In a recent interview with Reginald "Better Than Microsoft's Shane Kim" Fils-Aime on 1-UP.com's podcast he stated:
Interviewer: "In terms of us [North America] getting Wii Fit and Mario Kart after Europe, we're like, what's that about?"
GOD (Reggie): "Well, they don't get Smash Bros. 'til Fall, and they have to position these things ... It's more about hardware, in January when Smash Bros. and Wii Fit hit Japan, they got the lion's share of the 1.8m units they could produce every month, so in March, the U.S. will get the lion's share of the 1.8m units for Smash Bros. So in May, when Wii Fit hits, once again, they can re-allocate to America."
To me it makes perfect sense but to everyone else on the Internet - well you can imagine the reception of this news from the 12-year old forum goers who "only bought the Wii for Brawl".
All the same, good things come to those who wait and I'm happy to wait and enjoy Wii Fit and Mario Kart in the meantime. As for you guys, well that's up to you.
Update
1up have since clarified their information as reported here, so it's not as bad as you might think.

It seems you've already written off any arguments that conflict with your view, but how exactly does Wii Fit and Mario Kart compensate for a god-awful release date for Brawl? I won't be buying Wii Fit, as I have a have no interest in it, and Mario Kart is ok, but nothing on Brawl. Nintendo need to stop pissing off their consumers by clinging to crap release dates, poor excuses, and region-locking if they want to keep me as a customer. I love Nintendo, but lately, they need a firm foot up the ass.
It shouldn't be a case of giving MK and Wii Fit earlier to 'compensate'; they should be realising these are their biggest titles of the year, so they should produce enough copies for all regions, and do world-wide releases. It seems Nintendo just aren't learning, that, or success may have gone to their heads.
TwinCross, your right.. thats why I bought a US Wii
Nintendo really need to sort out releasing games worldwide.. it really shouldn't be that much of a problem these days, peh. Not good.
I still wish I imported a US Wii and this sort of thing wouldn't happen. I don't mind too much it isn't too hard to wait. Its not like there are a lack of games to play in the meantime (if you open you eyes).
I haven't got Zelda yet, if you just ignore all the initial hype its really easy and you can easily spread the brilliant games out; just like Nintendo plan to do.
And yeah region-free is a must for the next generation of consoles.
Oh man that is sucks for Europeans. I wonder why the deal and a huge one at that. I understand the fact that there needs be more hardware made, well in that case then Nintendo should have just made the Wii region-free...I am more that sure every gamer at one point wanted play a game but couldn't just because of the idiotic and archaic region-lock!
Twincross:
Europe has ALWAYS had to wait for games. I don't see why everyones not used to it yet.
The fact that we get Mario Kart and Wii Fit before the USA SHOULD please people. I'm merely mocking at the generic Internet go-er who simply cannot wait for games.
Of course I want Smash Bros. but if I have to wait there's nothing that I as a single entity can do to speed up the process. Nintendo know what they're doing.
Good things come to those who wait.
