Topic: Why I respect Ubisoft!

Red Steel 2 is one of my anticipated games 0f 2010, it looks great, seems to make good use of WM+ and takes FPS into an interesting direction, but one thing I've noticed on regular visits to gaming sites to quench my thirst for game footage is the amount of people complaining about the games lack of blood. Many complain that without blood this game will suck, is not realistic and of poor quality, some have even gone so far as to say they will pass on this game because it doesn't have blood, ridiculous I know!

Anyway I just wanted to extend my gratitude and respect to Ubisoft for their recent work on the Wii and their sticking to their guns with regards to blood in RS2 and I was wondering if any of you guys felt the same? BTW I will definitly be supporting this game with my £££ when it releases!

I've been playing video games since the NES era and would describe myself as a "no-blood gamer" (self-given title lol), I've grown up with games like Zelda, Metroid, Metal Gear Solid, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and Street Fighter and I'm just not used to blood in games, it seems alien to me. I no its an extreme view but I think blood makes games too real and too graphic and often goes against what real gaming is about escapism. I don't want to horrifically murder people when I play a game. This is one of the reasons I love the Wii as it encourages game designers to stray away from "gore filled blood fests" and makes them try new and interesting things.

Thoughts please!

Myself, I love gore in games. Chainsawing someone in half in Gears of War is a blast, as is slowly chopping up the enemies piece by bloody piece in Dead Space. Gore or the lack of doesn't affect the quality of a title in most cases for me. I would hate to see games go back to their Nintendo era days when it comes to the topic, though.

I don't mind blood and violence, but I do mind ugly enemies. Whenever I see an ugly enemy coming, I panic and waste all my ammo in them. Seems like every time aliens attack, they always look hideous. You wonder how they survived as a species if all members look like that. Why can't the attacking aliens ever look like swimsuit models and cuddly kittens? Then I'd be able to play.

Now Playing: Bioshock

Thats an interesting point you make there, especially about things going back to Nintendo era days as I really wish gaming would go back to those days but keep today's technology I would love to see HD Zelda or Megaman but its shame that there isn't much of a market for these games on the ps360

I love it as long as it suits the game, I mean, I dont think id like to see blood in a Mario game for example.

I definitely agree there, even though bloody games don't really appeal to me I can appreciate its artistic value where needed e.g no more heroes + madworld. I think blood in games limits a games accessibility though and shouldn't gaming be inclusive, I think bloody games should be a niche like B-movies, not the standard.

I played Red Steel One. A mess. Plain and simple, a mess.

That and Blazing Angels. Not a horrible game, but the exploitation of the war and the hideous story/voice acting was sickening.

I do not have much respect for Ubisoft.

Adam Cartwright: Education is progress! Now what have you got against it?
Ben Cartwright: I don't have anything against education - as long as it doesn't interfere with your thinking!

Blood in video games? I care more about Action 52.

I personally hate Ubisoft. Sure, they might put some good stuff on the Wii, but the rest are crapfests.

I don't like murder and death and blood in my games, either. (I do play Halo, but that is unreallistic enough.) I mean, murder and blood is always all over the news, and deaths...it depresses me. Games are supposed to be fun, and chopping off somebody's head isn't my cup of tea. (Or Bottle of Pepsi). I would much rather have my games take me to a different world.

Was more thinking about their recent releases and efforts on Wii e.g. Shaun White Snowboarding 1 + 2 (which is looking great), Academy of Champions (an overlooked gem), Turtles Smash Up (a Smash Bros clone but also a stand up effort), Red Steel 2 (which is looking great) and Rabbids Go home (also looking great and interesting). Unlike many companies they have taken the time to produce a strong Wii engine (the LYN engine) which allows them to create great looking and interesting games on the Wii's hardware, in a generation where the Wii is still being treated poorly by third parties this action deserves my respect and support. We should give a company a chance to reform especially if they are genuinely trying.

Yeah was focussing on their Wii efforts as I don't really know whats going on on the other systems and also them not giving in to peer pressure regarding the blood issue. I totally get what you mean about blood & murder being depressing though. I much prefer my games fun and escapist.

I wasn't referring to EVERY Ubisoft game, their not Nintendo lol BUT I was looking specifically at their response to peer pressure regarding Red Steel 2. Also No More Heroes had an edited version and Desperate Struggle will release in two versions also.

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins and Anno: Create a New World pretty much solidify their reputation for me. This game looks like it'll be a hoot.
