to keep some eShop credit aside for him... Hopefully... Maybe?
I'm not fussed about costumes might pick up Proto-Man but that's it for now. Club Nintendo Mewtwo's release day is pure hype for me as its the same day my friends and I are having a movie marathon so it works out nicely for the designated 8 player smash breaks inbetween.
I'm getting Mewtwo codes already, so I'll pick up Lucas but that's all. I'm not a big fan of the Mii Fighters, so it's not worth the cost to me.
Although if one was a Viewtiful Joe costume like FilmerNgamerR suggested, I'd grab that one in a heartbeat.
Born in a world of strife!
Against the odds,
we choose to fight!
Blossom Dance!
W00T Dunban costumes! But he is wielding the sword in his right hand! Blasphemy! (He uses his left arm throughout the game)
Plus DLC poll! I can't wait for Isaac time
Ok so, $16 bucks I'll be spending, aaaand, my Melee main man Mewtwo returns and lookin' good! Wallet, is ready.
@LasermasterA Good point, although they'd have to add a left-handed Mii option to pull it off. He does use his left hand in Shulk's Final Smash.
Will get all the costumes and Lucas once their out. The costumes are looking cool =)
I'll buy all the character and stage dlc, but mii costumes? Pass. I never use them anyway. Plus I think having a link costume for your mii is pretty redundant, when you can just simply play as the real link anyway. Oh well. If they make good costume dlc for the actual characters, then I'll bite.
The only mii costume that really caught my eye was the dunban, was pretty decent.
I really do hope they change Lucas's Final Smash, anyways I also hope Mewtwo moves like he does in Melee. You know, his "walking animation" is simply him hovering forward with his arms crossed. xp
Mewtwo, the Cat Mii costumes and the Monkey Mii Costumes are by far the coolest. I SOOOOOOOO wish we could play our Mii's online
@CAM290 Put people on your friends list with the game! problem solved.
@rjejr No worries, Sony ripped off Nintendo's idea for a mascot fighting game, only they forgot to make it any good.
The Dunban costume is cool since it resembles my own hair, but not really interested otherwise. I'm more interested in the Majora's Mask costume because it's just bad@$$ plus it will match my new 3ds (although I only play smash on Wii-U but whatever). To me, Smash just doesn't translate well as a handheld title. I was thinking of giving my free 3DS MewTwo unlock code away at NintendoAge (there's no PM system here at Nlife, sorry). I don't own the Smash Bros 3DS but was able to redeem a code I found in a used retail box at a second-hand game store. Don't judge me, some of you would do the same.
Way too much paid DLC for a Nintendo game. They were always good with their DLC; they either had free DLC or DLC with great value. £3.60 for one fighter is NOT good value. At this rate, you will be forced to pay so you can keep up with the meta. Smash is gonna become p2w.
Geeze, almost 10 bucks for costumes? Oh well. I have to get at least Dunban and Majoras Mask
@sleepinglion - "only they forgot to make it any good."
Yeah, bought it on PSN for $5 during a sale. We got our money's worth out of it for that price, but just barely.
@seb5049
I agree that Mii costumes are too much, hopefully those go on sale or something. Or maybe a patch to increase amiibo functionality so we can get those costumes through that?
4.00$ is a pretty standard price for new characters in most fighting games. And it only becomes p2w if the DLC characters are significantly stronger than the current lineup and I don't think that will be the case. Sm4sh has shown so far to be pretty balanced (Diddy Kong aside) and Lucas and Mewtwo were never particularly great characters.
I appreciate that they let you buy for both for a reduced price. I'd really like Lucas and Majora's Mask.
