As some of you may have been aware, Reggie Fils-Aime celebrated his 54th birthday today on 25th March, so let's take a moment to remember his best theatrics. Who could forget Reggie’s historical E3 2003 debut? When the then unknown President got up on stage for the first time, he introduced himself to the world with the line “My name is Reggie. I’m about kickin’ ass, I’m about takin’ names and we’re about making games!” This set the precedent for what would be a long history of antics that would propel him to fame among gamers everywhere.
The real moment that secured his status as a legend occurred during the E3 2007 presentation, when Reggie demonstrated the Wii Fit Balance Board and spoke the immortal words, “My body is ready”. Interestingly enough, this phrase really didn’t go viral until a few years ago, though now one can hardly find any corner of the internet where it isn’t quoted or referenced. Truly, this man and his popularity among gamers has achieved a marketing and viral effect that many big-shot entrepreneurs chase in vain for their entire lives. To celebrate this much beloved figure in Nintendo’s history, we compiled a few videos and pictures that captured some of the man’s best moments:
Here’s to many more for good ol’ Reggie. What are your favorite memories of the President of Nintendo of America? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Reggie you dirty liar. Did he have enough air to breathe to blow out his candles because we don't?
He looks damn good for his age, too.
Happy Birthday Reggie!
Funny enough I watched "My body is ready" again yesterday just for laughs without knowing it was his birthday. XD
He has been a remarkable person for the company, has always been happy and enthusiastic and we need more representatives like him in the industry.
@Steel76 Also he wasn't actually president when he first debuted. He was promoted later.
@Inkling

Our bodies are ready Reggie! Happy Birthday
Happy birthday Reggie. Thanks for being there

Happy Birthday, Reggie! 😄
My favorite memory of Reggie is his dedication to the Virtual Console service... Oh wait...
Happy birthday Reggie!
What a character
Happy Birthday Reggie! Would love to see a Reggie amiibo. It would possibly be the most collectible yet.
Happy Birthday Reggie! Nintendo is the only games company that manages to make their company executives truly loved by its fans- I mean Satoru Iwata, Shigeru Miyamoto, Reggie, the late Mr Yamauchi and Mr Yokoi have all been absolute LEGENDS in the gaming community. I have particularly fond memories of N64 magazine comically portraying Mr Yamauchi as being an evil super villain with death ray vision and a heart of ice- just purely based on his tendency to say little in public but continually set the standard of video gaming time and time again.
Damn, I love Nintendo.
@Nico07 I upvote this x a billion infinity.
He sold Rare to Microsoft.
Despite being President of NOA and dealing with the multi-sided fans, He look good for his age, better than the US President who is a year younger (too much stress).
Happy Birthday Reggie
REGGINATOR RESPECT!
My Reggie is body.
Happy Birthday Reggie!
@Quorthon He did no such thing. Nintendo was the majority shareholder (something like 49%) but didn't own the majority of the company. When Microsoft bought the remaining shares, Nintendo didn't renew their contract. Rare sold itself, it wasn't a division of Nintendo for Reggie to sell. And by that point they weren't largely doing anything great for Nintendo. It would be great though if they would sell back the Banjo Kazooie franchise to Nintendo.
To me the best thing about the deal was when Microsoft realized they hadn't bought Donkey Kong. Epic.
@Nico07 Hate to burst your bubble but it didn't happen quite like that. The deal that was put on paper VERY clearly described all the what's and what's nots and the relevant IP's, so "Microsoft" never made that mistake.
What happened was that when a couple of not-so-clued-in executives (that probably never even played a video game in their lives) visited the Rare office, they saw either a statue or a cardboard display of Donkey Kong during the tour around the place and they asked if that character was included in the deal. Rare staff (while being quite amused by it) quickly corrected that misunderstanding right then and there.
Simply a mistake made by some dumb-@ss executives is all...
@Nico07
Nintendo did not just "not renew" a contract, they actively sold that controlling stake in Rare to Microsoft, and MS then bought the rest from the other shareholders (namely, the Stamper Bros), and that was under Reggie.
Nintendo under Reggie actually undid a lot of deals and partnerships that Howard Lincoln and Minoru Arakwa had built. Reggie and NoA decided that Rare only making one game a year or so was "not enough" is absurd when you think about them adding Retro to 1st party status--when since 2001, Retro has made only 5 games--two of them to clone games made by Rare.
@joey302 I second that. But nonetheless, H.B to Reggie.
@Quorthon Not renewing their contract they did yes sell their shares when they realized that Microsoft sought to purchase Rare. But back to the Microsoft executives, they are the ones who purchased Rare. So despite having assets named out in the agreement available to them, they likely had no clue what they were actually buying because they are not gamers.
Long live Reggie!
@Nico07
By that logic, Nintendo had no idea what they were selling.
One executive that doesn't know the details of which brands were owned by Rare does not mean everyone at Microsoft thought that way. That's a completely absurd thing to say. And the articles referencing this only ever stated it was a mistake by one man. No doubt, Microsoft's gaming division knew exactly what they were getting. No one is going to make a $300+ million dollar deal without knowing that. Maybe you would, since you seem to think they did, but I highly doubt anyone at Microsoft who worked that deal was so foolish.
Just because Microsoft has lots of executives does not mean all executives are privy to every deal the company makes. The guys overseeing Windows had no reason to be involved in the gaming deals. That's like assuming that just because you have a security clearance in the military, you are privy to all classified information. Sorry, no. That's not how reality works. Not everyone has a need to know, and I've never been to Area 51.
COME ON, REGGIE! GIVE US MOTHER 3!
gets toasted by Fils-a-mech
@Quorthon @Nico07 Reggie wasn't really in power yet when the Rare deals were being made and finalized. Reggie might have signed off on the deal (or not, who knows, nondisclosure agreements), but he holds little or no responsibility for the Rare deal's details. There is probably some behind the scenes feud we never got to hear about, pertaining to why Rare was sold off when the opportunity was presented.
Also, many of the partnerships in question built by Lincoln and Arakawa had kind of moved away or evaporated by the time Reggie took the wheel... He wasn't responsible for the N64 and GCN losing developer and publisher deals left and right. If anything, we saw a resurgance of deals with the emergence of the DS and Wii. I think those allegations are a bit unfairly harsh. There are blunders Reggie has made, but almost every deal made until the DS/Wii years was not among them, and certainly the Rare deal was not among them.
@Quorthon RARE by that point was simply no longer the same company that brought the truly great games to Nintendo hardware. Many of the team had already left or were in the process of leaving. RARE existed in name only. It's like all these people asking for another Metroid Prime from Retro, without considering that just because it is still called Retro Studios does not make it the same company from more than a decade ago- staff changes, company restructuring etc.
Screw RARE. They were dead before Microsoft took delivery of them.
@Quorthon Fact check first. Microsoft bought Rare in 2002, one year before Reggie even joined Nintendo. Also, Microsoft owned 51% of Rare after some key staff sold their shares. Nintendo had to sell them or else have some sort of deal with Microsoft.
I'm very impressed will Reggie's skills in spin. He'll make anything a good story by focusing exclusively on the positive. He regularly throws interviewers for a loop by refusing to talk about the competition or acknowledge set-backs as being of any importance. On top of all this, he always manages to look like he's having a complete blast representing Mario & Co.
