As far as Platformers go, I love them just as much as I did when i was kid. If anything I've grown out of most Fighting Franchises that I used to like back in the day. It's basically SSBros and Street Fighter for me, with a splash of Guilter Gear XX.
And yes, I'm sick and tired of the countless SCFI Post appocalyptic Grey and Brown shooters that reak havock on the PS3 and 360, but this is just a stale and typical arguement....Oh well! As I was saying, bald headed scruffy faced buff Commando's always seem to take the lead. To me there's NOTHING bad ass(like it's supposed to be) or exciting about it. Zero creativity is always expected with these titles as well and of course developers are trying to cash in on the Shooter craze and alot of them succeed. But hey, I'm definitly more in tune with the Retro semi-craze right now. We got Mega Man 9, Contra ReBirth, Castlevania ReBirth, Blaster Master Overdrive and Mega Man 10 on the way. And hey, these games offer more than different shades of brown and grey
Ristar the Shooting Star and DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure are both topnotch platformers, and two of my many favorite video games of all time.

Ahhh, i was guessing you were into Starfy based on your Avatar. I missed out on Ristar back in the day, and i downloaded Milion's Doki Doki a few months back on the SNES VC....and at first I liked it, but i grew tired of it once I passed Candy Land. It all starts to feel the same and doesn't have the level design, challenge and so on that the greatest platformers out there have to back it up.
Favorites: Beat-'em-up Fighting Shooting (except SHUMPS or whatever the acronym is) Other Action Games
Least Favorites: Simulations (not counting sports) Music/Rhythm Horror Stealth Puzzle Exercise (Like Wii Fit; exercising to play a true "game" like sports are fine.) Real-time strategy Really weird stuff only Japanese developers high on drugs can think of
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

So I take it you don't like Super Mario Bros.?
Super Mario Bros. is a mainstream platformer with a mainstream plot (maybe too mainstream) even if some of the characters are weird. I'm talking about stuff like Elite Beat Agents, or more recently, Tomena Sanner and Muscle March.

Super Mario Bros. involves a portly plumber saving a princess stolen by a giant turtle-dinosaur-dragon called Bowser. The plumber eats mushrooms to grow in size and collects flowers to breathe fire, and the only relation we see to his actual occupation is that he goes in and out of giant pipes littered throughout the world. He fights walking mushrooms, turtles, and various anthropomorphic animals. In his later adventures, he plays dress-up to various effects. Each time he reaches a castle, a toad-man tells him he's in the wrong castle. So much for a sense of direction. Bowser also has children who appear and disappear as needed.
Just the eating mushrooms to double in size part is absurd on its own. If that's not crazy then I don't know what is.

The latter two I can see, but how is Elite Beat Agents all that weird? Most of the stories seem to be pulled from Saturday Morning cartoon shows, and much of the style is based on Comic books and Manga. It does have a weird concept if you really think about it, but it doesn't come off as being that weird when you play it. Same with Super Mario Bros. When you think about it, it's one of the weirdest games out there, but when you play it, it's never really in-your-face about it the way, say, Muscle March is.
when it comes to the English language, you can't just put random capitols where ever you want. It dOesn't jUst lOOk weiRd, it's WRONG. Seriously man, my 8th grade English teacher would be freaking out right now if he saw your post. I mean, if it was just a typo, okay, but in this case, you're more or less rebelling against the conventions of the English language for no reason at all.
Putting "random capitols" around the place? The world is gonna get filled up with government buildings if we keep this pace up!
Super Mario Bros. has standard platforming gameplay with a standard "rescue the princess from the villian" story, and power-ups are are standard-fare in platformers and lots of other genres. How the enemies and powerups look and work doesn't make it that weird. Plenty of other games have enemies and powerups that look and have effects that are just as weird.
Elite Beat Agents has you using a weird gameplay system to help a government organization cheer on people to better accomplish everyday tasks. It's the weird premises and weird gameplay systems, which are also usually pretty dull gameplay systems, that I hate.

Yes, but Super Mario Bros. started all that. At the time, when these sorts of things haven't been done before, it would've been considered very weird.
