The Nintendo Download news has come in later than usual today, and no wonder. It's another lengthy list to get through this week, with some major retail releases joining a host of download-only options. With further preamble, let's get to it.
Wii U Virtual Console
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons (TECMO KOEI Games, $7.99) — It's another dose of Super NES for the Wii U platform, with this effort being an RPG strategy effort destined to swallow a lot of time for devoted players. Despite basic visuals and the fact this is the sequel in the series, we gave this a strong recommendation in our Wii Virtual Console Uncharted Waters: New Horizons review; we'll dive in again for some updated impressions, too.
Wii U Virtual Console Temporary Discounts
The Legend of Zelda — $3.49 (normally $4.99)
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link — $3.49 (normally $4.99)
Wii U Retail Downloads
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (Nintendo, $49.99) — The popular series returns as a Wii U exclusive, incorporating the GamePad and MotionPlus controls into the standard fare that the series offers. In some senses this title is a success, but doesn't hit all of its marks or reach its potential, as we explained in our Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games review. Available from 15th November.
Zumba Fitness World Party (Majesco, $49.99) — Available from 19th November.
Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! (D3 Publisher, $39.95) — Available from 19th November.
Hot Wheels: World's Best Driver (Warner Bros, $39.99)
Barbie Dreamhouse Party (Little Orbit, $39.99) — Available from 19th November.

Sonic Lost World (SEGA, free)
3DS eShop
Jett Rocket II: The Wrath of Taikai (Shin'en Multimedia, $8.99) — Released on 13th November as a post-Nintendo Direct treat, this action platformer from Shin'en Multimedia has surely been on the wishlists of those that sample the original Jett Rocket on WiiWare. Promising 60 frames-per-second with the 3D effect on full, this is certainly promising in principle; we'll jet in our review as soon as possible, but in the meantime you can learn more in our interview with Shin'en Multimedia.
Senran Kagura Burst (XSEED, $29.99) — Still due as a retail release in Europe in 2014, XSEED has opted to make this busty anime brawler an eShop exclusive in North America. This could be a good starting point for those unfamiliar with the series, as it includes the Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows and Senran Kagura: Crimson Girls content in one package. We'll start button mashing — erm, skilfully executing combos and moves — for our upcoming review.
World Conqueror 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, $5.99) — Set during World War 2, this is a strategy title where you manage troops and resources in a quest to take over and control territory. With Campaign and Conquest modes alongside a promise of in-depth gameplay, this does seem promising. We'll get an over-sized map and some toy tanks and soldiers to strategise for our review.
Word Wizard 3D (Enjoy Gaming, $2.99) — A collection of eight word games such as Hangman and 'Wordoku', with some 3D flourishes and a promise of "over 100,000 words" from each of the English, French and Spanish dictionaries, without any naughty ones getting through. Plugged as a fun educational experience, we'll get our thinking caps on and bring you a review soon.
Secret Mysteries in New York (Tulip Games, $5.99) — This is a hidden object game, though the PR spiel accompanying the announcement of its inclusion in today's update cheerfull refers to "beautiful 3D scenes" and "incredible gameplay", with the setting seemingly a whodunnit set in 1920 New York. We'll dig out a magnifying glass and work on a review.
3DS Virtual Console
River City Ransom (Aksys Games, $4.99) — Known as Street Gangs in Europe, this attempts to blend basic beat 'em up action with some simple RPG elements, as you bash in faces while buying items to help you on your way. It's basic and linear, but also a lot of fun, while this 3DS version includes two-player multiplayer using Download Play; if you want to know more check out our River City Ransom review.
3DS Virtual Console Temporary Discounts
The Legend of Zelda — $3.49 (normally $4.99)
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link — $3.49 (normally $4.99)
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX — $3.99 (normally $5.99)
3DS Retail Downloads
Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! (D3 Publisher, $29.99) — Available from 19th November
Hot Wheels: World's Best Driver (Warner Bros., $39.99)
Girls' Fashion Shoot (Rising Star Games, $29.95)
Barbie Dreamhouse Party (Little Orbit, $29.95) — Available from 19th November.
Frozen Olaf's Quest (Game Mill Entertainment, $29.99) — Available from 19th November.
3DS Retail Demo
Sonic Lost World (SEGA, free)
WiiWare
Deer Drive Legends (Maximum Games, $TBC) — WiiWare is back! No, really. Listed as a WiiWare release, Nintendo's list directs us to the Wii retail page for this gallery shooter, which we imagine is also rather like the 3DS game with the same name. Available from 19th November.

Sonic demos for NA? FInally!
I'll get Senran Kagura Burst, Jett Rocket II, and the Sonic Lost World demos.
Senran Kagura 3D, all the Zelda games and... SONIC LOST WORLD DEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Senran Kagura Burst all the way baby
The Wii no matter how much it wants to die just doesent want to die.
Nice download week.
VC discounts are awesome!
Not gunna lie... I'm super disappointed that North America didn't get Mega Man X2 this week like Europe did....
If I counted right, there are 25 games you can pick from. How is anyone choosing, "Nothing for me this week." Almost every genre is covered! Try something new people! There are other games out there besides 1st party titles!
Though I still need to play through a few other games first, rest assured I will eventually buy Senran Kagura Burst. Love that it has been localized!
I may get Jett Rocket II eventually, but Zelda DX and Lost World demo are first on my list.
Still waiting on Super Mario Bros. 3 here...
It looked disappointing, until I saw the Sonic Lost World demo listed for Wii U. Downloading that IMMEDIATELY.
A Wiiware release at this age? And here I was thinking Pandora's Tower was the last surprise from the Wii.
Anyways, I'll look into the Lost World demo on 3DS, and I'll wait to see if the Senran Kagura is bursting with flavour or a bust.
Getting Lost World demo. I have another game I want. Just not sure if it's going to be Etrian Odyssey IV or Soul Hackers. Or maybe both. Not sure yet.
WiiWare lives!!!!!!
Senran Kagura then Sonic, then I'll get River City Ransom.
Senran Kagura Burst released on my birthday! Alright!
Senran Kagura all the way.
Senran Kagura Burst and I'm getting Mighty Switch Force 2 right after. I'll also be trying out that Sonic lost world demo for Wii U and 3DS.
Maybe Sonic demo, or Jett Rocket...my birthday is Sunday and I asked for eShop cards so fingers crossed.
How long are we in Europe going to be denied Uncharted Waters: New Horizons? I hope it'll come soon.
Cheaper Zelda for Europe too!!!
Jett Rocket looked really good from the trailer, might get that if the review is good.
@WebHead Yet i dont see it
"We would like to increase our Virtual Console offerings and upgrade the service." - Iwata at Investor's Meeting late 2013
Nintendo continues its strategy of drip feeding bad VC games once per week, offering a good game once per month or so
"Please understand..." - Iwata when asked about bad VC strategy in early 2014 Investor's Meeting.
This is a huge week for Nintendo Download!! I wish there was an option to pick more than one as I'm picking up Zelda II (3DS VC) and the Sonic Lost World (3DS) demo. Maybe River City Ransom as well.
I'm quite stunned at a new WiiWare game.
Gah! No Mega Man X2? Laaaaaaame. I really hate it when Europe and America's VC releases are out of sync like this.
It's not a total loss; I'll be downloading the Sonic demo. But still, I was ready to play some more Mega Man. Now I'll have to wait a week. Grr.
uncharted waters 2 is a great SNES game.
After Iwata's statement about wanting to improve the VC, when will we see 2 or 3 releases a week as we did back in the early days of the Wii?
@Eddsnake: Only to get 0 releases 2 years from now?
I would suspect that they are holding off on Mega Man X2 until next week to coincide with their week of eShop discounts on Mega Man games. Maybe it will debut and at a limited discounted price at the same time?
Busty Brawling for me. If I like it I might check out the manga too.
Wow Sonic Lost World demo & Senran Kagura Burst. Awesome week.
is river city ransom any good?
Jett Rocket II
Retro City Rampage
The Legend of Zelda
Sonic Lost World Demo
No free money, so only the Sonic demo for me. Which kills me, because Senran Kagura looks fun.
Huh. Senran Kagura Burst's icon is different from the japanese version.
Oh wait it's just the shop icon that's different
When does River City Ransom come out? I see all these other games on the eShop but no RCR.
Ooo Sonic demo and Jett Rocket!
I will be getting Senran Kagura Burst and Adventure Time on 3DS. Nothing for me on the Wii U until Super Mario 3D World.
VC discounts, Sonic LW demo and Senran Kagura Burst in one week (looks at UK e-shop releases and weeps).
Just the Sonic demo for me. I Have to pinch my pennies for 3D world next week. Everything else is secondary.
This is a nice update! I want to try out the Sonic Lost World demo for sure. As far as buying something, I MAY get Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX. I want to own and play through all the zelda games, I just sadly don't have a lot of money now to buy all 3.
I already bought Zelda 1 and 2 on Wii U and own Link's Awakening. I'll be sure to try the Lost World demo tough to see how the controls are.
@JumpnShootMan Same here. I need X2!
I want Senran Kagura and the new wiiware game to support the service.
FINALLY! Been waiting for that Sonic Demo!
Senran Kagura time.
@xj0462 - I loved the game on NES.....it actually has quite a cult following to this day in my circle based on the names of characters and the constant dialogue running across the bottom of the screen. Think of it as a Double Dragon type game with the RPG like ability to buy items in various stores to upgrade your character....I'm hoping it makes it to Wii U VC soon
A pretty good week, especially for the 3DS.
I'm curious to see if the Adevnture Time game is any good on either platform.
I'm going to the VC area and can't find River City Ransom, I even tried doing a search and only found a preview video, is anyone else in America having the same problem?
Zelda II is a possibility for me, but most likely I will pass this week.
River City Ransom? Uncharted Waters? Sweet! Pretty good releases on VC this week.
Can't pick up anything this week though, spending my cash on upgrading Deus Ex Human Revolution, as well as pre-ordering the collectors edition of Ys: Memories of Celceta
Nice, I might eventually get Link's Awakening DX after all for my 3DS VC.
Never mind its there now!
Busty brawlin'....er..I mean Senra Kagura Burst for me this week.
Uncharted waters? Will buy that. Now bring the other koei games....nobunagas ambition, gemfire, romance of the 3 kindoms 2, etc.
Will also download sonic lost world demo. Good week.
where's the sonic for EU!
Never played River City Ransom, maybe I'll download that.
No Sonic demos in Europe, as usual...
I really hope we get the Nintendo discounts also, that seems like a good idea to boost sales.
I'll get Zelda and Link's Awakening for 3DS
Actually quite a bit I want to get this week.
Wii U Retail Demo
Sonic Lost World (SEGA, free)
Serves me right. I'm always looking for demos and the week 1 finally comes out on the Wii U it's for a game I just got on Tuesday. Oh well, still good to see 1 pop up on there. Now where's Lego Marvel? (I know I know, it's not up to Nintendo, it's up to whoever made the game.) Guess it's back to Target for WW HD and Sochi 2014.
Looking forward to the Sonic demo, hopefully coming to Europe soon toon! ^^
Aw, an Uncharted game! I'm buying it!
(jk)
a) where is Jewel Match 3. At 12:40pm edt the game was not available the others though were. I got World Conqueror 3D
2) Jewel Match 1 was a DS game. Didn't play it.
3) Why couldn't Koie have put NES Uncharted Waters on the 3DS VS
Senran Kagura Burst and River City Ransom for me!
@CountWavula Well that's one elitist's narrow-minded opinion. Sorry, but you don't speak for me or all the other people who can't wait to get their hands on this game! Jett Rocket II!
River City Ransom, Jett Rocket II, and the Sonic demo for me! Great week for the 3DS, thanks Nintendo!
Just purchased Jett Rocket II, and it's as good as some of you say Running smoothly and with nice gameplay controls.
Man that was a weak Sonic Demo. Already uninstalled it. Funny think that demo is larger than the new Zelda will be (Block wise)
Oh my. Time to download.
kinda half interested in trying that Hot Wheels game on the Wii U , buts its showing up for $10 more in the eShop than listed here. Not interesting in trying it at $49.99....
Yes, good week! If only I could vote twice. I need to buy Link's Awakening. I was going to wait until A Link to the Past would come for the 3DS Virtual Console, but I can't give up a sale! I'm also going to get River City Ransom sometime in the future when I get more money, which is mainly why A Link to the Past is my vote.
By the way, only 13% of you voted for nothing this week. That has to be a record. I haven't seen that few votes for nothing that week since EarthBound came out in July.
I'm getting Barbie: Dreamhouse for sure! Oh wait....nope. :3
Jett Rocket 2 looks great. I wasn't even interested before I saw the eshop trailer today, but it looks really neat. I was still hoping for SMB3 though...I'm almost positive it'll release next week to coincide with Super Mario 3D World. It's also on the future releases section of the 3DS eshop so next week is definitely looking likely.
I want the Sonic demos, I hope we get them (EU) soon.
Some good games — I beat New Horizons back in the day — but nothing I'm buying this week. I'll probably get Senran Kagura on sale but for $30 I can't justify it.
River City Ransom is an awesome game, I play that a lot on my Wii VC.
YAAAAAAAY!
A really good week (especially with Senran Kagura), but I don't have any money right now.
How come no discounts on the Zelda Oracle games? those are the ones I'm waiting to pick up, hoping they might be discounted again at some point.
RIVER CITY RANSOM???!!! ON THE GO???!!!! Bet that up, I got something to hold me down while I wait for Mario 3 to come out for Wii U n 3DS!
Sonic demo! Also Jett Rocket!
Got the Sonic demo, but I voted Zelda 2, 'cause that game needs more love, and I'm definately getting it with the discount. I'd get Zelda 1 also, but I wanna save cash for the next character sales they offer in the next weeks. (I already have Link's Awakening DX)
I'd love River City Ransom, but I already have it on Wii. (Funny thing is, I accidently bought/downloaded it, when I was trying to check how many blocks, and stuff it took up. Can't complain though, 'cause it's a good game.)
@bizcuthammer i dont think this is something they can turn around immediately. It definately takes some time to release it on virtual console or every possible game would b out. I just think minimal resources are allocated to virtual console
Does anyone know what happened to the Jewel Match 3 game? It's not showing up in the eshop.
@CountWavula Looks more like a generic male video game character.
jett rocket is a good impressive game, its like if mario and megaman had a baby.
and the sequel looks even more like megaman.
I downloaded Senran Kagura…for SCIENCE!
@CountWavula Shi'en has good controls / reasonable difficulty / suitable framerate. Which is unfortunately better than anybody else now. Those are the absolute basics but nobody else gets even those right. (Even a link between worlds I expect to be too easy first time around which will more than likely spoil it. They could solve it by allowing the hero difficulty from the start but choose not to.)
@DarkwingLz
That's not quite right, from what I remember the Wii VC was pumping out 2-3 games a week for the first 3 or 4 years of its existence, then went down to 1 release a week round about 2011, and the last release in Europe was a few months ago on the Neo Geo.
The Sonic demo is too late. I just finished Sonic Colors 100%, got extremely addicted to it, and thus have just paid full price for the new Sonic game, lol...
Does anyone know how much A Link Between Worlds will cost on eShop? Are digital purchases typically cheaper or the same price?
finally a sonic demo!....are the old zelda games w orth it? I have the seasons and a link to the past.
Are digital purchases typically cheaper or the same price?
Maximum retail cost. Retail games are always cheaper to buy if you look around than on the eShop. I don't mind downloading eShop exclusive games but for retail games, I always buy the cartridge solely for cost reasons.
