Hi guys. I hate to start yet another The Conduit thread, but after making a new profile to support Zapper usage to compare with the default controller setup, I had to share my opinion. I know, I know, lots of people HATE the Zapper, "useless shell," "kiddie toy," "I'll bet you use a tennis raquet attachment too," etc., etc. But all that aside, I think the game is SOOO much better with the Zapper. Or maybe more immersive, which in turn makes the experience better. For this game in particular, I like the feeling of holding an assault-style weapon. It's a little more difficult, sure but I play the game as more of a simulator than as a technical exercise in precision gaming. (I'll probably get my helmet handed to me in online play with this config, I'll admit it.)

I've got the controllers set up as follows:
D-pad up: ASE
D-pad left: Toggle weapon
D-pad right: Cycle grenade type
D-pad down: 180-degree turn
A: Jump
B: Target lock
(-): Crouch
(+): Zoom
1: Reload/Swap current weapon with found weapon
Z: Fire
C: Launch grenade
Wii remote forward motion: Melee attack (increase sensitivity to 90 or more)
Nunchuk shake: Pause (decrease sensitivity to 15 or less)

Your mileage may vary, but I really recommend you try it of you have a Zapper. Get past the hate and force yourself to play the first few levels with it. It's pretty freakin' awesome. Here's a tip: forget about the front handle of the Zapper, and instead hold the "barrel" in your hand so that your thumb rests on A and your middle finger is on B. To me, this setup has made an already outstanding game that much more so.

Let's hear your configs! Has anyone else customized their controls in a way they wouldn't play without?

And for the record? No, I don't use a tennis raquet attachment.

I play with the Drudge camera. It reminds me of House of the Dead and Whacked because of the movement (Whacked!) and the camera stays still. (HOTD) Everything else is pretty much normal.

Lolz.

I miss having a chatroom that was always in beta.

I switched reloading ( - ) with zoom ( D-pad down ) and melee ( + ) with the ASE ( wii remote thrust ). Now i can melee way better and reloading has never felt so close.

So far, all I've changed is putting zoom on the "C" button, and putting crouch on D-pad "down." All other default settings work well for me. My dead zone is as small as possible.

I've reduced my dead zone a bit and upped the turning speed.

For controls I've kept the default Ford layout except for swapping the gun switch and 180-turn functions (Rogue Trooper uses Up on the D-pad to switch guns so I prefer that). The disorientation from using the Wiimote thrust to melee is bothering me and I don't use the Z-target function (never did in Metroid Prime, either) so I'm thinking I'll set Z to jump and A to melee with targetting on Wiimote Thrust and just never used.

Was on the train, I scratched my head, and threw a grenade at my feet, death! But they won't let me swap the reload and grenade functions, which are the only ones I want to swap. I don't even bother with melee attack as I got fed up with fightin' to get the IR back on screen, ggrr!
But apart from those gripes I'm happy, I've got it pretty sensitive across the board and I don't even feel like I'm moving the wii-mote. Silky!

EDIT: Fixed all my issues now Wish every game would let you do this. Go HVS!

My dead zone is 300x300. I'm very happy with this setup. The ASE works really well on the nunchuck, kind of feels like you're lifting your hand to raise it. I use melee attacks so much it has to be on A. Saves me ammo, and I enjoy smacking little charging buggers down or in a pinch when reloading online.
