Yeh, people like that illusion of choice and also the fact you can just run around exploring without touching the stories but the games are glitchy as crap. That's what I'm saying, people don't play them for their technical polish, it's all about the open endedness of it all.
Well that was precisely what I was saying. In those games (glitches aside) you get the illusion of choice but little to no actual choice. Somehow older games like Fallout 1 and 2, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate and Daggerfall all gave you real choices that affected the story and world. And not just "good choice or evil choice" either, but true interactions with characters and circumstances that have a lasting impact on the world. That's real openness. Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 don't even compare. I'm surprised that people are willing to put up with sub-standard titles that don't match up with what was done over a decade ago.
Oh, I certainly agree with that. Choices are getting more and more hollow, and more transparent too but that's still why people like those games.

ohh, hmm, think you might enjoy Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales Of Graces (if its released in the US or EU), Xenoblade (again if it is or not released in US or EU) and The Last Story, which is being released in Japan on 27th January ^^
I just bought Sakura Wars and it's freaking awesome.
I bought it not too recently as well. This is the only strategy/dating sim game I've seen before (in english anyway). I really expected it to focus more on the strategy game part. I mean I was playing for an hour and a half before I got into my first fight. But I liked it once I got used to the pace of the game. It reminds me a little of Snatcher or Policenauts. I'm not sure how many old school RPG fans would go for it but I think this game is a must buy for any anime fan.
I just played Phantom Brave and I didn't like it that much. It's like Ogre Tactics but they make battles too complicated. Each phantom you put on the field can only exist for a few turns so you're always forced to rush the enemy. And that's not all you need to worry about, you also need to have a rock or a tree nearby to even summon any phantoms to fight. After all those rules you'd think there would be some advantage to fighting with phantoms as opposed to live people, but no. You still have Hp and Xp to worry about. Most of my money was all used up bringing phantoms back from 2nd death. Just too much micromanagement all around. The spineless main character didn't make me want to keep playing either.
@Koops3 If you're looking for ultimate graphics, I think the Wii is the wrong console...
The Last Story may be what you're looking for though. It has multiplayer. We have few details about the storyline so far, but it is shaping up to be good.
Got Eldar Saga for Wii. Anyone from Europe here still playing this? I'm a thief lv.12 now. I kinda like this game despite some little flaws. Completed 4 offline quests so far. Looking for people to play online with. I remember some of you talking about it earlier. My Eldar Saga Code: 4169-5054-2134
