The anticipated Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS amiibo update has finally arrived, lining up with the wider western launch of the New Nintendo 3DS this week. In addition to amiibo figurine support, Version 1.0.5 of the portable iteration of Smash also allows players to post in-game photos to Miiverse, and share and download replay & Mii Fighter data with other users globally. It should be noted, any content posted to official server will be deleted after 30 days.
To activate the Smash Bros. update, users can head over to the eShop, or download it when starting the game from the HOME Menu. As usual, this latest update is required for players who wish to continue using the game's online multiplayer features, and also means users can no longer play local multiplayer with those without the update installed. Additionally, any replay data that was saved prior to the update will no longer be playable.
Take a look at the official changelog below and get updating:
Share mode has been added.
- Users will be able to post photos, replay data, and Mii Fighter data to the official server to share with other users around the world. Users will also be able to search and download the content as well.
- Users can only post their own content. Content posted to the server will be deleted after 30 days.
- Users will be able to share and exchange photos, replay data, and Mii Fighter data with users on their 3DS Friend List.
- Content will be received when the Nintendo 3DS is connected to the Internet
- It may take some time to receive the data
- Content uploaded to the server will be deleted from the server after 30 days.
- Users will be able to post photos to Miiverse from within the game
- Photos will be posted to the official Snapshot Sharing Community
amiibo functionality has been added to New Nintendo 3DS XL
- Users can tap their amiibo figure to the touchscreen to transform them into “figure players (FP)” to battle, train, and level-up their FP.
- FPs that were trained in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U can be used in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.
- Nintendo 3DS/XL systems will be compatible with amiibo functionality using a peripheral device scheduled to launch in 2015 and the software update that will follow.
In order to let you play the game more comfortably, we have also fixed some issues.
Let us know what you think of Version 1.0.5 of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS in the comments below, and if you've spotted any other notable changes. We'll also be sure to let you know when an amiibo peripheral for the standard 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS is expected.

Meh...I just want Mewtwo already.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!
YEAH! CRAZY WITH HAPPINESS!!!!

...
ahem. Excuse me while I go update my copy.
I'm a little upset that my replays no longer work, but they weren't anything special. I'm still waiting on uploading custom stages for others to download on the Wii U.
Downloaded! I am so HYPED for amiibo support! I can't wait til the 13th!
Where's Chrom?
I can't believe we can now share replays! I hope you can share a particular portion of a replay...
And hey! Now people can shut up who were saying the peripheral wasn't gonna come out.
I've already shared replays and screenshots, haha. Right, @clayton ?
@TeeJay The Japanese press release regarding this update(through google translate) says the peripheral will be out in Summer 2015
I know you know about it, just adding a more specific time in.
@GuardianJk ...in Robin's Final Smash. lol
Aw. I wanted to share my saved replays [in fact, that's why I was saving them, so that I could share them when this update was finally out], but they're all obsolete. BAH!
@GuardianJk in fire emblem
Post pictures to miiverse? Yay, that's easier than that image share junk. Now let me post pictures from my Pokemon games, too!
When's Mewtwo joining the fight, then?
@Moon In Spring.
hopefully this means sharing and the miiverse stage is coming to the wii u soon. not the biggest fan of replays, photos, and custom characters but i think custom stages could be a very useful addition. even though along with that comes the "weird" stages.
I just uploaded a few screenshots and a Mii Fighter then. Also downloaded a replay in a couple of seconds. Must admit I'll miss my old replays, some great times were had.
With all these ridiculous restrictions and limitations I have a hard time understanding why anybody would choose to use Miiverse when you could do the same thing on a ton of other social media sites without these restrictions and limitations.
Oooh, this is a very nice update indeed! Glad I can finally share all my awesomesauce SSB snapshots!
Happy to see a share feature implemented.
Waiting for it to come for the Wii U version so I can get a bunch of custom stages.
But now I REALLY want this Amiibo peripheral too.
This is a cool update! I didn't even know the 3DS ver was getting these online sharing options.
@CapeSmash guess the guy meant this as in miis online, you can share miis instead of using them for online matchs.
Nice update though I would've preferred it to come next week when I actually have my New 3DS XL setup. This way I have a bad feeling I'll need to delete Kid Icarus Uprising to be able to do the system transfer
Better pre order the Amiibo scanner before it goes on ebay for ten thousand and is sold out all over earth.
This isn't live. I booted up my 3DS this morning, no notification, no update, booted up smash 3DS, still running 1.04 with no notification of anything else
@DESS-M-8 The updates are not automatic, you have to download directly from the eshop.
@DESS-M-8 Just put your 3DS in sleep mode for a bit and when you boot up the game you'll be prompted to update. Else head over to the eShop.
"amiibo functionality has been added to New Nintendo 3DS XL."
So not to the regular sized N3DS? (I already know it is for both, so dunno why you would put XL behind that)
@Monkeh It is functional for standard N3DS too, just the patch details were probably from America where standard N3DS doesn't exist.
The replays are being deleted AGAIN? I better get my camera...
It's a shame that I can't share my current replays or even play them anymore!
Looking forward to share some of my miis.
hmm... I don't think I have ever play the 3DS version of smash since the Wii u version came out...
@Captain_Gonru Space limitations, it's the largest 3DS game on the eshop combined with there not being a save backup for Smash. That said, I did some calculations and it seems not even deleting it will give enough space so I guess trying to buy a 32 GB micro SD card before Friday and transferring from my 32GB SD card to that micro SD card seems like the only viable option. (It also makes the system transfer much easier)
@GuardianJk Out in the not unique box.
ALL MY REPLAYS GONE AGAIN. FAWWWWWWWCK
So can somebody explain the mii thing? So I can upload my Mii fighters to this database and other people can download them? I don't recall Nintendo ever mentioning that but good on em
I'm pleasantly surprised at this robust update. I was expecting just basic Amiibo support, and this ended up being so much more.
Kind of bummed about losing my replays, but this is still a lot of stuff in this patch.
@DarkKirby Wish Nintendo could step up their Social Networking game. A screenshot shortcut would be nice from them so we can post to social media whatever we want and not be restricted to any of their nonsensical and restrictive services (miiverse, lol)
Sounds promising, hope to try it out in the future.
Yay! It's finally here
I won't be able to update until Friday (Although I don't really play the 3DS version due to the terrible loads times, that might change after Friday because I much prefer Smash Run for farming Custom Moves over Smash Tour. Smash Tour is just bad.) because I don't have enough space on my SD card. Planning on buying a 32 GB Micro SD card along side my MH4U N3DS this Friday since my current SD Card in my 3DS XL is only 4 GB, and you don't get an actual cartridge with the MH4U Bundle, istead you get a download code..
So, what, do I have to keep re-uploading them if I want them to remain available?
Nintendo, I think you forgot something with this update...MEWTWOOOOO!!!!
My old replay was me taking out 5 miis in cruel smash! Now nobody will believe me!!
Wow the update runs super smooth on the new 3ds ,I think the data transfers quicker on my 3ds than my Wii u .only being waiting 2 month's for it ,need more software to use the feature now, perhaps a new IP Using all figures like Disney knockout
I posted a 2 snapshots and a Mii Fighter. I also downloaded a snapshot and a replay (a Japanese Wario-Ware replay). Cool update, too bad I don't have a New 3DS XL to experience amiibo!
@Monkeh The regular New 3DS is not a thing in America.
@seb5049 He's coming in Spring.
