With the Animal Crossing Plaza service ending this month, New Leaf Director, Aya Kyogoku, has issued a reminder and a message of thanks to loyal fans of the service.
The plaza remains available on the Wii U eShop until 22nd December 2014, and when this year comes to a close, monthly surveys and the ability to post to the Animal Crossing Series Community will stop. From this point onwards, only existing posts will be able to be viewed within the community. Nintendo will also continue posting news related to the series in the Animal Crossing News Community.
On a touching note, players will still be able to visit their favourite characters when the service has finished.
Read the full message direct from Miiverse below:
Hi there! Aya Kyogoku from Nintendo here.
It's already December, and that means only a few weeks left before the Animal Crossing Plaza service comes to an end. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who's downloaded and enjoyed Animal Crossing Plaza! And to those of you who haven't – why not take this final chance? Animal Crossing Plaza will remain available on Nintendo eShop until 22nd December 2014.
The end of the Animal Crossing Plaza service also means that after 31st December the monthly themed surveys will stop, and it will no longer be possible to post to the Animal Crossing Series Community. From next year on, you will only be able to view existing posts in the community. So, please take the chance to post to your heart's content in the coming days, and be sure to vote in the final survey, which will decide who was the neighbour of the year in 2014!
Even though you won't be able to post to the community anymore, you will still be able to visit all your favourite characters in the plaza after the service finishes, as long as you have already downloaded Animal Crossing Plaza. So be sure to drop by whenever it takes your fancy – don't be a stranger!
We're also going to continue posting news related to the series here in the Animal Crossing News Community, so stay tuned for more information about Animal Crossing next year!
Let us know in the comments if you're sad to see the end of this charming community-driven service.

That's only 2 days before i get a Wii U! Damn!
@TantXL your not missing anything
Probably one of the more useless looking apps I've seen. I mean, for free I guess it's cool but still pointless to me.
For those who had fun with it though, sorry to see it going.
I'm going to place my bet that 'news of 2015' is a free to play, animal crossing on Wii U. I shall be returning to this page in a years time to brag about my foresight. Good day.
@PinkSpider Oh well that's good i guess.
I am pretty disappointed that it is ending, but I knew it was going to be over by the end of year anyway. It's really nice seeing all the villagers in high definition and it makes me wonder how nice the next Animal Crossing will look on Wii U!
It's a shame that the service is ending like the Digital Deluxe Program, hopefully this means we get some news on a new Animal Crossing Game.
i never knew it existed until today. When it release last august did they say its just til the end of the year?
I really like the charm of the plaza and the music, it sounds really good good with K.K's guitar.
A Wii U AC makes sense. A game that sucks away all your game time will fill those release gaps perfectly...
Any official announcement about the DDP ending in 23 days? I know the date is well known on their website but for such a big program I'd really like Nintendo to address it's passing.
Never kind of really understood what was the point of Animal Crossing Plaza, there was Miiverse community and some voting thing? But was there anything else?
Aww, that saddens me a bit. It was a nice place to visit and spend a few minutes of my time. Conversely, I've never really understood the point of Miiverse, so I guess we each have our own.
On the plus side, Isabelle will stop winning every single poll just because she's in everyone's town. Who is best at Hide and Seek? Isabelle! Who is the most likely to cook an excellent dinner? Isabelle! What colour is the sky? ISABELLE!!!
honestly, they should just make it a skin for the current Wara Wara plaza
@rjejr
I am afraid they will just keep quiet about it and let it die without much fanfare. I hope I am wrong here.
@sinalefa - Did you notice all the names here are orange instead of blue? I think they are always blue, the orange is bothering me. It's early though and I'm uncafeniated so I could just be imagining things. Although everything is orange, glad I'm not hung-over.
I had completely forgotten about this thing. Not gonna miss. Maybe they'll make AC for Wii U? It sells best on handhelds though so I'm not so sure if they'd do that.
The plaza was definitely a crowd sourcing tool. Nintendos been gathering up info for AC Wii U for the last year +. Im excited for a news flash soon!!!
Does this mean Animal Crossing U?
@rjejr - Does the name color match the background of the section they put it in?.....3DS is orange, Retro is red, Wii U is blue?
Guess I'll have to make sure I never delete this app. I don't use it often, but it's nice to have.
@Captain_Gonru
It was limited to people with the black Wii U.
@rjejr
You are right, and it is odd. This may be the only article with the orange font.
I used this for like 10 minutes. It was a nice small demo to see how beautiful an Animal Crossing game would be on the Wii U.
@Captain_Gonru - DDP stands for "Digital DELUXE Promotion" which meant it was applicable to all 32GB Wii U which came in the "Deluxe" bundle w/ Nintneod Land and a couple of stands, which as @sinalefa pointed out were the black model in most places (Japan had both models in both colors I think, but I don't know if they even got the promotion. The 8GB white were labeled "Basic".
Starting Jan 1 they really should roll out the promotion to every Wii U. It's not like they are mailing people checks, it's 10% BACK in store credit, meaning you have to spend money to get it, and you can only use the credit to BUY more estuff. The system is already in place, might as well use it. And some people MAY be getting 8GB Wii U still, Target has the Skylanders bundle now which comes w/ the white 8GB bundle. I think it's a win for everybody if they exten dit after Dec 31, and they won't be lieing b/c it was "exclusive" to deluxe owners before but now it could be open to everybody. Better than letting it die and annoying people. PSN has been constantly troubled since "other OS" was removed. Not that Nintendo should do anything to appease criminals, but consumers should be enticed to spend money, not wiithold it.
@Gerbwmu - Thanks for the tip, I noticed another Wii U eShop article is also orange based. Guess I'll be skipping all eShop news from now on
I'm a bit sad to see it go but the "stay tuned next year" part almost definitely means AC Wii U! Can't wait!
I guess I probably redownload this again. It's not like I am not lacking in HDD space to keep it on the drive and I would hate to lose it like I did with the Rayman Legends Challenge App.
Silly as it may sound, I have a soft spot for demos, promo, preview releases. In this digital age, these little pieces of history and events just disappear.
@rjejr
When I make a CN survey for a retail game that I download, I make sure one of the reasons is "To get credit from the DDP" that is one of the choices they give.
Hopefully everyone does the same and Nintendo notices this is important. I know I won't get the same amount of eShop games if they remove it.
@sinalefa - I've purchased very few eShop games - Kung Fu Rabbit, Advance Wars, Trine 2, Spin the Bottle, Toki Tori 2+ - so I don't think I could buy any less, but I only bought KFR and the HW DLC b/c I had $15 in eShop credit from the DDP. (I got most of it from WW HD from MK8 and Game and Wario from CN Plat) so it would make me think twice when purchasing the few games I do buy. Swords & Soldiers 2 is still day 1 though as long as it's $14.99 or less.
@Captain_Gonru - "smart aleck"
Sorry about the tone, no offense intended, honest.
I'd guess since all the new black boxes say "deluxe" on them then you can still get in on the deal. But as I said in my previous post they are still selling the Skylanders bundles which only have 8GB so they are not all deluxe models. I saw 1 on the store shelf in Target on Friday right next to the 2 red Wii Mini, which are still $99 if you are interested
And here's to hoping that Animal Crossing U will be the first to hold my interest for more that a few months.
All the plaza does for me is make me crave a new installment in the series! New Leaf was superb but after 600 hours it is time for me to move on to the next game.
@sinalefa I do that as well and will be pretty disappointed if they don't have plans for something else similar down the line. It definitely encouraged me to buy digitally and I for one think it should be made permanent!
nooooooo!!!!!
@BarryDunne Well, it certainly wouldn't be great if it was "free to play" like he suggested. "Free to play" is industry euphemism for "free incomplete piece of crap filled to the brim with microtransactions".
@Dpishere
Nice to hear. I also want this to be set up permanently, since it is a win-win for both Nintendo and us. Iwata said long ago something about premium prices for heavy spending customers, and we saw nothing about that anymore
@sinalefa Yeah I remember that also. Maybe they are waiting until the digital deluxe promotion ends to spill the beans. That or it will be announced at E3, which would be a heck of a wait.
It looks like I would enjoy it, I'm getting a Wii U for Christmas so I will just miss being able to download it. The 22nd is a weird date to end it.
