Sakurai san loves to keep his fans on tenterhooks, and today he released a new screenshot that revealed two versions of a new single-player mode in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
The picture shows two differing versions of what can be assumed is a single mode of play. The two versions are prefixed 'Master' and 'Crazy' with the respective bosses featuring on the front. See the post of yourself below:
Due to the traditional nature of Master Hand and Crazy Hand and the quantity of gold in their icons, it's likely that Crazy Hand's icon represents a higher difficulty. It does seem strange to have Master Hand – the iconic final boss of the series – therefore representing a simpler challenge, so it's not a watertight theory.
What do you make of this new screenshot? When will Sakurai san put us out of our misery? Let us know your thoughts about this in the comments section below!

I could be wrong but has crazy hand even been shown without Master alongside him? If not Master Hand could be along for the ride in the right mode.
I really got to hand it to him... He's a real tease...
@maetsnigiro U w0t m8?
Why does he always give Wii U info as teases? Imagine what everyone would think if this is just a left or right handed option(i know it isn't but tease)
@Undead_terror indeed... its a new acc too — this is intresting... it may be Normal mode and Hard mode for Clasic? insted of the Intencaty meater the 3DS Gets.
What about a game mode where you play as the Master / Crazy Hand and use the Wiimote Plus motion controls? LOL.
This could be "Special Orders" mode, judging by the unused stuff found in the 3DS version.
Master Orders on the left, Crazy Orders on the right.
What that means exactly is a mystery, though...
Nintendo direct CONFIRMED for this week !
Well:
1. it is located in Games & more > solo
2. part of it is obscured by Pixelation
Oh my God! Are we actually gong to be able to play as Master and Crazy Hand!? YES! MY SECRET PRAYERS AVE BEEN ANSWERED! ...Ahem, anyways, it could be something completely different (which I would find odd), but I hope that's what they are.
@xj220_afiles Where did you hear that?
@maetsnigiro Okay!
Eh, if its just you face the two hands and wagering your money, it's not that interesting.
Maybe you're pitted against one or both hands, with them having unlimited health, and you need to do as much damage as you can before dying?
Maybe it's a mode where you play as a single Hand on the Gamepad, you try to endure waves of enemies that are generated on the fly, Master Hand being regular with perhaps 2-3 stocks/upgradable stat management whilst Crazy Hand is more of a cruel permadeath mode?
Rosalina was partially inspired by the tweaking glitch of Ice Climbers, maybe playable hands in a restricted place is Nintendo's way of meeting halfway: playing as a hand in a conventional fight would be extremely weird. but if they're regulated to a single player game mode, then it would be more softer.
One is no doubt harder than the other, but that won't make the 'master' option 'easy'. Just 'not-as-difficult'. I'm hoping for a solid single-player experience. I doubt we'll see anything as good as SSE of SSBB but I'm hoping for something at least. Still disappointed that Tabuu isn't an optional fighter in this.
@erborlongan
It says "Master Side" and "Crazy Side." That doesn't give us much info...
6 weeks. This game is out in just 6 weeks and we're only now getting "hints" of modes.
Wheres Stage Builder? 2nd only to Subspace Emmissary in amount of time spent playing Brawl. We were told no sequel to SSE but we haven't even had an obtuse "we can neither confirm nor deny" for Stage Builder.
6 weeks. I guess they're waiting until after B2 comes out, always waiting for something.
@erborlongan
The labels in that picture translate to "Master Side / Crazy Side"
Crazy Hand has always been harder. I don't see why your assumption about it seems so uncertain.
I'm thinking it'll be crazy whatever it is. Gotta hand it to Sakurai, he knows how to come up with fun modes.
@rjejr Maybe he wants SSB U to be a mystery until it is released? Because he told nearly everything about the 3DS before it released. He could want to do the opposite with the home version.
Even if there are only new modes and no new characters, it would be really nice if he stopped giving unknown details about the game. Years ago, none (only magazines and such) knew about a game's content before it released.
Doesn't matter to me, I sold my copy. Still, if this is an Adventure Mode, it's a shame it took them so long, especially since delaying the 3DS version would've been preferrable to the incomplete version we got instead.
Now I'm even more suspicious about the two modes. I understand Master (blank) might be the more traditional fighting but what is it about Crazy (blank) that calls for that "how to play" on the icon. Perhaps a different style of gameplay?
Sakurai why do you always have to tease us?
What's this? Something other than a stage or trophy for the Wii U has been hinted(thought not confirmed) at? My only worry is that this is going to be two different versions of classic mode.
I think a SSB U Nintendo Direct is pretty close now, since Nintendo can't post many more teaser shots like the one today before people get annoyed about the teasing. The 3DS had the embargo for reviewers set to one week before release, IIRC. Nintendo will probably use a similar approach for the Wii U version, so that would mean 5 weeks until reviews appear. And I guess Nintendo wants all modes, stages, feature, etc to be known well before that.
too bad it is too much of the same. the guy was very arrogant about it telling everyone he has final say and he made the n64 version again. in the 3ds you get the same choice but instead you press left of right as you character walks to it
Incase nobody noticed it's under "Games & more" if you look at the screenshot. Only thing we're missing from brawl is boss battles but we only have those two.. maybe it will have us fight master hand or crazy hand whenever we want or something like smash run with just bosses and them two at the end.
It isn't classic mode.
@xj220_afiles Where?
Glad they had the sense to put a new mode in the Wii U version, I was worried they wouldn't! I actually like Smash Run a lot unlike other people so this better live up to at least that level of quality.
@Yorumi I think their letting the 3DS version run it's course first, they'll probably start the hype train 4 or 3 weeks before launch as that's still leaves plenty of time.
Well the Crazy mode is gonna have to be KEr-azy! Like lots of mad crazy stuff happening all at once, woah I haven't got enough fingers to cope with it all!
Something like that.
@Inkling I was just kidding. But I think there is good chance a Smash Direct for Wii U will air soon. There is so much we don't know about this version yet.. like this special mode.
My mind definitely went to the wrong place when you see Master "", and Crazy "". I'm a terrible person.
I'm thinking it's some kind of mini game where you can use Master Hand or Crazy Hand to grab some gold to do... something... for some... reason, lol.
@maetsnigiro U WOT FAM ILL BASH UR HED IN A SWER ON ME MAM
@xj220_afiles It was too good to be true
My guess is one player is master hand on the gamepad, likely with a bizarre control scheme and up to 4 other players on the tv.
Oh! This must be what the "Master Order" and "Crazy Order" voice clips hidden inside the 3DS version where for! I wonder what the mode actually is?
Melee glitch anyone?
@Kaze_Memaryu How did you sell your copy of a game that's not even out?
@SockoMario The 3DS version is what I sold, just in case these extensions also apply to the 3DS version. If not, then SSB3D will simply remain an incomplete version.
@PieEater163
FYI, as of this Friday, Smash Bros. for the Wii U will be releasing in 5 weeks so by your numbers, they should be starting by next week. I don't see that happening as there is no hint to that.,
are you F**king kidding me!? ENOUGH WITH THE CENSORSHIP NINTENDO!!!
I hope we start to see more of the new stuff, as the game will soon be out, and I haven't got te foggyiest what modes the game will have.
Maybe it's censored because the words are NSFW:
Master Vajayjay.
Crazy D.
@Guitardude7 I don't exactly understand why, but suit yourself.
You really don't want us to discover anything on our own do you Sakurai? not a fan of it I must admit, i prefer the Nintendo of old. They wouldn't say bugger all about their games, and let players discover it all themselves. Its almost insulting these days: revealing EVERY detail about their games before release, dumbing down of difficulty to the point that replay value suffers, and the naming of consoles/games as if the audience are a bunch of brainless morons ('new' 3DS, Super Smash Bros for Wii U because we're so stupid we might try shoving a Wii U disc into a 3DS)
Excuse my rant guys, but stay tuned for a 'new' rant in the coming weeks!!
Master side or crazy side...
Special orders...
hm...
It sounds like an RTS to me but that will never happen
Master Orders/Crazy Orders to go with some unused audio files hiding in the 3DS version. This picture someone created shows that the text would match:
What exactly Master and Crazy Orders mean is a mystery...
