Review Mega Man 2 (Wii U eShop / NES)
The Blue Bomber jumps onto the GamePad
In 1987, Capcom released the original Mega Man. It was well-received by both gamers and critics, but it was not much of a financial success. Over the course of the next year, however, Mega Man 2 was developed as a labour of love by Keiji Inafune and his team, alongside other projects that were expected to be...

Can Mega Man save the world again?
Surprisingly, the original Mega Man (or Rockman, as the series is known in Japan) did not perform very well. Initially reluctant, Capcom allowed its creator Keiji Inafune to create a sequel as a side-project in his own spare time, however, and with the effort of a few colleagues and a lot of time, he created Mega...

Mega Man may have made his name on the NES, but one of the rarest and most desirable products to showcase his moniker isn't on a Nintendo system, but a Sega one. Mega Man: The Wily Wars (AKA: Rockman Mega World in Japan) arrived in 1994 but was only released physically in Europe and Japan; in...

Mega Man 2 has to rank as one of the best action platformers in the NES library, if not the entire genre. Video Take a Look at the Mega Man Cartoon that Never Was
Why did you change the look, Capcom?
For those of you that aren't old enough to remember, Capcom greenlit a brief Mega Man cartoon based on the classic series of games back in the mid 90's. The show was rather hit or miss, never hitting the heights of similar cartoons - like Ducktales or Darkwing Duck - and sporting a rather unattractive visual...
About The Game
Widely regarded by fans as one of the greatest action games of all time, Mega Man 2 is the second title in the seminal NES series. With even more stages and robot masters than the previous installment, its sheer size and scope are enough to get any action gamer’s heart palpitating.
The year is 200X. Dr. Light’s super-robot, Mega Man, has succeeded in smashing the evil ambition of the nefarious Dr. Wily, and peace reigns over the planet. However, Dr. Wily proves to be a hard man to keep down and has returned with a new army of robot masters in tow to challenge our hero. Can Mega Man save the world again?

Thank you Capcom
I can't wait to download this awesome game! Please give it 5 stars!
one of the greatest games of all time. this is one of the "perfect" mega man games alongside mega man 5 and mega man X and possibly mega man 3 (just my opinion of course). If you only get three or four megaman games, I would recommend those ones (megaman X being the best of the bunch and one of the greatest video games ever created). if you have an xbox or 360 or PS2, you should hunt down the Mega Man Anniversary Collection and likewise, the Mega Man X collection is also available for PS2. I pretty much bought a PS2 just for those two sets. Each set offers like 10 games (or thereabouts) for cheap (i got them both off of ebay for under 20 bucks US)...
i remember when this came out. it blew me away at the time. it was probably the greatest platformer next to metroid at the time. after nes and snes games started going for cheap, i built up an amazing collection of mega man games, only to have them all stolen... luckily the ps2 collections were released though. honestly, the ps2 collections are the way to go... they're much cheaper than buying each game individually for the virtual console. also, mega man 8, x4, x5, x6, the mega man fighting games and Battle & Chase are included in those collections and none of those games were ever released for any nintendo console as far as i know (though none are as fun as the originals in my humble opnion but i guess that's just the childhood nostalgia talking...). what i'm really hoping for is mega man 64 because i never actually got to play that one back in the day...
i'd say that the one and only complaint anyone could make about this game (when you compare it to other mega man nes games at least) is that you can't charge your weapon like you can in mm4 and higher. other than that, everything is pretty much amazing. great level design. fun bosses and some of the best music the nes had to offer (every now and then, i still hear dance mixes of the music from this game remixed by djs and stuff)... it's definitely worth the 5 bucks if you don't have as ps2...
this is also good because this means that capcom is still on track in releasing stuff for vc... i'm really hoping for gargoyle's quest 2 at some point in time
Actually, the GameCube also got Anniversary and X Collection, so you can play them on the Wii anyway if you live in the US or Japan. Europe and Australia didn't get either, as such those are also the only regions with Mega Man on VC.
oh yeah, forgot about that...
thing is, the button config on the game cube version of anniversary collection and X collection is really annoying though... i guess that's why i forgot it was around
Megaman 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. It was the game that really made me love the Megaman series. That's a awesome that this game is finally coming to the VC.
Oh, great! Mega Man 2 is already announced and we americans still don't have Mega Man yet.
The reason i think we europeans got it first is beacuse we did not get annevarsary collection nor x collection i mean the us/japan could get all of the games togheter on an gamecube disc and play it on wii for a cheaper price but we cant so what are you complaining about?
In the United States we did get Megaman Anniversery collection for the Game Cube. It had megaman 1-8 so I was excited when I got it because I enjoy the series. However the control system for the Game Cube is very frustrating. It makes the games hard to play and not as enjoyable. I wish they had an option to change the button configuartion. The virtual console will be similar to the NES two buttons, one for shooting and the other for jumping and that's why fans are excited. To feel and play how the game should be.
I've never been the biggest Mega Man fan - I dunno, the series always felt sorta repetative to me - but I do have fond memories of this game. It's well-designed, the sprites are beautifully drawn, and the action-platforming is totally solid. The theme from Flash Man's stage is probably my single favorite piece of music from an NES game. Looking forward to it.
yeah, the ps2 button config is the best for the anniversary collection. the controller just feels right...
I have no words to explain it's beauty...
Megaman 2 is IMHO the best - game - EVER!!!
Best Mega Man game ever. Period.
Wow finally. This is among the best, most atmospheric of the classic MM games though not as polished gameplay-wise as entries 3 and 5. There's a lot of trial & error, slowdown and IIRC you can get stuck in the last part of the game and have to restart if you're not careful with your ammo. The soundtrack is pretty much flawless though.
Forgot to add that some weapons are overpowered (metal razors?) while others are useless (leaf shield).
Mega Man 2 + 3 are never to be forgotten.
I Remember in 1992 i was searching christmas presents at home, and i found it O:) and played it to death. I even remember the password when going to wily with 9 energy tanks *smile* But that was part 3, part two...i was sooooooo glad when i defeated that dragon! lol.
Best Mega Man Game ever. Full stop.
Instead of having dozens of mega man games on my Wii and an empty pocket from purchasing them, I am going to get the Mega man collections for the GC.
Good grief you people that can't play the game on the Gamecube. Wimps, I had no trouble at all with the Anniversary collection using that controller.
Holy crap, the soundtrack is the best soundtrack in a video game EVER.
Mm.. Music of the first stage at the Dr. Wily's castle. *drool*
I'm a big fan of sidescrolling oldschool action games. (NES ninja gaidens, ghosts 'n goblins and sequels, splatterhouse 1 & 2 and so on..)
But I gotta say this just might be the best example of that "genre".
YES
Thank you Capcom, thank you Nintendo!
What a perfect start of the weekend!
Absolutely fabulous. Best game ever. One of the few reasons I bought the Wii. I might drop a few tears as I play this one..
Oh my god! It's finally here. This is the game i've been waiting for since the launch of the Virtual Console. This is IT right here. One piece of advice for the people that have never played this game, DOWNLOAD IT!!! (now all I need is GoldenEye, and i'm good to go xD)
One question though. Does it have that pesky slowdown like Megaman 1 did?
Only noticed slowdown on BubbleMan when bubbles bounced and we spammed pew pews
The slightly glitchy and half-awkward Megaman 3 might be extremely awesome otherwise, but to me, THIS is the definitive Mega Man.
The backstory about how Inafune insisted this game would be made and offering to work on it as he worked on a Capcom-Disney game...inspiring.
Advice needed... It's a toss up between, Mega Man 2, Super Metroid or Gunstar Hero's? Which one should I pick?
Super Metroid (if you never played it)
otherwise Megaman 2 if you like Action games
Gunstar hero's if you want a COÖP game
hope that helps you out =)
Super Metroid all the way, and then at a later time Mega man 2
@Whatever you called yourself, last poster...
As awesome as Mega Man 2 is, the most "game" of the three you mention is Super Metroid. I've had many discussions with my cuz about what game one should own if one had to choose 1 single game...I say I would choose Metroid 3. It's a complete mix of action and adventure, and it covers all aspects of the genres completely. I'm not gonna bore you with why SM is one of the absolutely best games ever made (though there's no such thing as "very best game ever"), but you'll get a whole lotta game if you buy SM. A whoooole lotta game. It's worth the extra points. But I insist you buy MM2 as soon as possible after SM!
Between those three, assuming you've never played any of them, I'd go with Super Metroid, which is one of the best games ever made for any system. Then MM2, which really is one of the pinnacles of NES action-platforming and a definitive game of the time. Gunstar Heroes would be third; it's a great game, but it's kind a niche action title for Treasure fans and its hyper-frantic pacing might not appeal to everyone.
I really wont to spend 500 points on this game! But is the level in the video hard, because the gameplay looks to fast for me, as a new player to the franchise, i really would like some help on this..
I'm just trying to show off in the video, you can take your time, and there's a few extra items I didn't show that you can use to make it easier. On top of that, the video shows the US version, the EU version is slightly slower due to conversion. (Also, don't rate games if you haven't played them!)
Here a good tip:
The Metal Blades (M), from Metal Man are totally overpowered and can easily defeat most normal enemies.
CURSES!!! CURSES ON EU!
j/p
One of the best NES games.
This game rocks
Man, always loved this Megaman game!
Own the original game on the NES, but would also be nice to have it on my Wii =)
Most people love the Dr. Wily castle theme, but I think Bubble Man's theme is the best. Wait, every song is awesome and it adds to the awesome, futurist atmosphere of the game. Add awesome level design, tight control, a ton of awesome weapons, memorable enemies and bosses, and adjustable difficulty. They don't make them like this anymore. A complete classic that honestly deserves all 5 of those stars. Only the 80s era and a mixture of bizarre circumstances could produce something so superb and unique.
EU has MM1 & MM2, yet The US has none except lame NeoGeo & Turbografx games they are trying to dish out & make a buck Nobody wants these games, we didn't want them when they where released in the 1st place. Why would we want them now?
The Megaman Anniversery collection for the Cube was crap. Inverted buttons, music fades after a while, removed the sound effects from the 2nd soundwave & added a stupid mode for new gamers. I waited months for it, played it one day & I just when back to playing them on my good ol NES.
Yes, this IS the best MM ever. I remember playing MM as a kid and liking it so-so, then MM2 came out and I had to try it. You can't help but fall in love with it. The music, design of stages, bosses, enemies, etc are all top-notch. If you get any MM for the from the NES era (or an MM game for that matter), this is the one.
Wow, This was my second non-emulator Megaman game(I hate emulators) and i gotta say that this one is much better than the first one! I really hope that Megaman´s 3,4,,5 and 6 are coming soon. I also hope that you Americans get Megaman games soon too.
Hard as a rock, but its really good fun - one of the better NES games out thus far on Virtual Console. And if you've not played anything from the Mega Man franchise before, this (not the first one) is the place to begin!
What the--? EU gets Mega Man 1 and 2 and NA get zip? I feel so...unappreciated...
Fellow NA'ers, quit whining. We get plenty of stuff first. Can't wait for this. This game is godly. The graphics, the music, the gameplay, perfect. You don't need any collection, just MM2 + 3, played with the Classic Controller.
This is my single favorite game of all time. I can remember the order I first beat the eight bosses. The stage select concept, along with acquiring the boss's weapon, was what made Mega Man stand out. In this one, the level design, music, and even that cool intro altogether made MM2 absolute magic. Brings tears to my eyes.
MM2>MM3>MM1>MM8
MMX>MMX4>MMX2>MMX3
IMHO.
Hmm is maga man really that good, it's still doesn't look like much to me
Mega Man II is AWESOME... Love this game, brings back some good old memories... When is Mega Man III comi´n??
Just the music makes this game great. I still have the cartridge and play it on my generation NEX. does anyone else have a NEX?
No. the nex is an awesome NES clone from messiah entertainment. go to playmessiah for more details. the thing Rocks!!!!!
great graphics, perfect difficulty, best sound...simply amazing!
This game reminds me of the good old days. It's amazing how challenging these games were and they are still as hard as always. Damn that crashman!!!!
mega man is pretty awesome. i never owned the NES versions of the games tho. i only have megaman X and megaman 8 for the ps1. i like X better and i plan on getting mega man 2 when it comes out in US.
HairyMike and anyone else in the US waiting for it to come out in the VC, I have a question...a BIG question!
Will this game be available to us living in North America? It's out in Europe, but will we ever get it? I've been on message boards where some have speculated that because we got the gamecube version of it that we might never get it for the Wii VC.
I hope that's not true because the gamecube version has been redone and is no longer representing the original form. Also, I just purchased 4 Wii-motes and don't want to have to get a gamecube controller. If anyone knows FOR A FACT or can tell me with compelling reason that Nintendo and Capcom are planning to release Megaman 2 (and also MM1 and MM3) for the Wii VC then please tell me (with reference) because it would be ashamed if this game didn't come out for the Wii VC.
Thanks!
I just don't get it. I bought this game and the musics are SLOW. I mean, the music was the most awesome thing in this game, and when I play it, the musics are so slow that the half of the fun is gone. Is this normal or is my game somewhat corrupted?
Why Isn't this game out in the US yet it's my Favorite Mega Man game to date and I still haven't been able to beat the last boss.
Please put this game out in its original form on the Wii VC!
I don't plan to get many VC games. This is one of the few games I plan to get so please make it available for download =)
Thank you,
Megaman 2 fan
I'll probably sell my Wii if they release MM3 before they release any of the MM games in the U.S. I bought this for the old school games not the new crap they are making & if they are not releasing good stuff from back in the day, why bother.
Betcha they probably won't release them all & just jump to the next console & let this die. Besides the Wii was only a gimmick that Nintendo was hoping might work & did.
one of the most completed NES games. get it now or sell your wii. 5/5
Even better than the first.
To: Capcom and Nintendo.
Bring this to America's VC channels, NOA.
I really wish the better version or mega man would come out on VC!!!
One of the top 5 games of all time. Period.
Please release Megaman 2 for the NA VC!!! Please stop releasing games like Crusin' USA (yawn). You know more people will buy Megaman 1, 2, or 3 than any of the VC releases that were announced all last month.
This is in my Top 10-list. Wily's Castle 1-2-, Woodman- and Metalman-musics are great. Gameplay is very good. Game is quite easy and only Wily's Castle level 4 is difficult. Even difficult-mode is easy. It is still good that the game isn't insane hard. Game's difficulty is maybe "normal". My favorite boss is Quickman. Favorite stages are Metalman, Woodman and Heatman. I hate Airman-stage but the music is good. Worst music is Wily's Castle 3-5. Its good but too simple and hypnotic.
This is, in my opinion, the BEST 8-Bit Megaman game, even better than Megaman 3.
And it certainly not that difficult, for a game on the NES and around Megaman anyway.
got this on ps2. want it here in NA on vc
ok first i will download it then i will rate it!!! hmmmmm lets seee,is it realy that good?
The best Mega Man ever, period!! Great gameplay, awesome music. My all time favourite Mega Man and one of my No.1 NES games.
I really really want this out on the US VC now. I have the Anniversary collection for the GC, but I would rather play it like an NES. (D-pad, plus 2 buttons)
Very fun game. You would be a fool not to get it when it comes out in NA.
This is an absolute must if you consider yourself a gamer.
There's an easy solution to the Gamecube control issue: Just get a Dual Shock 2 controller and a CG to DS2 adapter and play it that way. Problem solved!
Best megaman game ever
I LOVE IT
We all know Capcom is doing so good with Mega Man 9 and I was so delighted with all the decisions they took about that game, that I was going to buy Mega Man 9 even if I never played any of the previous games, nor a title from any of the alternative series; just to shout out: "Hey world, Capcom knows the way!".
So, victim of the hype I created by myself, I realized I was already in need of a Mega Man fix and so I downloaded this second episode.
I'm finding it very fun and interesting, and I already feel I want the first too.
Mega Man has just won another fan.
I've bought the Anniversary Collection as wel as the X Collection for my Gamecube (alongside a handy Freeloader disc:p) and Megaman 2 is just an awesome game. And for those who still want to play a Megaman game...Look for Megaman X on the SNES or pray that Capcom puts it on the Virtual Console, because it is an unspeakably good game.
I don't know what's better, this or startropics?
two different genres completely. only you can decide whether you like RPGs or platform shooters more.
i prefer RPGs, but i'm not sure which game will have me playing more. either way, i think i'll get megaman 2.
This game is a true classic! Not to be missed if you are new to NES games.
Best Mega Man game. I remember trying to play it at my neighbour's when I was something like eight years old, and it was IMPOSSIBLE. Especially the Quick Man stage (damn lasers). Now it took me about five hours to complete the game on both difficulties. Hmh.
I live in the States, so we didn't get this yet. Should I buy it in the Annivversery Collection or wait here? The only reason I don't pounce on the Collection is that the Wiimote is more like a NES controller. Any thoughts?
One of the best games of all time, period.
Bahamutzero, I have the PS2 version of the collection. It's great except for annoying load times on the main menu. The Gamecube version suffers from a bad button setup, unfortunately. I would still recommend the collection, though, since you're getting 8 games for like 20 bucks.
I never ever played Mega Man as a child, I don't think I even heard of it. But after playing Mega Man 2, boy was I missing out on my gaming childhood. I only wish I could go back in time and play them as a child as I probably would have enjoyed it even more. I love the games difficultly too. Thing that confuses me though is why USA hasn't got this yet.
The music sounds REALLY nice in the video.
I remember when I was younger and getting the Nintendo power issue with all of the Mega Man 2 screenshots. I remember being amazed at how vibrent and colorful the game was and huge enemy sprites are. Guts Dozer in Wiley's Castle nearly blew me away. Not to mention the giant dragon, angler fish, panthers and so forth. As good as the NP photos were, the game was even better! This is a must play on the NES!
I wonder how many more weeks before its out. I have my Wii Points ready for this game.
For some awsome reason the Megaman series has the most awsome music that I'd ever hear in a video. Okusenmen is the only reason I remembered megaman 2 or Dr.wilys castle theme, oneday it played in my head so I started playing the anniversary collection from 1-8 and found it in 2. I don't know if I could say this was the best MM game but it was very fun N easy. I'm a very big fan of the MM and MM X series (mainly MM X). But of all the games in the MM series I think MM 2 and 6 are the best. Of the MMX series The very best is Megaman X, the music was great, the game was fun, bosses enjoyable to own. Nothing more I could ask for. MMX music pwns!
I really can't wait for Megaman 9 to come to America! 9/30/08
But I only ask, why 8-bit. Hearing about Megaman 9 I wanted to feel like i'm play a whole new adventure, not MM 1-6 with a changed story line. I wanted something close to MM Legends but better.
@Taco_Human: I'm in the same situation as you. I have 800 points, and REALLY tempted to get Lolo 2. If this doesn't come out tomorrow (Monday), I'm going to blow. =]
I think one of the reasons why we all like this game so much (and most consider it the best in the series) if because of the quality of the bosses. Have you ever noticed how elemental they all are? You have fire (Heat Man), water (Bubble Man), earth (Wood Man), air (Air Man) and metal (Metal Man) and then you have lightning/speed (Quick Man) and ice/slow (Flash Man) and finally bombs/explosions (Crash Man). They are so iconic and they are the best versions of these elemental type characters. Pharoah Man has nothing on Quick Man.
I wish they would have resued these characters in other games, with updates pattens and levels. The only other bosses that had similar "cool" factors were the ones that either used similar iconic powers (such as Gravity Man or Magnet Man) or the animal based ones (like Snake Man). Mega Man's frustration as a series is that they keep repeating these elemental types, but to a lesser success. I think the next Mega Man (after Mega Man 9) could stand to see the likes of Mega Man 2 villains!
Well, there's only 2 more possible Mondays for this to release before Megaman 9 so I hope we get lucky next week. I don't wanna play Megaman 2 then MM9 the week right after. It won't be enough time to enjoy it.
0:52 - 1:02 (In the video): Oh, shiny fish.
Anyways, I might get this one, since the series eem interesting, but, then again, I would rather wait for Rockman 9, first.
Unless you live in Japan, Megaman 9 isn't coming to any of us in the USA. Of course, that's just the word right now. I don't know why they have taken so long releasing this classic. It's simply one of the best games out there still.
I got the GC Anniversary Collection, damn I hate those controls, but I can't afford to buy each megaman game separately, I better look for the PS2 version of the game, still if megaman 2 is really the best of them all I may download it some day.
YES! Mega Man 2 out today!
I feel good now!
Yay, we get this today! Good thing I got a points card yesterday.
This should be in every gamers collection. Get it any way you can.
QUESTION: Should you get this?
A. YES
B. NO
ANSWER: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
This is my cuestion for all megaman fans: is Megaman 2 the best megaman of the first series?
Most will say yes, but I say 3 is.
@Drake
Oh Really, then I'll wait for that one to be released before I make my choice, I only want one MM of the first series in my wii and I want the best, and you are like the 4th person that wrote they prefer MM3, thanks.
I bought this without thinking twice. The Gamecube MM collection controls like sliced ass. The classic controller is where it's at. Happy day!
very cool, VC is being very awesome lately
i hope it continues
The Gamecube collection does not control like ass. I have it, and it plays just as crappy as the old Nintendo version.
The Gamecube MMA collection doesn't control like ass, but it doesn't control like the old Nintendo version either, it's enough to enjoy the games but, for the classic feeling nothing like the wiiremote sideways, thats why I want at least one MM in my wii, but I haven't made up my mind.
Megaman fans: Which original NES Megaman is your favorite?
Out of all the classic Megamans, part 6 is probably my favorite. I like the bosses, they have a grittier feel to them, more realistic or something. But as far as playing the game, same as always.
There was a comment made about not being able to afford all 6 games individually, but I don't understand that. The Mega Man Anniversary hovers in between $15 (if you can find it) and $30.
Buying each game individually will cost you $30. You get the Wii remote for controls, you get the ability to save in-game whenever you like AND you get the convenience factor. I don't know about all of you, but switching my input over, booting up another machine, finding the disk, inserting the memory card and waiting for it all to come together is a little annoying. I'm not a lazy gamer per se, but there is a nice convenience factor about being able to just cycle through my game windows and selecting classic games from my Wii menu.
Of course, I spend almost all of my gaming time on my Wii. I play PS2 and Game Cube very rarely. For me, the download is a no-brainer.

I already own MMA collection for Gamecube, I play it in my wii, theres no input changing, and I always have a GC controller and memory card conected to my wii, it's as fast as playing any other wii game disc, still, I don't like the way it controls that much, thats why I want at least one MM for the VC, buying them all while having the collection, that I can't afford.
@Marvel_Maniac
How does it require switching machines or any of the like? MMAC is just putting a disc into the Wii. I like Twilight Crow just have my Memory Card and Wavebird plugged in to the Wii at all times and it requires no extra effort to just use the collection. Plus you get 3 more games in the collection that will NEVER come to the VC.
Two questions:
Why the 16 block difference between the US and Europe?
How hard is this game on a scale of one to ten (1 being Wii Sports on skill level 0 and 10 being Ikaruga/Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels/Super Smash Bros Brawl - Cruel Brawl mode)
@WiiloveitOnline
Well, I don't think SMB:TLL is as hard as Ikaruga or Cruel Brawl, and you must know I'm not very good at megaman games, but trying to match your scale I'll give MM2 an 8.
Ooh... I think I'll wait and see MM9 first, but thanks Twilight Crow!
This game isn't that hard.
Oh, and easily the best NES game on the VC.
I could play this game for hours.. and hours.. and hours.
If Mega Man 9 is half as good as this, tomorrow will be a great day.
@x.SuperMario.x
Ooh, you must be really good at this game, I've only played it on the MMAC for GC, I bet the VC version has better controls; to make a better judgement, how hard you'd say this game is compared to, lets see, my favorite, Ninja Gaiden?
I've never played Ninja Gaiden.
I need to fix that sometime!
@x.SuperMario.x
Yes you should, thats the game I could play for hours and hours; well, how hard compared to the hardest game you've played?
Well I can't beat Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to save my life.
Same with Soldier Blade.
I'd say Mega Man 2 is ten times easier than both of those games.
Oh, and if I'm buying a Ninja Gaiden game...
Which one is the best?
@x.SuperMario.x
Thankyou, that cleared everithing, now I really want to play this on VC.
The first Ninja Gaiden is very good, it's my favorite, I love the controls on this one, but the best is Ninja Gaiden 2, has better graphics, better dfficulty curve, and the stages vary more. I like the third one too, the best in graphics, but is too hard, and the controls and phisics change a bit.
I suggest to start with the first one, but if you only want one of them the second is alright.
Edit: Btw if you had to choose one megaman NES game would be this one?
I'd choose Mega Man 2.
It's not too hard, it has some nice levels, and it has some catchy tunes.
I think it's perfect.
And thanks, I think I'll download Ninja Gaiden 2 sometime soon.
My earlier comments about switiching machines and input, etc was directed at my Playstation 2.
I don't have a lot of Gamecube stuff (never has the system) and I really hate the controller so I can't speak to that particuar system.
I also own an NES but I don't have the thing set up on top of my Wii and Playstation 2. I love it but I don't want to go through all of the trouble of getting it going whenever I feel like a quick play. It's the same mentality as someone who wants their home theatre system all tied together in one remote control.
I LOVE the Virtual Console for that same reason, so, to go out and buy collctions of games and so forth that force me to use different systems (or even a collection where I'm ony interested in one or two games) seems useless to me. It's a personal choice, but I'm a huge champion of the convenience and delight that VC gaming brings me.
There.
I have no idea how you're supposed to get past the part in Wily's castle with the wall turrets. You have to use mines to blow them up but there is not enough ammo!
@ Final_Starman-
Do you know how certain energy capsules give your special weapon more ammo?
Well kill the robots before that room.
When you see an energy capsule drop, switch to your mine-weapon, and pick up the energy.
Do this until you have enough to go into the room, and destroy the remaining mines.
Definitely a good game, but I could never understand why people called it the best in the series. The bosses just felt cheap to me (Air Man, grrrrrrr). My favorite 8-bit Mega Man game game was Mega Man 3.
In the video for this game it shows the select stage screen that allows you to pick your stage. Well, what would happen if you clicked Dr. Willy and you have not beaten any other levels?
@Kaluba
It won't work. You have to beat all of the robot masters to enter Dr. Wily's Stage.
Ok. Thanks pikmin95. Oh, and in the Mega Man games can you pick stages in any order, or are they in a certain order.
@Kaluba
Any order you see fit.
Ok. Thanks again pikmin95!
Glad to help! =]
I downloaded it two days ago. 500 points is not that much for a high rated game. I´m interested in brandnew part 9, but first I wanted to check if I like the gameplay - never played the series.
Well, I was surprised how well playable this granny is. Til know I defeated four of the eight robots in a couple short sessions. It´s a really good game with a good composed soundtrack.
Mega Man 2 is one of my favorite games for the NES. Hands down, its got polish, its got style, and its hard. Some may think too hard, but if you keep at it, you will find its not as bad as you think. I downloaded this for nostalgia and to gear up for Mega Man 9. However, after hearing how tough MM9 is, I am not sure if I want to play that, because MM2 is the perfect difficulty. Anyways...looking for a fun and challenging platformer for only 500 wii points? Look no further than Mega Man 2!
Is this game easy on Normal mode compared to most platformers, or still rather difficult? Also, is Mega Man 3 easier than Mega Man 2, harder or around the same?
@134.soniczelda dude: Mega Man 1 is the hardest and sometimes unfair. Mega Man 2 is hard but possible you need a veteran player to complete those two. Mega Man 3 is possible for any other player, the difficulty rises but not at a huge pace like the first 2, so yes is easier and better soundtrack. May I suggest you start by killing off either Snake Man and/or Top Man which are the easiest. I find difficult are: Shadow Man (almost unpredictable) and Hard Man which does massive damage if you touch him.
A veteran?! Odd, because when I later downloaded Mega Man 2 I was able to beat Air Man and Bubble Man's stages on my second day with the game, despite having never played a Mega Man before (I have to admit though, I was playing on Normal).
By the way, Mega Man 2 totally has the best soundtrack!!
my first, last and only megaman game i had back then, couldnt afford MM3, which i also liked
i might buy this one later
i knew dr. wily's weakness, so was easy to do
not gonna tell, cuz thats spoiling the fun for others
was very nice game, so am thinking of buying on VC, cuz i dont have the nes cartridge anymore
Yesterday I made it through the Normal-Mode. My Wii-System told me, that I played it for five hours. Good game, but little easy on last level. Dr. Wily´s last appearance is quite ... uninspired.
Anyway, how hard is the Difficult-Mode in relation to Normal-Mode? Any clues?
Mega Man: one of the many games I missed out on when it originally came out because of parents who thought video games made your brain rot. Not even my cousins had it for their NESs. So besides Mega Man 64, Mega Man 2 is my first Mega Man game, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Like everyone before me, I thought the music and graphics were awesome, the gameplay was entertaining, and the control was fantastic (although it strangely took time to get used to). For those who worry about the difficulty setting, it isn't actually too bad (at least on normal mode) since you have unlimited continues and well-placed checkpoints.
This is certainly a good game to get. It doesn't change my views toward Mega Man 9, but I may consider purchasing Mega Man 3 at some point.
Weird, I managed to get up to the Dr Wily stages in just 1 day and this was in difficulty level, although i still haven't completed the game yet . A very good game but not as hard as people say it is.
@slangman: I agree with that. I´m thinking of loading part 3 because of the outstanding gameplay. This part 2 entertained me a lot for just 500 points.
Mega Man 2 is pretty dang sweet. Some NES titles don't have good music, but this one, dang...the tunes are just awesome. Also, the sound effects, while repetetive, are just classic. The game play is solid, and hardly sticky. I recommend it. It's worth the 500 points. It's also quite difficult. You have to work hard to beat it. It's awesome.
Next to Mega Man X, this is my favourite, X is slightly in the lead because i've actually finished it, but I will one day finish 2, one day.
Best music in a Nes game IMO, well definately on par with Final Fantasy.
Epic game.
Just beaten it. A really focussed, tightly-designed game that plays beautifully. And apart from the occasional - and forgivable - 'old skool' checkpoint frustrations, it's actually not quite as hard as it's cracked up to be...which suited me just fine. Along with Solomon's Key, the best 500 points I've spent.
An absolute must-have, alongside Megaman 3. Megaman 2 is a polished NES experience- not too too challenging, great music. MM3 is much harder imo, and the bosses and levels seem a bit darker. I wouldn't feel right not owning both titles- highly recommend.
10/10!
To the little blue guy who can blow holes in the world.
Why'd they have to release five sequels of Mega Man onto the NES? It only makes it longer to get to the SNES version.
Mega Man was a hugely popular franchise at the time, Capcom only moved to the SNES when the NES was well and truly dead. I hope we get MM4, 5 and 6 soon.
I hope Capcom didn't forget about mega man 4-7 lol
That has got to be the goofiest boxart I've seen in a long time, lol. I'll be getting this this summer.
Terrific music, great graphics, awesome gameplay, good challenge... not that all of this hasn't been said. Every bit as good as I remembered it. 8 out of 10
oh so good
WOW...this game is very good...playing it side by side with 9...lotto fun
Metal Man
Wood Man
Air Man
Crash Man
Flash Man
Quick Man
Bubble Man
Heat Man
That's the order I like to off the bosses, how bout all of you?
I prefer to take out FlashMan first, but my list is very similar to yours
MORAL: Never mess with Air Man; "he cannot be defeated".
@deggs I agree that Mega Man 2, 5, X, and 3 are the best on Nintendo platforms.
However, I prefer Mega Man X4 above the rest.
