With the success of the original Super Mario Galaxy, it should come as no surprise that a sequel is already in the works. Say hello to Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Judging from the game play trailer shown at Nintendo's E3 press conference, the game takes quite a few more classic Super Mario elements from the past titles and incorporates it into the new Super Mario Galaxy 2 game. We got to see a little ghost house action on one of the planets and the new boss fights look even more amazing than those found in the original release.
We also got to see quite a few shots of Mario riding Yoshi, so evidently Yoshi will play an even bigger role in this new upcoming sequel.
According to Reggie, Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't be hitting store shelves until 2010, so we've got a bit of a wait on our hands. Hopefully it will be well worth it.
Super Mario Galaxy™ 2: This upcoming adventure for the Wii console marks the first time a second 3-D Mario game has arrived in the same console generation. In the game, Mario rides his trusty dinosaur companion, Yoshi™, to new stars and the fantastic worlds found there. This 3-D platforming adventure provides longtime video game fans with a fresh round of out-of-this-world challenges in the style introduced in the critically acclaimed original. The game is planned for 2010.
We'll have more information on Super Mario Galaxy 2 as it becomes available.

Let me be the FIRST to say...HUZZAH!
WOW!!!
Yes! Yes! Oh... FANTASIC! My keyboard is diry from the drooling, people! Amazing... Cant wait
I don't know which is more exciting, New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Super Mario Galaxy 2.
BOTH
Yeah! the E3 rocked but not the end...
awsome dose any one have an news on the new wii zelda rumor?
@Corbie: more exiting? Could it be a little game called Metroid: Other M
Dude...another Mario game...and Team Ninja is making a new Metroid game...I think I am going to explode!
WOOHOO!!!
Oh I'm psyched about the new Metroid, but not as much as the Super Mario stuff. Close, but not quite. In fact, of all the E3 announcements, Golden Sun DS is on top of my list. WAYYYY on top!
I'm Only upset about 1 thing not Gba Service thats all But Nintendo i'm sorry for doubting you. Now i see the Light (with Metroid Nsmb Wii & Smg2 of course & the Dsiware Mario vs. Dk Minis March again)
Hopefully the difficulty curve on this one will be as good as the other and they won't require getting every last bloody star just to get the extra play modes this time!
What this also indicates is that the Wii has plenty of life left in it as a system. Unless they're prepping this for dual release on Wii2, but that I doubt.
I REALLY hope they fix the HUB world.
If they fix that I can put up with the other little niggles I had like HAVING to shake the Wiimote to do a spin attack rather than it being OPTIONAL.
Fantastic. This should be great. Hopefully there will be more replay value
The first Galaxy reminded me why I love video games, so I'm sure you can imagine why I'm totally pumped about this announcement (and it also, alongside Metroid, helped make up for what I thought was a rather unspectacular show, otherwise).
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Golden Sun DS
Metroid: Other M
I'm crying right now. I didn't see this coming, the awesomeness hit me right in the face.
:')
Must... get... SMG2... drools
Damn 2010! Come sooner!
YEAH!!!!
I've played a huge amount of video games in my time (perhaps an average number by this forums standards, lol) and I have to say Super Mario Galaxy 1 was/is my favourite video game of all time. I'm ecstatic. I need a cold shower now and a run round the garden in no particular order...
Oh and btw......YYYYEEESSSSS!!!!
AWESOME! I cannot wait for the sequel. However, I think they should delay this game for a year. If they've just started to work on it, I think it's best if we wait until the next console to see it.
@Super Smash Bros. Fan1999
they will absolutely not delay it
they announced it as the first second Mario 3D-Platformer on the same console ever, and so they'll release it on Wii
In addition so many people own a Wii and so they'll use their opportunity to cash in even more
And they obviously use the almost perfect engine of Mario Galaxy 1 so it wont be necessary to delay it further in the future
EPIC WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yoshi will play "even more" of a role than in Galaxy? Good news since he wasn't in the first one at all.
This truly looks much better than the first Galaxy. Can't wait.
2 new Mario Wii games over the next year and a half? That's super special fudge brownie awesome!!
Hell yeah!! Excuse my language, but this is the flagship of Nintendo's E3 2009.
I guess I'll be the single voice of dissent, only because I hoped that the next Mario game would take place in a different setting. Trailer looked awesome, though, I'll give it that, but I'm much more excited for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Metroid: Other M, and Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.
EDIT: Dangit, how could I forget S&P 2? That game's second to the Conduit on my wishlist.

I thought it was the original when I first saw it on E3,
I'm happy for you guys but nothing has changed really from the first one other then adding Yoshi (whichis always a good thing).
ya it didnt look different to me either until i saw the yoshi lol
Yoshi did have a cameo in the first one didn't he? I seem to recall Mario rescuing him at some point in one of the bonus star quests; of course if you skipped the bonus stars you wouldn't have seen him...
Yes! Yoshi is back! And not in a spinoff, crappy or otherwise! SMW is my favorite Mario game, and the little green dinosaur is one of the reasons. Hopefully this will be just as good as SMG.
