Nintendo has, undoubtedly, had a significant spell in grabbing headlines and provoking debate. Much of that attention, unsurprisingly, has been on the new 3DS models, though the big N has also been directing attention towards the Wii U.
Perhaps drawing some inspiration from the rather flashy Nintendo of Europe Wii U "Time is Now" trailer, Nintendo of America has today unleashed a sizzle reel of its own. Its message and approach is very similar, though in this case the title is "Games of Past, Present and Future", highlighting terrific titles available right now and those that should be on our wishlist.
It's another stylish effort with a focus on retail games, so check it out and share your thoughts in the comment section.

Sizzilin'
Pretty awesome. Let's share this everyone, we know Wii U is great, let's do our bit and help get the word out, every little helps right?
Still no sign of star fox but still alot to look forward to, who needs FIFA and c.o.d
SPLATOOOOOOOOOON!!!!
And some cool new Xenoblade X footage!
What? where is Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101? How can they ignore these 2?
So Captain Toad still marked for 2014 in NA... cool
@vattodev
I'm not a fan of Pikmin, but it's really weird that it didn't show off...
One thing thou... Where is Shin Megami X Fire Emblem?? :@
Zelda in 2015, yeah right...
More original and exclusive games than either of its two competitors, hands down. Far BETTER games released or announced so far than either Sony or Microsoft have managed to show. Better quality and a much wider range of gameplay mechanics than its kill count and violence-obsessed competition, hands down.
The "year's head start" excuse isn't holding up so well for Sony and Microsoft fanboys at this point; the Wii U is hands down the best and most versatile console of this generation, at least so far. They have a LONG way to go to catch up.
So, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors this year? Zelda and X in 2015? MH4U on 3DS? Amiibo? New 3DS? Splatoon?... (a ton of extra greatness)? And a lot of announcements that are Japan only so far but will hopefully get to the rest of the world...
Nintendo blitzkrieg, the same thing that made 3DS from the very much underappreciated underdog to the one system to rule them all.
can;t wait for Bayonetta 2 the Bayonetta Bloody Fate blu ray limited edition dvd is on amazon uk for anyone.
@Ryno Why not? It was almost ready to show at E3 2013 and has been in development for about 3 years now. The game will be ready for Holiday 2014. Circle your calendar.
'Sigh'... I guess I'd be lying if I said "This video isn't good." They should have done this way before but that complaint has been beaten to the ground...
@Ryno Believe Zelda 2015 at least till E3 2015 when it is delayed that is.
Again,we need more stuff like this in commercials and general promotion so people know more about the system.
Go Nintendo Go!
could it be that ninty is starting to market the wiiU properly?
As far as I know, Nintendo is already in CORE mode... just what Miyamoto-san have ordered.
Good to see Xenoblade Chronicles X got in there.
That's pretty cool. I'm seriously reconsidering my Xbox One Sunset Overdrive preorder since Bayo 2 just got a release date. That would give me WAY too many games to play, and my wife, baby and school work will not allow me to have as much fun as I should with all of the awesomeness that's coming. Damn you, responsibility!
It's already a good thing when they promote their games.
Great hype up video although now I can't wait for all the great games.
Captain Toad, Bayo, and Xenoblade X, and LoZelda are must haves for me...
Splatoon and Smash are maybe...
Hyrule Warriors and Yoshi I'll grab if they come down in price at some point.
Hype
Im glad to see the name focused on past and present, the EU one was too disorganized. Though I havent watched it yet, no fun watching it before posting I hope they cut out Art Academy it was so out of place.
Oh yeah, much better than the other 1. They should replace WW HD w/ Pikmin 3 though. Pikmin 3 has about $15 worth of DLC they need to sell. W101 was great too but Plats B2 is in the video so its ok.
OK so now Wii U has games, is getting games, and will get more games. Time for some sdvertising and marketing. And they should NOT let the DDP expire anytime soon (Dec 2014 I think) unless they replace it w/ free $10 eShop credit w/ each Wii U to promte DLC and indie games.
It should sell.
@Ryno Games gotta release at some point. Four years is more than enough, so ya, 2015 seems pretty reasonable. Most games only take 2 to 3 years
@Maelstrom agreed. Glad to see they aren't treating this like xenoblade chronicles this time.
These are all top notch games!
Awesome trailer! Make this into a 30 second commercial now!
Get hyped!
They need a shorter version for TV.
@vattodev But think of it this way, Wii U has too many good games for one sizzle reel.
Make a version for TV please.
What? Where's Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101? These two games are of the best there is in Wii U! How could the ignore them?
VERY COOL vid!
@vattodev
Agreed. Pikmin 3 and W101 should be in there.
@Jazzer94 HD Development takes more time than expected. We will have to delay it until 2017. Please understand
Makes me wanna get a Wii U even more.
These videos are good because they will make people know about the great games that are out and ones that are going to be released soon.
@Zapkido If this was on TV, so many people would get a Wii U.
@ColdingLight wow, much grammar.
It makes sad seeing how little love shows Nintendo to the brilliant The Wonderful 101. One of the best and most imginative games in years, one that gets better and bettet the more you play it and that will keep you entertain for dozens and dozens of hours.
Kinda surprised that Mario Party 10 isn't in there, let alone Pikmin 3 or Wonderful 101.
@vattodev Pikmin 3 is my favorite game on Wii U so far. It's so annoying they leave it out but I guess it's not a system seller.
@danjohnson141 ikr we need starfox and metroid
Unite Love for the Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3!
But besides WWHD, the oldest of the games shown is 3D World, so they seem to be focusing on recent games. And Zelda, even as a remake, is a greater brand than Pikmin and W101.
Overall I feel it is a very organized and to the point reel, with the titles clearly shown and a neverending stream of gameplay. So happy of being a Wii U owner, now more than I was since launch.
@rjejr
I just hope Iwata's plan of giving their best customers cheaper prices replaces the DDP seamlessly, but that is me wishful thinking about it. I know you want something akin to PS+, but I don't want to see indies there. I have heard the "that game looks cool but I will wait until it is free with PS+" tons of times and I don't think it helps them, and they are the ones who could use the most support.
@sinalefa I agree that this reel is very focused. The left out Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101, which are both fantastic games (the fact that there are more great games available today, not present in the reel, can enhance the message for a "core" player with knowledge). They also left out Mario Party 10, Mario Maker and Mario vs. Donkey Kong U, which helped the "core" focus of the reel.
They need to show this reel in all stores and everywhere because this is the best ad of Wii U ever.
The coming year for Nintendo is looking great.
This video gave me chills it's so awesome.
I agree with xerneas, we need to put this in all stores.
@sinalefa - I checked the website, and it does indeed expire Dec 2014 though no date is given b/c it's Nitnedo and they don't believe in dates
Expiration Dates
Points will be earned on qualifying purchases until the end of December 2014.
Activation codes must be retrieved from the Deluxe Digital Promotion site by the end of March 2015.
・After the expiration date, please note that Points and unretrieved activation codes will have no value and will be deleted.
So no DDP for the EU for Capt Toad then.
I see your point about indies and PS+, but Nintendo should do something about DDP, probably just extend it a year or 2 or make it indefinite. I honestly don't think having it is that big of a deal, but getting rid of it is bad press. Especially since NOA just had that cool sizzle reel w/ all the 2015 games. Who needs negative press? See PS3 and "Other OS" removal. We all know how that turned out.
@rjejr
Man, you really are obsessed with dates. It says until the end of December, i.e. December 31st. In this particular case at least, I don't feel the exact day is necessary as it can be implied. But I know you are probably joking anyway
I wish DDP would extend for all of Wii U's lifetime. I was thinking about having it indefinite for people who got games online before a certain date, similar to the Ambassador program, or extend it if you spend a certain amount of money before a certain date.
What date you say? It's Nintendo so you won't be told until it can be seen in the horizon
No Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Pullblox World was an error..
Nonetheless, things are looking up for the future of the wii u from a games perspective. Nintendo are peerless as a creator of games...If Looking Glass Studios were still around, they might have competition..
but i'm of the opinion that the wii u is going to have an amazing library of exclusive games by the time it's done. Nintendo are absolutely on fire atm...
I hope next video reel includes Fatal Frame 5/Project Zero 5, The Devil's Third and maybe even a special surprise of Yakuza 1&2 HD and Rodea the Sky Soldier.
@sinalefa - Yeah, I was kidding, buy yeah I am date obsessed, so you were right on both counts. But still, why write "until the end of December" when you can just write "Dec 31". It's ridiculous.
But they have to extend it, yes? I think we're on agreement here, though I think a lot of other people will just say "let it end" like it said.
Whether it continues or not, Nintendo won't tell us until "the end of December" though
Heh, that was a much better sizzle reel from the past 2 years preceding this I gotta say.
Me Want A WiiU.
nintendo needs to chop this up and put it on tv and in stores.
So there's some decent games already out for the system, a few decent first/second party games due by the end of the year and a handful coming in 2015.
Now let's see a reel of all the big third party games we're supposed to get excited about...
I hope this is just a starter to get more attention to the Wii U here in the USA. It's a hard spot to be in especially with what little third party support which very little is really shown at all. People here are selling and trading their Wii U consoles for last generation systems mainly for the software support that's really a major issue with the Wii U. Especially third party releases and major multiplatform games that the Wii U is notibly absent from
Watch Dogs is one such example that was supposed to be a huge western release that showed up on everything but the Wii U "due to the consumers lack of interest in more mature titles such as the Assassins Creed series" which I had read somewhere but it was the stance and reason that Watch Dogs when and if it ever gets released may be the last M rated title for the Wii U.
As far as the Assassins Creed series goes I'm going to give a big "Well Duh!" to Ubisoft for stretching out a series far too much...
(to the point of handheld and multiple mobile phone games). We did get a Splinter Cell game which wasn't too bad but not too great either.
The effort put into the two Assassins Creed games that the Wii U had gotten. I personally think both looked great considering that AC 3 is technically a launch title for the system. Black Flag really did look great and held up rather well showing better than previous gen consoles but far behind the higher poly counts and improved textures of the PS4 and XB1. Even as a blind test to some friends. I took pictures with my iPhone and asked them "what system?" They couldn't believe it was the Wii U in all the photos with that much detail. I still have held out for Watch Dogs but it's now yesterday's news. That's a sad thing.
The sizzle reel itself shows just enough of which games that already are predicted to be big sellers but showing too little for other games but in order to make nice with the networks for the USA, it's the only hand Nintendo has to play and hopefully gain interest in hardware sales but also improve the already great software attachment rate for the Wii U already.
I'd really love to see some third parties return and produce new Wii U titles alongside the PS4 and XB1.
I'm sure some developers are curious of what can be done with amibo and the benefits of selling "limited edition" versions of games with Amibo figures inside but held back by the publishers that own them.(looking at you EA...)
