Review Crystal Defenders R2 (WiiWare)
Does this second Crystal Defenders release bring enough new material to the table to warrant a look?
Whereas the Xbox Live Arcade and iPhone releases of Crystal Defenders came in one package, Square-Enix has chosen to split the WiiWare release into two separate parts. We've already seen Crystal Defenders R1 released on the service and now we've...

Crystal Defenders R2 News
Nintendo Download Crystal Defenders R2, Penguins & Friends, PiCOPiCT and Pop Superstar (EU)
Two WiiWare and two DSiWare titles for Europe this week.
It seems like there is no Virtual Console game this week. Last week, however, we thought there wasn't one either - Then it suddenly appeared on the Wii Shop half an hour later! Perhaps the same will happen this time. Crystal Defenders R2 isn't much of a surprise seeing as North America got it...
Nintendo Download Masks, Crystals, Chess and Art (US)
The 300th VC game joins two WiiWare games and a single DSiWare release.
Many people saw it coming - The amount of Virtual Console games available in North America was nearing 300, so it was logical to assume that Nintendo of America was saving Majora's Mask in order to make it game number 300. That turns out to be true - The Legend of Zelda:...
News Crystal Defenders R1 and R2 Coming to Europe Soon As Well!
Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands aren't enough - Square Enix wants complete WiiWare domination the next few weeks!
It's not just Taito properties that Square Enix will be releasing on WiiWare in April and May - They're also releasing the Final Fantasy spinoff Crystal Defenders, which comes in two parts - Crystal Defenders R1 and Crystal Defenders...
News ESRB Update: Four New WiiWare Games on the Way
The ESRB has updated with a whopping four new WiiWare ratings! Three of these games have already been released in Japan, but have now gotten their first sign of a release elsewhere. The other's quite a surprise!
Crystal Defenders R1 and Crystal Defenders R2 are the first two parts of Square's Crystal Defenders. As you might remember, the game was...
About The Game
It's a fight to the finish to save your valuable crystals!
In Crystal Defenders R2, you must deploy various units, such as Fencers and Black Mages, to stop waves of encroaching monsters from escaping the area with your party's crystals. There are many types of units to choose from: Some specialize in powerful short-range attacks, some wield far-reaching magicks and still others are equipped with bows, enabling them to bring down aerial foes. Deploy units in strategic locations to take full advantage of their traits. Each time an enemy breaches your defenses and reaches a map's exit, your party will lose crystals. When all your crystals are gone, the game is over.
Crystal Defenders R2 offers several new, challenging maps containing multiple entrances and exits. It also introduces three varieties of Power Crystals, allowing you to enhance the abilities of your units, while new jobs, including Flintlock and Tinker, set the stage for even more complex strategies. Can you defend all the maps without losing a single crystal?

Hmmm Interesting...
If Squire-Enix make the first one good enough I beleive I would download all three of the games
I doubt I'll get this one unless I find the first one really good and even then I'll be skeptical about spending another 1,000 Points for basically the same thing but with different modifications...
Each part is a whoopin' 1000 points? Oo
I bought the iPhone version (all 3 together) for a mere 6 Euro or something around that price...and that's for a portable version, hence one that IMHO is preferable.
I love this game I've had it on my Ipod Nano for a while and it gets played alot, even better it only cost about £5.
Just downloaded the Demo on XBLA today so i'll be checking that out later tonight
If the wii version brings any new gameplay or the controls enhance the experience I would even consider this, the price is off putting though.
The Wii version does have some improvements over the 360 version (at least R1 does) but the size evens things out.
What's the difference between this one and R1?
R1 is the first 13 introductory levels. it was designed to introduce the tower defence genre to new players. R2, as far as i know, will contain more advanced features and harder levels (though it'd better be more than 13).
As for those of us who do not have a 360, I liked this version over the ipod version just because the controls were easier and that tiny ipod screen is hard to concentrate on for too long <8o
I've heard that the ipod touch/iphone version is much better. anyone have that version and care to comment?
It'll be interesting to see how this stacks up against the original and how it's received by everyone, especially those that got the first one.
Nice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. "Much harder than R1" alone sounds like it's worth getting. I'm thinking of getting R2 and skipping R1 even though it's my first try.
Let me know how that works Knuckles, as essentially I would be doing the same thing as you, skipping R1 and going straight to R2.
It's worked out really well. I absolutely love the game and I don't regret it. I've been playing for over 3 hours and I'm only on the 6th area - I've been on that area for over an hour! It's really challenging and I'm glad I did what I did. I doubt R1 would be worth going back to now since I've been told it's not as challenging. If you want more impressions, feel free to ask.
Cool, thanks Knuckle. Yeah, I ended up just downloading this one, and am enjoying it immensely, probably my favorite tower defense game I've ever played so far.
ive never played anything like this before but its really good the only reason i didn't get R1 is because there was more jobs on this one and i heard from other people that this had more meat on its bones!!!
good choice me thinks:)
why doise it move so fast..
