I'm not the intended audience for Halo or Gears, but I don't think those games are cheap shovelware. I played Street Fighter II when I was six, kids are not stupid and they deserve better. The idea is so absurd it's not even funny.

****kids are not stupid and they deserve better.****

They desreve to play whatever they buy - like ANY of us. What a slippery slope, what is next?

1. Don't buy Windwaker, becasue we 'deserve better', dark 'realisitc' graphics?

2. Don't buy Excitebots, because we 'deserve better' wii speak support?

3. Don't buy Smash Brothers, because we 'deserve better' for playable charachters, like King K. Rool and Geno? (shudders)

Those are ideas that are so absurd as not to be funny - and I have had them thrown at me on the internet many times, of course I slapped them down...I could name dozens more, but in the end, we have to take care of ourselves, don't wii?

Hardcore, casual = marketing. The real divide is between arcade and narrative games.

The king of inaccurate analogies returns! Picking on popular games for minutiae like graphics, Wii Speak, or a couple characters isn't the same as saying that the entire concept of a game is poor.

But I agree that if people buy it, then that's their business. I wouldn't presume to know what people deserve. Still, no one has bought it yet, obviously, so that's not really relevant, either. I'll be curious to see how well this sells. I know a lot of uninteresting software sells on WiiWare, but this seems a bit too odd.

If this game sells well,I'm going to be pissed. The concept of this game is horrible to begin with. You cannot simulate a birthday party in a video game!

@eugene:

Wow, that's ridiculous. Those 3 games are fantastic, "It's My Birthday" will most likely suck. Wait and see (that's if you're even considering buying that title).

Don't buy It's My Birthday, because we 'deserve better', a game that's not the 3,457th minigame collection on Wii, and isn't based around events that can easily be replicated in real life?

Anyone who makes Wii puns like that deserve to be smacked upside the head.

eugenewrayburn

. Oh it 'will likely suck'

Yeah, and I don't even disagree.... So what? That just you and I's tastes. I have an 8 year old neice and she would probably love it, she loves all those horse and cow games on DS, ya know. And I think they suck. Big deal.

People thought WindWaker would suck prelaunch because of its graphics. Big deal.

Oh, and I do not own even 1 mingme collection. That your problem if you have 3000.....

Its a great analogy, you just can't follow it....don't assume everyone shares your tastes in gaming, don't assume games are neccesarily made with you and mind and quit being so judgemental, especially on unreleased games. Smack me in the head, I will punch you in the mouth.

Ask your self why you are so obssessed with a game you wil never play. You think everygame should or could be 'epic' or tailor made for you? Get a grip.

Oh and another thing. Notice how quickly that the opinion on one title becomes a morality play for the whole wii library? That totaly validates my arguments on emotional and political internet forums.....you judge a console on games that do not interest you, how mind boggling.....

if someone would give me 50$ and say to buy this game, i'd throw the money back to them

Is it a great analogy? I don't see how. We both agree that the game will suck (it's not about our tastes, shovelware is shovelware), yet you talk about 3 games that definitely don't suck and take the word "deserve" as an argument to prove that is fine to make crappy games. Great analogy indeed.

I don't see a morality play. One single person compared it to the Wii's huge library of mini-games, and even then he was completely unemotional about it. Why are you so obsessed with believing everyone but you is emotional about games?

eugenewrayburn

Adam, it is because a certain segment of this board continues to make topic after topic deriding and bemoaning games they will never play that were not made with their satisfaction in mind.

That is not logical, so it is emotional by default.

Hardcore, casual = marketing. The real divide is between arcade and narrative games.

Adam

Not really. You can discuss something you don't like without being emotional about it. I think the game will likely be pretty bad, and it will be a disappointing week when this comes out, but I'm not crying or asking someone to hold me. There is no "default." You shouldn't presume to know how people feel.

eugenewrayburn

If the release of My Birthday gives you a 'disapointing week', well, I think that says it all.....

And of course, your presumption is no one will like or want to buy this game.....you cannot escape from the common rule, if you hate something, don't you do it too - P. Jam

Hardcore, casual = marketing. The real divide is between arcade and narrative games.

Adam

What does that say, at all? It will not be a good week for me, but I'm not going to be depressed or anything. It will just be one more week with games I don't want. Big deal. Who here isn't used to that? You are trying to read too much into the most insignificant words.

And I never presumed that people won't buy it because I "hate" it (and for the record, how can I hate something I haven't played? I never said I hate it). I said I don't think it will sell well, but that's because I think it is a bit goofy for a game concept. There are many reasons you could think a game won't sell well other than personal "hatred." And if I'm wrong and it does sell well, great! Great for the publisher and great for those whom this game appeals to. Nothing wrong with that.

It's a completely unemotional stance. You're just making up things I haven't said now. Your obsession with trying to make everyone else seem emotional is disturbing and more than a little absurd.

Yap yap yap. If you don't like the idea of the topic, don't contribute to it. Let the people who want to discuss this speak. I don't think people really care for your approval as to whether or not a topic is valid, but they do care for you messing up threads with your complaining about what people want to talk about.

Contribute something meaningful, or don't contribute at all. Or, in a way that you would likely phrase it: If you don't like something, don't do it too - you can't escape the common rule Seriously, people are entitled to discuss this (I, for one, think it's a good thread), and it's annoying to have to filter through your destructive comments.

My goodness, that is the worst analogy I have ever heard. How can you compare that game to Wind Waker? If you don't agree with us,fine. Just don't go around trying to make people quit discussing about this game, because it isn't going to happen.

Well I am contributing meaningful comments. I am confused by the disconnect, between discusing games no one plans to buy verses not discussing games people here actually play. Forgive me, but it just seems like a 'my dad can beat up your little sister' ('s game) argument. Why not put the big boy games under the big boy microscope?

I really do not think I am being unconstructuve here - a forum should be about ALL veiws, and if you look at earlier comments, a good chunk of the people here DO agree with my argument.
