You're not crazy, I enjoyed those too. With the exception of the purple coins.

What I'd like from SMG2, is for a large Fly Fish to appear as an early boss. He'd be easy to beat, you'd just need to redirect 10 Bullet Bills into his face. That'd be fun.

I did not mean to jump to conclusions. I simply thought that when you said you liked the comets, you meant all the different types of comets, including the purple comets. In fact, I enjoyed some of the comets, espectially the ones where you got to race a copy of yourself.

I do in fact like all the comets, including purple coins, but for someone to think the comets are the best part of the game doesn't automatically mean all five types of comets. One or two purple coin stars were a bit frustrating, but I'd rather be frustrated than bored, which describes most of the game beyond the comets and the single-star galaxies. I much rather the race and time limit comets though. Single-health comets were a good concept, but the game is too easy for it to have any effect. Single-health should have been the condition for the entire game, not just the occasional comet.

Woah! Not a condition for the entire game!

And yet, judging by your avatar, you're enjoying NSMB Wii, which works just the same. I don't see the need for the 3D Mario to be different. The Super Guide could fix any complaints about difficulty.

The thing about the comets that irked me was that the timer kept going after you completed the challenge; forcing you to race to get the star afterwards. That felt unfair.

Well then I'd hope they introduce a system so that Mario doesn't always die on contact with an enemy (i.e. "layers" of protection like the Super Mushroom and Fire Flower).

Adam

Exactly, Od. That's what I wish they'd done from the start. It always felt odd that they took this away for the 3D ones. To me that is a distinguishing feature of Mario games. I understand some changes were made for the sake of adapting to a new environment, but I don't see what the health system has to do with the third dimension specifically.

I just want SMG2 to be more difficult, and Luigi to remain playable. I bet this game is going to be the best Mario game ever, so what else could I ask for?

Assuming you don't mean the "co-op" Galaxy already featured... How would that work? I think it would be more practical to implement 2P alternating, which is very fun in its own right. If you have Luigi on the same screen and one player jumps to the opposite side of a planet, what on earth is the camera supposed to do? If they can manage splitscreen somehow, more power to Nintendo, but I don't see there being enough room on-screen for two viewpoints, much less enough horsepower in the Wii to run it.

Edit: If you qualified that as best 3D Mario, I'd be inclined to agree with you Luigi. NSMB Wii has really made me a lot more optimistic about Nintendo's treatment of Mario. Of course, it's not the same team making each game, so maybe I shouldn't get too excited, but at least I can trust Miyamoto means it when he says a game is going to be more difficult.

I hope they include the Purple Coin challenges again. Purple Coins on Battlerock and Luigi's Purple Coins were two of the best stars in the game. There were a couple of others that weren't so great (specifically the long ones) but it really would have been a much worse game without it. By my definition a good game challenges you and is frustratingly difficult but forces you to put the blame in your ability to play the game and not the game itself. The Purple Coin Challenges did that ridiculously well I thought.

If there was one type of level that I don't want to see again. Its probably the second garbage cleaning level.... you know, the one where you have to destroy all the garbage with bombs. Grrrr!
