Nintendo has confirmed that it will be returning to European gaming exhibition Gamescom in 2013.
The Kyoto company sat out last year's event, which takes place in Cologne, Germany.
Tim Endres, Gamescom project manager at organiser Koelnmesse, is clearly happy with the news:
Nintendo's return is an absolute highlight for our community, exhibitors and trade visitors from around the world.
Exhibitors from 22 different countries have said they will also be attending the event, which runs from August 21st to 25th. These include Bethesda Softworks, Koch Media, Electronic Arts, Konami, Ubisoft, Warner Bros., CD Projekt and Mad Catz.

When was the last time they attended?
I wonder what they're going to show.
Nintendo needs to tour hard this year hitting every cafe and basement show along the way to get the Wii U word out to the gaming public.
Why they didn't attend last year is still baffling me tbh. They were literally a few months a way from a new home console launch!
Wasn't last year Gamescom terribly dis-organized with many people left outside, unable to get in because they sold too many tickets?
Hopefully this will help boost Wii U awareness in Europe.
Great! Anything gaming, tech based such as this, Nintendo neeeeeds to have a presence there.
i can see why they are attending due to poor sales on Europe.
I think they know they have the games to show now. The real advertisement will begin hopefully.
While I don't live in Europe, I am happy that Nintendo have decided to attend. Shows like give many people the opportunity to play games and systems which could result in a purchase later!
In the past have they used this show to make new announcements or is it more of a hands on of pre-announced titles sort of show?
Zelda 3DS announcement, calling it now.
EDIT: Wait, never mind, Spirit Tracks/Phantom Hourglass were announced at a different, US-locationed, gamescon. In March, then.
