Topic: Why no N64 Star Wars games for VC?

They released the Super Star Wars trilogy, why not release the N64 classics like Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron? Licensing obviously isn't any issue with Star Wars for the VC.

I don't think storage is that big of a deal. They have released games that require the expansion pak such as Zelda Majora's Mask. Games like Shadows of the Empire should be emulated with no problem for the VC.

Hmmm how about why no 3rd party VC games, ogre battle was published by nintendo in japan, but what about other like Mega Man 64?

The bigger problem here is why there aren't as many N64 VC games than there should be.

There aren't any storage issues. I checked Wikipedia and it says that none of them are over the memory limit. In fact, the only 64 games that are over 40 MBs are Resi 2 and Conker.

It seems like Nintendo are the only ones willing to release games. All of the other companies act like they just want to sweep N64 under the rug and pretend it never existed. The VC has been around since 2006 and still the N64 selection is pitifull. The longer this goes on the more annoyed I get. What is the freakin problem dammit!?

What is the problem? The memory pak, which many third party games relied upon, is not supported.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

I thought the PAL version of Paper Mario was also (since it's a multi-language game), though the Japanese and US versions were exactly 40 MB, as well as Ogre Battle 64.

guys, i think by now more people would realize that Ninty doesn't want the 64 supported as heavily as other consoles right now. if they just released all these things we're clammoring for, where's the VC money going to come from when they get the next console out. it's getting pretty apparent, they want to whet our appetites with 64, and then have a much bigger outing on the next iteration of the VC. i think that's why there're no 3rd party games. wait for the next console, and expect then the 64 to come out in full force (possibly alongside the Saturn and a couple other widely requested consoles).

That would make sense if we knew that a next console will be coming out. As of right now I havent heard anything about a new Nintendo console.

I would love to see Shadow of the Empires come out I missed that one when it came out on N64 but I would love to play it maybe I will just break down and buy a N64 since I traded mine in years ago for the GameCube.

The Biggest N64 Games Are Conker And Resident Evil 2 Both at 512 Mbit (64 MB) which isnt even a tenth of a GB,
i dont belive thats much a storage issue, considering the fact that you can use an SD card to store VC games...

@Tatsuki: there's not one officially announced as of now, no, but there's little question there will be another. Ninty (by which i mean big-mouth Miyamoto, of course) has even commented saying that as soon as one console is launched the next goes into production, and that they are currently working on the Wii's successor.

I think emulation would be the main issue here. I know that the N64 Star Wars games hardly work at all on most emu's, and LucasArts probably doesn't want to bother spending time and money getting them working.

Knux

The bigger problem is why the VC has been almost dead for quite awhile.

Angelic_Lapras_King

A) We only got Super Star Wars last year
B)N64 games are rare on the VC
C)Lucasarts might have other titles in mind, like their non-SW catalogue, or even the NES Star Wars games...

@bro2dragons
That's actually the best theory i've heard as to why not too many N64 VC games. Especially since we now know that the 3DS is going to have some N64 remakes.

Maybe the problem is that the N64 gets a lot of criticism and most of the good games were developed by Nintendo and Rare, and we all know the Rare issues. A lot of 64 games go for cheap in cartridge form these days so it may not be worth it to them, that they just wanted some of their trademark games available to a broad audience. I have no fact to back up my statement, it's just a thought.

At my local game store they have Episode 1 Racer and Shadows of the Empire complete in box for 6.99 a piece, I will probably pick them up.
