Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: How To Defeat Grapple Beam Guardian

Welcome to another boss fight entry in our Metroid Prime 2 Full Walkthrough. Now we’ll be taking on the Grapple Guardian in Torvus Bog.

How the defeat the Grapple Guardian

The Grapple Guardian will have a bright eye and a soft spot on its tail as its weak points. As you can probably guess, you need to shoot it in the eye a few times to stagger it, then quickly get behind it to hit the soft spot to damage it. A large pillar of light in the middle of the arena can be used as cover whenever it retaliates.

After pulling off the combo, it will fire a beam of energy into the light pillar in the centre of the room, absorbing the energy and charging at you, causing some damage if you're too close. When it's covered in energy, it'll take more hits to the eye to stagger it, and its stagger period becomes a lot shorter. The Grapple Guardian boss fight isn't particularly hard; it's just a bit finicky on what counts as a hit sometimes with its awkward hitbox around its eye.

Reward for beating the Grapple Guardian

Keep up the eye and tail combo, and the Grapple Guardian will fall at your feet. Upon defeating it, you'll be rewarded with the Grapple Beam Suit Upgrade.
