In all seriousness, it wouldn't be surprising if this update closes the browser-based loophole used for loading Pokémon and also loading Game Boy Color ROMS on the system; at present we're not seeing complaints along these lines on the relevant forums, but we'll keep an eye on progress.
It's a very quick update, so little is lost in exchange for stability - unless you're using a naughty exploit exploit, potentially.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Wii and DS combined sold 250m hardware and 2b software and were so open to homebrewing. Not saying, just saying.

Stability... I don't think I've ever seen my 3DS crash or anything. My Wii U crashed once while playing Wonderful 101 (download version), but I own 2 3DS systems (one for me, one for my kids) and they never ever crashed.
I'm happy that they support the stability function in the new 3ds. Not only super stable 3d but also super stable firmware.
edit- correction made... It breaks the GW multi (blah blah, lol)

To be fair, as much as its downplayed on here, these constant updates are quite important.
Other console manufacturers like Sony pretty much neglect their systems and only bring out FW updates when there is a "new, exciting feature" on board.
The end result is a pretty crappy OS overall.
It was the case with the PSP and its still the case with the Vita (TV)
Also, "stability" patches regardig OS updates mostly mean preparing a system for future updates, to improve the stability of their implementation.
And since this one didnt fix known explits, its more then likely that its a mere companion update.
Can someone confirm did they fix now fast and efficiently the Gameboy Color "bug" that some awesome hackers found out last week?
The one which enabled you to run pretty much any GBC game rom through any virtual console GBC title.
@Einherjar I wholeheartedly agree, don't take my regular jesting at the expense of these updates for complacency on my part Sometimes I just try to amuse myself and, hopefully, others.
Since last two updates (9.3 and 9.4) i found out that all game icons loading much slower than before.

Did this update close the browser-based loophole used for loading Game Boy & Game Boy Color ROMS on the system?
From what I've read on it, for New 3DS owners it adds the basis for loading n3DS-specific binaries in games (read: n3DS-enhanced games like MM3D), for normal 3DS owners it doesn't add that. Given that the browser wasn't updated, I think that the loophole still exists.
So Majora's Mask 3D does actually have n3DS specific code, rather than simple Circle Pad Pro support?
Hopefully the Pokemon exploit has had its day. I wonder traded during the week and got a VGC legal, CB, 6IV shiny Ditto. Well that's nice and all but I'm still not a fan of cheating. Down with that sort of thing!

It also crashed once—years ago—but I wasn't very worried, 'cause I was bored with it at the time (I'm glad it came back on!)

I don't know about that. Vita's OS barely ever gets updated, but it's still far better than 3DS's (and Wii U's). It's smoother and more stable (don't know anything about the Vita TV's issues, as I only have a Slim). Android is in a similar boat if you're using stock Android. Only a few updates per year, but still far better than what we have on 3DS and Wii U which both get constant updates.
Don't worry folks. If the current "stability" update left some security holes unplugged, I'm sure the next one will plug all remaining holes. Butt leave it to the hackers to poke new holes...

To be fair, that exploit is kinda illegal. Free roms are a no no for almost all game companies, so it would be fair to remove it. I not on Nintendo side that much either, there is no reason why gen 1 or 2 is not on the virtual console. Don't give me that link cable crap because that could easily be replace with online trading or local wireless trading.

@AVahne because Sony doesn't care about the Vita any more, why waist effort for a system that can't compete with its rival. Sony refocused effort on the PS4 and are looking to play hard in the game market, they are just waiting for a game to be made for it Kappa

In the west perhaps, but in Japan Sony still seems to maintain some level of care for their lovely little handheld. Over there it's mildly successful and has stable sales numbers despite not selling as much as 3DS (similar to PSP vs DS), while also getting A LOT of minor and major third party support.
Besides, at least they do still do major updates every now and then when absolutely needed. Despite saying they were decreasing first party game efforts, they still updated the OS with themes at around the same time the 3DS got its theme update (found it interesting that both my handhelds got themes at the same time, Nintendo and Sony must have planned something to have a little fun).
Speaking of stability, how many people managed to get into Club Nintendo and get any kind of order in? =_=

@Einherjar I cannot think of any update that has resulted in better performance (I can think of many that have resulted in worse performance). Something becoming slower is making it objectively worse. (Rebooting from a cold boot which I do when my 3DS is in my pocket because in standby it tends to dislodge the cart and have that black screen with white writing now takes ages longer than it used to).
It is an absolute joke it works so badly compared to the DSi (i.e time to start a game).
@unrandomsam For me, the only thing that is slower than at launch 2011 is the Camera App, but that's because I have over 1000 photos on a 32GB SD card...

Of cours ethe DSi boots much faster, its basically featureless itself.
The more games you have on your 3DS, the longer it takes to boot.
Thats not the fault of the OS, its the natural cause of the system getting all the necessary informations from each game, like title, SD allocation, folder structure, icon, sounds etc.
And like @PlywoodStick there arent really any applications that take that much longer to boot.
The only game that takes ages to boot is Smash, which basically writes as much of itself into the systems RAM as it possibly can (thus, disabling overlay apps like miiverse and the web browser)
But if youre talking about about dislodging carts (which i dont have any problems with), maybe your system is just broken.

There isnt really anything that could be made worse through updates really.
They could have tinkered with the systems accesstimes etc, but as of yet, the system regularly loses features instead of gaining any.
The Vita TV has seen a launch update and thats it. As of now, the most basic titles, supported in the US and Japan still wont work in Europe.
Worse, not even the PSP library is fully supported.
With VIta titles, i know where that is comming from. Touchscreen controlls, gyrometer etc.
But PSP games ? Come on. Its a joke that not all of them are supported by the Vita itself. Further cutting the compatibility list without any rime or reason does not scream "properly supportet and developed OS" to me.
And i really dont see any problems with any OS update on a Nintendo system at all. Never had any issues whatsoever, where i had plenty with Sony systems, from the PSP up to the PS4.
Their OSs are just junk data that barely resemble working programs...

It's obvious that we'll never agree about this point, so let's just leave it at that. I'll never understand what kind of bad experiences you've had with Sony console OSes (only issue I had with the Vita's OS is the memory card unmounting itself a few times last year while in sleep mode) and I doubt you'll know the sheer amount of issues I've had with Nintendo's console OSes. To me, Vita's fine, while the 3DS is even worse than a trainwreck.

My PSP-1000 has worked fairly well for me... Ancient antenna notwithstanding.
Let me tell you though, I was excited to find out that my PS1 copy of FF7 worked without a hitch when it's files were transferred to the PSP! My disc 1 was ruined years ago due to Gameshark code meddling with quick AP maxing and putting Sephiroth and Chocobo (more like invisible nothing) into my party... Somewhere along the way, the Gameshark altered crucial game loading data from the disc (even though it's not physically damaged), causing the cinematic sequences to heavily lag, while playing on either a PS1 or PS2. The issue even prevents loading past the planetarium scene during the first arrival at Cosmo Canyon!
Yet, the PSP has no problems using the exact same files! And all without having to resort to unsavory means...
And yes, I agree that having no Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and no Phantasy Star Portable 2 on Vita is sad panda inducing
@AVahne I've had a few Nintendo OS issues myself. I've had a couple on the Wii U- one at Christmas 2012 on the first update, I started the update then went to sleep... bad choice, because the console automatically powered down with no input after an hour, bricking the system. It was repaired at no charge within warranty, though. Another one was somehow caused by dust or some other physical pressure in the gamepad (maybe, according to the phone tech?), it prevented the touch screen and all but the TV and Power buttons from working. It was a temporary issue that left as mysteriously as it came.
My 3DS, on the other hand... this might not have even been an OS issue, but... it was certainly unusual.
I was playing Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked back in September 2011... about 10-20 minutes after I fused the Megami Sarasvati, the touch screen stopped working, and then only one or two of the buttons were working. Resetting the console and resetting the battery did nothing to change the situation, and of course it was impossible to calibrate the buttons or touch screen. I sent the 3DS to Nintendo for maintenance, and it was fully repaired under warranty at no charge. It was a sudden and inexplicable critical software issue, I've never seen anything like it before or since...

You...I'm sorry to read all your misfortunes with Nintendo's consoles. Certainly worse than what I've experienced. Hopefully you won't be getting anymore issues in the future.

Who really care about backward compatibilty?
Nobody. (Playstation 2 games cant be played on Playstation 3, some can but not all of course)(Xbox One cant play Xbox 360 games)
3ds can play without problems games from ds (yeah, one generation backward compatibilty). What about great games from gameboy advance?
You can play them on wii u but not all.
BUT as you said some (many)games from Playstation Portable cant be played on Ps Vita and this is not even a JOKE.
