A little later than normal courtesy of a few Goombas causing havoc with our servers, we have the Nintendo Download update details for North America. This week brings some interesting options across both Wii U and 3DS, with both systems having major retail releases and some anticipated download-only games. Let's get to it.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update earlier this week? Dry those eyes, the details are all right here.
Wii U eShop
Elliot Quest (PlayEveryWare, $12.99) - Nintendo has been keen to promote this retro-styled adventure, which features an open world, five dungeons, 16 'unique bosses' and multiple endings. It certainly looks promising, with a core concept being a storyline that seems surprisingly dark - we'll let you know what we think of this in a review.
PENTAPUZZLE (RCMADIAX, $4.49) - This latest release from the prolific Wii U eShop developer is a collection of 70 stages in which you rearrange shapes to fill pre-designated areas, with a range of difficulty levels to test your visualisation puzzle-solving abilities. We'll review this soon.
Super Destronaut (Petite Games, $1.99) - This looks like a homage to Space Invaders, albeit with modern touches and a multiplayer mode to accompany the score chasing. We'll blast some aliens for a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
KLONOA 2: Dream Champ Tournament (Bandai Namco, $6.99) - The latest Game Boy Advance arrival on the Wii U, this follows the style of previous portable Klonoa entries; it's a platformer with the rather unique Wind Bullet attack. There are five worlds and some interesting bosses promised here, and we'll see whether its dreamy gaming or a nightmare in our review.
Wii U Retail Download
Mario Party 10 (Nintendo, $49.99) - The latest entry in Nintendo's mini-game series that's been ever-present since the N64 era, this introduces amiibo and GamePad asynchronous play into proceedings. With Bowser playing a more prominent role as the villain and some fresh mini-games on offer this aims to bring the party franchise into the current generation with a bang; we thought it was relatively successful in these goals, giving it a reasonable recommendation in our Mario Party 10 review. Available from 20th March.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Paper Monsters Recut (Mobot Studios, $5.99 until 2nd April, normally $7.99)
Turtle Tale (Saturnine Games, $1.99 until 2nd April, normally $2.99)
Wii U eShop Permanent Discount
GetClose: A Game for RIVALS (Wombat Source, $2.99, was $4.99)
3DS eShop
Iron Combat: War in the Air (Amzy, $6.99) - As the name suggests this is focused on air battles, seemingly transitioning from dog-fights to more focused boss encounters - it looks like a mix of Ace Combat and Liberation Maiden to us. With a Story mode and Free Play on offer this will also accumulate currency for upgrades, so it certainly sounds promising; we'll take to the skies for a review.
Navy Commander (Bigben Interactive, $10) - Essentially Battleships on 3DS, but with extra items, this offers local multiplayer through sharing a system or Download Play, along with the option for single player. We'll try to sink all the battleships in our review.
3DS Retail Download
Fossil Fighters: Frontier (Nintendo, $29.99) - The latest retail 3DS title published by Nintendo, this follows up on DS predecessor in which you explore and uncover fossils; these become your dinosaurs with which to battle. "Like Pokemon but with dinosaurs", as our editorial director Damien McFerran puts it, this also has local and online battles for up to six players. We'll bring you a review soon. Available from 20th March.

NOTHING!
fossil fighters for me, cant wait till its downloaded!
KLONOA!!!!!!
Because your fans would totally rather have some obscure virtual console game they've never heard of than Metroid: Zero Mission or Kirby's Return to Dreamland. NoA logic. NO MONEY FROM ME AGAIN THIS WEEK!
Still waiting for SmileBASIC...

Elliot Quest looks cool though.
Does anyone know when Starwhal will be available on WiiU? I keep hoping to see it each Thursday...
Considering picking up Fossil Fighters tomorrow.
Boo, no Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney 3DS themes : (
Gots me some Xeodrifter.
I have 9 dollars but I'm saving it for fire emblem sacred stones
Come to EU Klonoa!
Xenodrifter for sure. I think I can enjoy Moon with my New 3DS
Eh, was planning on using the $10 I have in my eShop account towards the Hyrule Warriors DLC at some point anyways.
The Mario Party 10 bundle arrives on my doorstep tomorrow, along with my Toads… Klonoa has been a favorite of mine since the very first game. This one has a pretty solid group of positive reviews from it's original launch, so I think I'll give it a go.
No love for Klonoa?
Nothing for me cause I'm still broke and I've finally fulfilled my ONLY Platinum status for Club Nintendo.
I think my son is spending the last of his money he saved on Mario Party 10, but nothing for me......backlog, backlog, backlog.
I do have my eyes on Elliot Quest though.
@grumblebuzzz Hey, Klonoa needs all the love and attention he can get!
@holygeez03 They only said Spring I think. No definite date yet though
@grumblebuzzz you've never heard of Klonoa? It's not that obscure.
KLONOA 2 shifts to my wish list (as did part 1), as will Elliot Quest until I either see a strong review, or I clear out some of my backlog. Other than that, looks like my wallet can breath easy this week.
Might get MP10 retail later, but for now, nothing.
50% off Xeodrifter already?? Count me in!
That's one of those games that I absolutely would have paid the full $10 for but didn't because I simply had (and still have) way too big of a backlog but I know I'm going to want to play it whenever I can finally get around to it so for that price so I'll absolutely pick it up now.
I'm still on the fence about Moon Chronicles since FPS games tend to be hit or miss for me but I'm still considering that too.
Elliot Quest also looks good but unfortunately is probably going to fall in the same scenario that Xeodrifter fell in. I feel I'm going to want to play it eventually but it's hard to justify buying it right now with the big backlog. If there's ever a sale, that's one of those ones I would jump on immediately though. I'll still keep an eye out for the Nintendo Life review on it to make sure there's no surprises about it not being good but I get the feeling it's quite good from what I've seen.
Elliot Quest has been getting positive reviews. I'll wait for N-life's before I buy it though
@Nintendolife: No mention of the final set of FFT tracks? Other than that, nothing.
Might pick up a 3ds Renegade Kid sale. These are teh final days to get more Club Nintendo points people!
I bought Xeodrifter, and I'll get Klonoa once I have less games to play. A little disappointed we still don't have Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, but it'll come eventually.
Nope.
Klonoa! The first one was the definition of an under appreciated gem, definitely will be picking that up.
Would buy Xeodrifter again if I could, really enjoyed playing through it.
Elliot quest looks like fun, but I'm gonna grab Xeodrifter while it's on sale.
@grumblebuzzz
I swore if we ever got DKC trilogy I'd never complain again. Which was probably a lie, but I figure I can go at least a few months before dissatisfaction starts settling in.
I am joining the "nothing this week" crowd for this update.
I have 3D Outrun and HW to keep me busy.
There hasn't been anything even mildly interesting on the 3DS in months it seems like.
I was wondering why Nintendo Life had been down for so long. I kept checking the site to see today's eShop update, and the site would never load.
At any rate, nothing for me this week.
I'm playing nothing but Fire Emblem whenever I have free time whether it be Awakening, Blazing Sword, or Sacred Stones so nothing for me this week. Actually, I haven't bought any new games in a while. I've only been checking these updates out of curiosity before going back to Fire Emblem.
Small purchase for me, but I'm totally buying the Code Name STEAM theme. I cannot stress enough how much fun I'm having with that game.
Does it surprise anyone by Nintendo of America's poor game chooses for there wii u eshop yet again this week. Nothing for me yet again for this week, NOA my wallet thanks you.
Picking up Xeodrifter to bring my RK collection up to date, and have Mario Party 10 w/ Mario Amiibo pre-ordered for tomorrow.
Would get Iron Combat, but I already have the JP version.
Wow...
It's super sad that the only thing I'm looking forward to is the Toad Treasure Tracker update that allows amiibo support.
Virtual Console, wake up! You were a hard worker for the Wii. But now? Oh. Oh, sadness.
Still no Metroid Zero Mission for NA? That makes no sense since Europe has it now.
Purchased the Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars theme. If I were to get Fossil Fighters Frontier, it'd be retail/physical, but I'm waiting for reviews before I say yes/no.
@grumblebuzzz klonoa was actually a big franchise for namco that has spaned several generations of hardware most recently on the wii. just becuse you don't know it doesn't make it obscure. man i wish you guys would play something othet than nintendo games sometimes.
@sleepinglion I forgot about that update, guess it doesn't really help that Toad amiibo will more than likely be rare hence making the update pointless.
Elliot's Quest looks impressive. I am waiting for a review.
Elliot Quest for me. It's the first e-Shop game of the year that caught my attention in a big way.
EDIT: Make that Wii U e-Shop, since Gunman Clive 2 was released this year.
There is a Klonoa 2 for GBA?! O.O
I want it in Europe not next week, not now, but yesterday at the latest! DX
Elliot Quest has been pretty sweet but if I had not had the feather item I might have been stuck after a save stone. I was trying to enter everywhere on the map and one section you need to get by with something I don't have yet. Instead of putting me back where I entered the map I was now in the upper part of the map which I guess you don't get to later.
Just to e safe try to always have a feather on hsnd. You get them in the first village.
I'll snag Klonoa. It seems supporting vc on 3ds&wiiu might be stretching noa vc department resources?Dk and outrun where great, but does this mean where back to the normal swing of things?
Whoa... Worst download ever?
YES.
I definitely want to get my hands on Fossil Fighters: Frontier at some point, as I'm still making my way through the first two games and like them a lot. Can't buy it myself right now, though it's an easy recommendation for Pokemon and other monster arena fans looking for something a little different.
I need to read a review for Elliot Quest.
@faint: It apparently isn't that well-known considering several commenters have said, "There's a Klonoa 2??!!" so please don't try to act like I'm abnormal because I have never heard of this franchise. Also with 9 whopping votes, it doesn't seem like it's gonna be a big money maker for Nintendo of America like, oh, say a Metroid game and a Kirby game that have already been released in Europe would be. I am more so complaining about NoA's poor virtual console strategy than Klonoa 2 itself.
@BakaKnight It's another one of those games that was only available in Japan and NA originally so if it comes to EU Wii U VC then Europe will be able to experience it for the first time (unless they imported the GBA cart from NA given that handhelds were region-free back in the 2000s).
Wake me up when NoA actually decides to put Metroid: Zero Mission on the eShop.
Played Elliot Quest for 3 hours straight. No regrets.
KLONOA 2: DREAM CHAMP TOURNAMENT!!!! KLONOA 2: DREAM CHAMP TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much Namco and Nintendo!
Thank you as usual too Too Thomas.
I MUST work really hard!
@faint Did you Namco planned to re-release Klonoa 2: Lunatea`s Veil for the Nintendo Wii but due to lack of sales for Klonoa, The Sony PlayStation 2 sequel was not re-released for the Nintendo Wii.
Every fan in North America should be grateful!
But not everyone can be kept pleased constantly.
Definitely waiting on a review for Fossil Fighters but even if was simply an amazing game I still would hold off on getting it because I have some catching up to do before I get any new games.
@BakaKnight I want it 10 years ago! but did I even know it existed then no!
Indeed I knew not of it`s existence. It is the only title in the series I do not own (excluding the original) I own the Nintendo Wii re-release.
@SpykeXD Sorry for being late! darn it for being late! @outburst It will be re-released before you even know it! Here is hoping for Klonoa 3!!!
@zipmon Enjoy it! Once I have earned myself a Nintendo Wii U through hard work (study and working) I will too! KLONOA 2: DREAM CHAMP TOURNAMENT!!!!
Ok. When am i gonna get a Metroid theme for my 3DS? And i cant believe (and I've been looking) that I'm the 1st to ask this.
No 3ds virtual console this week I know you have more games made by Nintendo to put on there what is taking so long or you just waiting on square and the 3rd parties to give you more to put on there
@andrew20 Right? What happened to square support after the ds? I own several ff remakes on my phone and have yet to see any new or old square enix titles on Nintendo platforms.
I'll vote up, Elliot Quest. It really got my attention.
@James1993 I'll be grateful when we get games like DK returns, Kirby returns to dreamland, Golden Sun 2 and Metroid Zero Mission. Sadly we won't have all those for at least another 2-3 months.
@Tsusasi Lucky, My Mario Party Bundle and Toad Amiibo arrive on Monday
@ikki5 I am very grateful.
I recommend you download Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament now!
Time for me to go to sleep good night!
No Love for Iron Combat?? Guess I'll take the leap for 6 bucks!
What a joke.
Worst week ever.
Nothing. Like always...
Nice week. Elliot Quest and Xeodrifter for me.
Another suck ass week from the idiots at NOA!! Makes sense that they're going to develop for smart phones being as they can't seem to get their crap together for their own systems!! The virtual console continues to be a sad missed opportunity!! Oh my god the classics that are missing!!! Jesus I'm so numb from complaining about this for the last 1 1/2 years!! And namco would it of killed you to throw gba namco museum up with Klonoa this week being the rest of the world has had it already for 6 months????
My wife and I want Ms pac- man!!! What the Sam hell is wrong with these companies???
😡😡😡😡 idiots!! No $$$ from me this week! Again!! Elliot quest has my attention though. But nonetheless I'm still pissed!!
while I am a Klonoa fan, I really don't understand why they don't hurry up and release zero mission in NA. It's a high demand game! why on earth does it take so long for them to release it here? are they hoping people keep buying NES version?
I do hope with all the random klonoa love, that we get the wii version on wii U, or maybe namco makes a port of the PS2 version for wii U to bolster the wii U library a little. Wii U could use more namco games that aren't based on the pac man cartoon.
@James1993 Awesome!! Good luck and hope you can enjoy it soon! =D
also, how on earth can bigben interactive think they can sell battleship for $10? it's like a days worth of dev! if anything, it's a $1 game
Zelda II + Kid Icarus + Cave Story = Elliot Quest.
I recommend people try klonoa. try the wii version, or get it on PSN. the first one is fun, but pathetically easy for anyone accustomed to platforming. they also have the first GBA game on vc.give it a shot, might be a new series for you to get into!
Super Destronaut and Iron Combat. It's hard to pass up a shmup and something that is described as "a mix of Ace Combat and Liberation Maiden".
@mystman12 Same here. According to http://petitcomputer.wikia.com/wiki/SmileBASIC_%28Petit_Computer_3%29, NA's and EU's release dates are "Spring 2015", so today would've been early.
No update for Citizens of Earth. bummer.
Waiting on a review for Elliot Quest.
Since some of us are writing what we'll download in caps:
ELLIOT QUEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KLONOA!!! I actually liked the second game a lot more than the first. I'll probably pick up that and Battle Network 1 & 2 with my next card.
But for now: Elliot Quest!!!
I'm a sucker for games like Elliot Quest. Glad I didn't wait for the review.
No Metroid Zero Mission again. ..
wonder if mass tweeting at NoA will get them to release zero mission?
@khaosklub Highly doubtful
Nothing for me this week. Is the Toad's Treasure Tracker update live yet?
Downloaded. Freakking sweet; I totally didn't just max out my life counter on all the free Amiibo shrooms... Can't wait until Gamestop opens so I can claim my Toad preorder.
still no sega 3d discounts like EU got? what a load.
was not expecting Klonoa, especially not Klonoa 2. For a moment I thought it was a re-release of the wii remake for the first game.
Xeodrifter for Europe please.
What will I be downloading? Most of the less than $1 games on PlayStation Network. Sorry Nintendo.
did anyone get conception 2 that is on sale?
Just got the original KLONOA on PSN for less than a dollar on their flash sale. Finally got Xeodrifter though! Was waiting on a sale! Though, I'm still mainly playing MH4U.
