Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs for Wii U is due out next month, and new details about the long-awaited release continue to surface. After a series of ongoing promises, an eventual confirmation that the game was in fact on its way to Nintendo’s latest home console, and follow-up news that the Wii U entry would not include any downloadable content, the latest update reveals surprisingly positive information.
The Watch Dogs companion application has recently received an update making it compatible with the Nintendo version of the game. By using this app, players will be able to play the game with friends on the Wii U or any other console / PC. Race and Free Ride modes are both supported as well.
Watch Dogs for Wii U is due out in North America on 18th November and Europe on 21st November. Let us know in the comments how you feel about this latest news, and if you will be picking up the Wii U iteration of the game on release.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip!

Uh oh. Brace yourselves...
Anyway, 1 month to go and no info, no in-game footage nor a trailer. SMH.
I decided to pre-order this again last week.
Looking forward to it
@Nintendolife you guys should do a poll on this, ask:
I'm definitely getting this at launch.
I'm waiting for bargain bin price.
I'm not getting it.
Love to see the results.
And go!
Yes, I have resisted playing it on other platforms and remain spoiler free to this date. I will give you my money Ubisoft, but I want you to keep supporting the Wii U with core tiles, not "Just Dance". I know, this is business not a charity, but I am currently quite disappointed with third parties in the way they are handling the Wii U, reading stuff like "no DLC" for instance gives me a mix of sadness and anger.
I've had this on preorder since day of announcement and have resisted the temptation to cancel the pre order, although that temptation has become harder to resist as the release gets closer and only negative info is being released via hearsay whilst Ubi stay silent.
Right now this news still hasn't softened that temptation and unless something comes soon from Ubi then this will be a cancelation on the 15th November. (Deadline I've set myself to make up my mind)
So far there are more negatives than positives. Original delay to allow more time to work on WiiU specific gamepad integration only to apparently have a map on the gamepad!! No DLC!! No official released screenshots/in game footage/game specifics 😦
Lots of 'what nots' the WiiU version has instead of 'what does'.
Come on Ubi break your silence for those of us who remain committed.
Does this mean we get to try out this second screen gaming stuff??........oh wait!!!
played it on pc -did have plans to buy on wii u originally but you know how ubisoft is with delaying wii u versions- back in may and it was a sorely disappointing experience i.m.o , its a decent game but overly flawed and jarringly rushed.
its going to sell poorly going up against smash bros and bayonetta, but of course it will be our fault, they could have released it a month or two ago when there was a gap in releases
This is such amazing news!! I always have WAY too much time at Uni to just sit on my phone, it'll be great to get some homeconsole interaction!
I would definitely buy this in a Ubisoft Sale but the moment passed so long ago it is beyond a joke. You just know they are going to release it at full price as well despite the delay and lack of DLC.
If this WAS worth £50 then......it lost £10 value after a delay.....£10 value through lack of dlc and future support.....£5 for lacking console specific features after saying it would .....that's a £25 game to me now without even reading a review on how it runs on the Wii u !!! Throw in the fact that it's riddled with bugs on other platforms that have not been properly patched and Ubisoft have a horrendous record of patches on the Wii u and I'm pretty sure II'llbe waiting for a sale if I buy this!
Buying it day 1 even though I know I wont like it. I don't like sandbox games enough to play more then 1 or 2 a gen. but I have to support this if I want more games on Wii U. I really just want to play as many games on my gamepad as possible and that why I waited.
It will probably retail for €/$60,- while four weeks later you can buy it in the Steam sales for half that price or less. Smart thinking Ubisoft.
@ULTRA-64 Exactly how I view it too.
If there was any fun taken out of the GamePad whatsoever, if only a gyro aiming option, I would gladly pay 60€ for it, DLC or not. Now I may not even pay 25€...in fact, the Vigilante edition for PC is £29.99, so no.
The dlc should be in the game after a delay like this, unless it comes out at £30 or less i wont be buying now
@Shiryu Yeah I did the same thing. I understand everybody hates Ubi but the game is still coming to the console so I'm supporting it. Sorry.
Watch Dogs? You mean the game that comes out just weeks before SSBU and that is not Sonic? You mean the game who will go to the new products aisle to the bargain bin in approximatively one week? The game which everybody who actually wanted got a used copy already for other systems, or low-priced on Steam? The game that has had so much content cut for Wii U version that even the companion app seems like great news?
THAT game? XD
Well that's one think that wasn't cut now we need to hear about online functionality, in fact we need to hear ANYTHING about this port that doesn't make us feel cheated. Come on Ubi just give us one in game trailer
@Kosmo It comes out three days befor Smash Bros Wii U in NA, so it probably do the worst here.
Watch_Me_Not_Buy_This_Game
I remember feeling excited for this game last November. I had actually planned to get a Wii U for Watch Dogs and SM3DW. When it got delayed, I waited until MK8 was on the horizon. Now, with all that is missing I won't pay more than $30-40 for it.
Dead to me, dead to me!!
Too late! I wanted it back when it was released on the other systems. Now there's just toooooo many awesome games coming out. Way to think things through Ubisoft! Release it the week before Smash!
Another lazy effort from Ubisoft for the Wii U. I'm so jaded and done with this company I've even decided to pass on Rayman Legends, even though I was very excited for that game, because I'm DONE giving them any of my money. I hope Ubi never releases another Wii U game again, we deserve better efforts from better companies.
Who needs DLC or same day release when we get an update to their app....
I care just enough to post this to say that I don't care.
The fact this game is higher than full price in Australia ($90 vs $80) is beyond ridiculous. I give it 2 months before an eshop discount followed by a permanent price drop to $30. I'll maybe consider it then.
There's an App for Watch Dogs? Well this is news to me.
Yeah I'll support Bayonetta before this.
@RedRocBoy Just bought Metal Gear Rising few days ago. Don't know why I missed this game! Platinum's madness à go go!
The only games for Wii U i'm looking forward to this year end is Captain Toad and this. Not a Smash fan, not a Bayonetta fan, not a Dynasty Warriors fan.
Plus, this is literally the only mature open world game Wii U will ever have. I'll be booking it.
@Kosmo well when you put it THAT way....sigh...oh Ubi...
Don't care much as I never use these extra modes or DLC (which is why I'm not butthurt about no DLC/not having to spend more money). My backlog is too big to play beyond the standard campaign of games.
I just got an Xbox One and could buy this for it, but I'll pay extra and get it for Wii U. I'm a big boy and can deal with Ubisoft's practices without becoming bitter.
I remember being super optimistic about the Wii U version, because it seemed like it would've meshed very well with the platform.
We've barely heard anything about the port other than what the game WON'T have, so nothing about what Ubisoft has done is inspiring any confidence.
the next day.... WATCH DOGS CANCELLED DUE TO UBISOFT LOGIC!
@andreoni79 Good choice. That game is insane. Wish we could get all the Platinum games on the eShop.
I'm looking forward to the game, but i didn't really understand the appeal of the companion app. I'll check it out when it is released
@KillScottKill Holy crap!!! An adult.
I thought the whole point was the Gamepad was going to be used instead of this app ?
(If I am going to get it then it will be at current ZombU prices and no more).
Has anybody got a link to a video of actual Watchdogs WiiU footage? ...and I don't mean a video with 'WiiU' in the title, whilst the gameplay has square and circle buttons on show, lol!)
@Worthy
Nope as none exists! 😂
@ULTRA-64 Have they patched SC Blacklist's multiplayer yet?
Well, they made me wait way too long, too many games coming out now, they WILL say it's Nintendo gamers their fault it won't sell, whatever happens, and we'll never see a sequel to Red Steel 2 or ZombiU anyway... So, I'll wait untill they stop shamelessly asking full retail price. Cancelled my pre-order after that period of uncertainty if it would be canned or not. I was going to get the version with the statue an all that, but it seemed they already canned that version for Wii U. What a mess, can't wait to get blamed for their bad sales, as a Nintendo fan.
if it has online free roam i am getting it day one. if not i will wait until a later date to pick it up.
@gatorboi352 What about Xenoblade Chronicles X (for next year) and Devil's Third? I understand what you're saying though, if the Wii U had a wider range of genres, so that everyone could enjoy it, then I'm sure more people would buy a Wii U. It's a shame that to get the widest gaming experience possible you need 2 consoles, or 1 console and 1 PC (Wii U and PS4/X1) (or Wii U and PC). The reality is that many people can't afford more than one console, so Wii U is not necessarily always a viable option for people. Nevertheless, like you, I'm going to support Watch Dogs for Wii U (despite already owning PC and PS4 versions), because if enough people buy, perhaps Ubisoft will reconsider to put their games on Wii U (at the end of the day, it's the money that counts).
@Ryu_Hazuki_san The other versions had online free roam from Day 1, and since Watch Dogs Wii U has a companion app and how other Ubisoft games for Wii U have had online, then I'm sure it'll have online free roam Day 1, if that's any consolidation.
I'm getting it for sure, maybe not day one but I'll get some1 2 get me it for Xmas
I had this preordered after E3 last year but after all the delays and BS I cancelled it. Honestly I don't know what Ubisoft expects anymore as they obviously jeopardized this game on the Wii U.
I'm getting Watch Dogs for Wii U when it costs 29.99 or lower.
Sorry Ubisfot, but I've been saving for Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. I can't buy your game right now.
it's kind of a double negative. If we dont buy it than that's telling 3rd party developers that wii U is no good. BUT at the same time if we do support it than we are telling 3rd party developers that we except poor ports of good games on other systems. What is a nintendo fan to do! :
Yeah, it's a game thats released one year to late, with the least amount of content of all versions and guaranteed no support. Buying this version is basically just plain stupid.
Buying this game won't improve the Wii U's third party support.
If everyone bought this after what Ubisoft has pulled, we'd probably get more third party games, but they'd all be full-price, lacking in features, terribly optimized, measly GamePad integrated, rushed/delayed to infinity games.
I will put down my money on third party titles that are made properly on the system and/or utilize it in a way that couldn't be done (with the same experience) on another console. ZombiU is a great example. Batman Arkham City was made properly on the system and (to my knowledge) includes all DLC. Heck, even Call of Duty (Black Ops II) runs properly and looks a bit better than the 360/PS3 versions as well as having that dual screen local multiplayer and multiple control options.
Three Watch_Dogs Wii U screen shots, release date, price and download size released - are Nintendolife going to follow this up with Ubisoft?
@kyuubikid213 Arkham City wasn't made properly on Wii U. It was ported by a smaller, inexperienced team (NOT ROCKSTEADY) and threw in a load of worthless Gamepad features to make it appear like a good job. Zombie U is a 360 game by another small inexperienced team with gamepad tacked on (though brilliantly). Black Ops 2 was a decent port though it was ported in less than 4 months with a small team of 40 people - same with Ghosts.
If these titles were designed and made properly on Wii U, the Wii U versions would feature much higher resolution textures, lighting effects and polygons over the 360/PS3 versions but I believe this is not the case.
