Review Super Adventure Island (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)
Back to basics
The Adventure Island series started out with an almost exact clone of Wonder Boy, but as Wonder Boy became more of an action RPG rather than an action platformer, Adventure Island sequels stuck with the same formula as the first game and built upon it slightly with each release. In Adventure Island II and the later Adventure Island...

News Master Higgins Has Not One But Two Upcoming Virtual Console Games
Another Adventure Island game added to the queue
Only last month, we reported that the OFLC had rated the second NES outing of everybody's favourite overweight islander based on a real person, Master Higgins, thus very likely meaning it was on its way to Virtual Console. Well, the OFLC has struck again, and has rated yet another Adventure Island...
About The Game
Master Higgins is back for more awesome axe-chucking, skateboard-riding adventures!
Adventure Island is a mysterious and beautiful land that has many hidden dangers. As hero of the island, Master Higgins protects its inhabitants from many deadly creatures. He has restored peace to the uncharted island on many occasions.

The first Super Adventure Island game is decent, though I do have several reservations for it. I love Yuzo Koshiro's soundtrack in this game, and the visuals are quite nice.
@StarBoy91 Are there two Super Adventure Island on SNES ?
I often find it interesting how Master Higgins' mouth is shaped like a hook.
Well, just like the person he's based off of!
This friday in our continent.
I might buy this, my first VC purchase in ages.....
I love this game, the US got screwed on this one.
I should've gotten this before New Adventure Island. Compared to that game this ond is a bit of a let down. Master Higgins is too damn slow and there's no run button. In New Adventure Island, Master Higgins is quick and agile. Here he's a sluggish buffoon.
NAI almost plays like Bit.Trip Runner where you blaze through the levels full spead ahead. Sometimes you have to stop, but much of the game can be played by sprinting straight ahead and following the fruit as it pops up in front of you. That whole concept is lost here because the fruit is ever-present on the screen. It doesn't appear and then disappear like in NAI. It still provides with you a cue as to where to jump etc., but there's no kind of quick thinking or reacting involved, and something is lost because of that, I think.
Moreover, you can't even play it in the same manner because you only get nine lives to beat the game. Bah! It's still fun, but New Adventure Island it ain't.
