Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door: Glitz Pit Guide - How To Get The Champ's Belt 1
Image: Nintendo Life

Glitzville and the Glitz Pit are the main settings of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door’s Chapter 3. During this story arc, Mario and his partner take on many opponents in a row and aim for the championship title. At the end of the road, Mario successfully becomes the champion of Glitzville and earns himself the Champ's Belt. That being said, Mario winds up returning the belt when he leaves the Glitz Pit at the end of Chapter 3.

Mario can go back to the Glitz Pit and work to reclaim his championship title and belt. Unfortunately, Jolene informs Mario that they’ve lost his records – which means he must start from the minor league once again.

If you’re looking to reclaim the Champ's Belt and earn some decent prize money along the way, we’ve got you covered with our list of enemies and rewards!

When can I enter the Glitz Pit?

You'll first enter the Glitz Pit as part of the main story in Chapter 3, 'Of Glitz and Glory'.

After you've completed Chapter 3, you can return to the Glitz Pit and reclaim your Belt whenever you please. To enter, simply talk to Jolene — who has replaced Grubba.

How to get the Champ's Belt

All you have to do is reach the top of the Glitz Pit rankings — that means winning every single fight.

As mentioned above, you'll first get the Belt during Chapter 3, but you'll hand it back when you leave Glitzville. To get it back, you have to re-enter the Glitz Pit.

What does the Champ's Belt do?

The Champ's Belt does absolutely nothing — it's simply a Key Item that sits in your inventory. So you just have it for bragging rights, basically.

Glitz Pit Fights

By the time you get back to the Glitz Pit, you’ll be at a much higher level than you were the first time around. If you go for the Championship Belt after beating the game’s final boss, some of the enemies here won’t even be able to damage you!

Glitz Pit is a great way to make money: in our run we managed to make somewhere around 250 Coins – not too bad! If you’re looking for some money-farming methods that work even better than this one, check out our money farming guide.

Most of the opponents here are as easy as beating them up with standard moves while fulfilling the condition Jolene gives you. Most of these conditions are easy, though some of them might take you out of your way a little. There are a few enemies who require a bit more strategy than the use of standard attacks, though, and we’ve listed those below.

Remember, you’re free to go all out with your FP – you can rest in the bed to recover your HP and FP for free after each match.

The Punk Rocks (Rank 13)

For this fight, flip The Punk Rocks all at once with Quake Hammer. While they’re upside-down, they’re left vulnerable to Jump attacks. Finish them off quickly to move to the next round.

The Armored Harriers (Rank 10)

The only way to damage the Armored Harriers is to use Yoshi’s Gulp attack, so make sure Yoshi is in your party. Then, use Gulp to take them down and move on to the next fight.

The Poker Faces (Rank 8)

The Poker Faces have a very simple solution — flip them both with Quake Hammer and you should be good to go!

The Koopinator (Rank 1)

The Koopinator can charge up to unleash a powerful shell attack. If you have Vivian out, you can use her Veil ability to completely avoid the attack. Otherwise, this should be a fairly straightforward fight as long as you’re sufficiently leveled.

Rawk Hawk (Champ)

Rawk Hawk has a decent damage output, even if you’re at a higher level. As long as you have at least one healing item, you should be good to go. When he hangs onto the ceiling, use Quake Hammer to knock him down. Rinse and repeat and you should win and become the Champ.
