What happened? I just discovered the great library, and am planning to DL it on the wii U next month, but then I found out the last game came out in 2009! Why haven't they put out other classics like Winter games and Bubble Bobble? Or some other games? I just hope those games don't get removed anytime soon because of this...
But why did they stop?

I've wondered if they stopped after the Last Ninja 3 debacle.
(if you don't remember, it was released in Europe but the game's original copy-protection wasn't emulated so the game would freeze after the first level.
It was quite awhile and took a bit of prodding from some consumers to get Nintendo to pull it and give buyers their Wii Points back.)
So why can't another publisher take over for Commodore gaming? Regardless, i hope the games that are on the wii VC don't get removed.
My guess is companies don't see potential profit in releasing C64 games on the VC. I've got 5 of the 9 C64 games on the NA VC, and I've considered getting the other 4 just to complete the set. I do wish some of the other C64 games Europe has would come to America, such as Paradroid, Impossible Mission and Uridium, but that probably won't happen. Honestly, I could see these games getting pulled from the service, so if you are interested in any of them, it might be a good time to pick them up.
The biggest problem with C64 games is in my opinion that they almost all lack a password- or save-system. And the Wii's suspension save doesn't help if you don't have unlimited continues which rarely is the case.

There are many NES games like that too.
I think the save states from the 3DS VC has spoiled us.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
Sadly I have to wait for the wii u as my grandma has wonderful logic where I have to "Wait till christmas" Even though it's 2 months away. AND I HAVE THE MONEY.
Since she will let me buy a wii U basic (Without preordering thanks to her ideas) and some games, that would be the only time I could buy the games, which worries me.

One other bad thing about the C64 VC games is they had a lot of emulation problems, particularly Mayhem in Monsterland. I'm guessing this is due to the fact that Commodore Gaming were the only people working to get C64 games up and they had a small team and limited resources. I thought the virtual keyboard was a neat feature, but I kinda wish you could plug in a real keyboard to play with.
EDIT: I also wish you had access to the BASIC boot up screen. There were codes you could type in before the game loads up in some games. Either that or give us the option to enter the codes in another way.
Wait a minute, you couldn't use controllers? Even if the only
game I really want is Boulder Dash, it would be weird to not use a controller. I don't know anyone who would gift it to me anyway, so I'm crossing my fingers and praying that they will be there when wii U comes out.
When DID Commodore gaming close?

Yes, you can use controllers. Some C64 games required keyboards and for those situations they let you use a virtual keyboard on the VC games. Unless you have to enter your name in, Boulder Dash probably doesn't use that.
Good. Because I spent hours on a BD clone when I was little, so you don't even know how desperate I am to get one of these games, whether a gift or as a game. But considering how I can't stop worrying over it, I don't even know!

Yes, unfortunately there are many NES games that don't have a password/save-system. But there are also many that have one (at least among those I've played): Metroid, Zelda, Adventures of Lolo 1 + 2 + 3, Castlevania 2 + 3, StarTropics 1 + 2, Mega Man 2, Gargoyle's Quest II.
On the C64 I don't remember a single game that has a password/save-system. (Except for the Lucas Arts Adventures (Maniac Mansion and Zak McCracken) and some other text/graphic adventures, simulations and RPGs (e.g. The Bard's Tale, Pirates, Elite...)).
But on the whole, i quess there are only ~1-2% of the C64 games that have this luxury.
And there's another reason why I think not more C64 games are on the VC: You absolutely can't play them with the WiiRemote or the Classic Controller. Most C64 games are designed to be played with a digital 4-direction joystick with leaf/micro-switches. For example many Jump'n'Run games use the UP direction to jump. Or some games like Wizball or Winter Games require the player to wiggle the joystick left/right. This is totally awkward on a D-Pad. (Even the analog sticks in the Classic Controller are not suitable for this imho.)
When child i had never know the C64 so the VC is a great way to know this games. I think its games needs to be cheaper (300 points is ok) and it needs the games that Europe has but America not.
Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.
