Nintendo recently revealed that the DS is the best-selling console ever in the United States, but it seems the handheld has also performed pretty well in the United Kingdom too.
According to MCV's retail sources, combined sales of the DS family of consoles outsold the Xbox 360 by just 50,000 units, cementing itself as the best-selling games machine of 2010 in the U.K.
With the 3DS launching in a couple of months, it's good to see the DS is still performing strong and should hopefully continue to do so with Nintendo pledging to support it beyond the release of the 3DS. The DS sure does have a big pair of shoes to fill.

Interesting...
The dsi is without a doubt the most versatile system out there. It does a lot what others can't.
Glad to hear that the DS is as strong as ever.
@tech agreed
By the way, in your closing statement, don't you mean that the 3DS has big shoes to fill?
Wow. I'm actually starting to wonder if there'll be one DS per person in the world.
Obviously not, but I can keep hoping.
DSi. Enough said. Bright screen, plenty of functionalities, downloadable content, and SHANTAE! =P
But it's sounding more and more like the Wii successor should be on it's way...
Does that mean 360 outsold Wii in the UK this year?
@MasterGraveheart
Don't forget, we don't have Shantae yet.
@SoulSilver_IV: All good things in time.
Not surprising. @ SuperMarioFan .... if you include the Kinect, then maybe.
It is a very good console for two-player and multip-layer don't forget.
