While not necessarily a feature used by many, Mario Kart 8's TV mode, allowing you to upload highlights directly to YouTube, is one of the games most modern features. That said, some users were encountering consistent errors with the feature, halting their attempts at racing stardom on the web.
Nintendo promised an update to resolve the problem, but rather than issue a software-only fix has opted to fix the problem with a system update. Version 5.3.1 (add a U or E for your region) is now available, and the changelog confirms that not only is the Mario Kart TV issue resolved, but our systems are also that little bit more stable.
Mario Kart 8 highlight reel upload fix:
- Resolved an issue that resulted in some users receiving error code 104-1852 while uploading a Mario Kart 8 highlight reel to YouTube
Improvements to system stability and usability:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
We love some stability and 'minor enhancements', though we suspect Mario Kart TV fans will be happiest with this update.
If you use Mario Kart TV and had experienced the previous error code let us know whether this successfully solves the problem.

Yay! I'll go update it now!
Now fix the Smash error codes. PLEEASSEEE!!!
We need more horsepower
Updating now. Smash next please.
About time! Hopefully my device will have updated by the time I get home. Been itching to upload a couple of vids I have saved as favourites.
Hopefully this is Nintendo beginning to roll out system-wide youtube integration, in a PS4 fashion. Well, I can dream can't I?
Finally!
"Also adds sweet, sweet stability". Yet every time I update, my system still crashes.
Curious that it is a system update - it would mean that the issue originated from the OS network code and not from Mario Kart 8 itself. Let's hope that this time there will be no reports of permanently botched WiFi module...
Where is the update for Link Amiibo support?
@SanderEvers Yes there is!
Gamepad receives h264 stream from Wii U so video data has been encoded to h264 on the Wii U side. Same data can be posted to YouTube.
Who wants to upload some video that nobody is going to watch - and nobody SHOULD be watching - Mario Kart is for Racing - not for uploading videos - I mean who cares?
Uuuhh! Cant wait for that extra stability!
I tried to upload some highlight reels of the DLC tracks but the dreaded 104-1852 error blocked it every time. Great to see this issue resolved.
Every time when they say "system stability" they make me to remember they sold me a Wii U unable to be stable and each update makes me think they ae unable to resolve that problem.
@BarryDunne No, it does not. Images for Gamepad are either rendered on a separate render target, or cloned from main buffer, and then sent through custom microcontroller to the Gamepad. The microcontroller handles the encoding on the fly, but you cannot get that encoded data back on the system and do anything with it, it just goes off via custom WiFi to the Gamepad. And you can't just add background streaming done with CPU or GPU, because that would ruin game performance.
@BarryDunne Of course, and how is that related to streaming games?
Wait, they still don't have a spectate in the most likely mode in Mk8? Not interested.
@BarryDunne I've triple-checked every comment you made in this topic and never found a single reference to video chat, and because you initially said something about streaming, then I assumed you are still talking about that. Be more specific in the future.
@BarryDunne Cool, nevermind all that, I'm just being annoying. :]
Anyway - it's good that stuff is getting fixed. Now all we need is a remedy for that dreadful Smash error that is popping up for some people.
@BarryDunne Needs spectate. They only have it available when you join a new group and they are currently racing so I know that it can be done lol.
@ledreppe Sounds like you've got a faulty one. My Wii U has never crashed once during the whole year I've had it.
@BarryDunne Mario Kart 8 needs (retro) battle arenas, then it is flawless.
@BarryDunne I would mind and many others I think would mind paying 50 euros for a so-called best online service, especially considering that playstation plus has many problems too. Free online on Wii U is a bless fow what it offers and free online in general should be the only way. (Just adding my opinion)
@Tritonus Well erm... no actually, it has already had hardware repairs done by Nintendo. So it's definitely either the OS or the games.
Fix smash now. Surely that's what many wants right now.
My Wii U is so stable right now that it can hold three horses, two asses, an ox, several ducks, and a chicken. Maybe next update I'll be able to get the dragon in as well.
The stability thing to me doesn't look to make all that much of a difference. Well I hope it gets better and better with each update.
But will it upload at 60fps now???
"...one of the *game's"
And it's working again!
Ive never seen any errors when uploading thankfully.
I am still getting errors as when I upload a DLC track it uploads to youtube but when I post it to miiverse it says community does not exist
