I received this game for Christmas and decided to play it, but first I decided to read some reviews. Never playing the series I was going into researching the game blindly and have found not a thread of kind word for this title. I enjoy chasing the proverbial golden carrot in games where I have to grind for exp and search for better loot, so I am going to give it a shot.
So I guess my question is "Is it that bad?"

I' m wondering the same, I'm willing to try anything really. I doubt its as bad as they say, it kinda makes me think of the old Hardcore RPG's like the original Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior. I'd say go ahead and give it the shot. Most reviewers tend to downplay games just because they compare it to everything else or their tired or reviewing the same type of game over and over again and if theres nothing special or is a minimal franchise they usually write it off.
I rented it and it was the worst piece of that I ever played. Its got N64 graphics and the combat is actrocious. And dont get me started on the noise you walk(shivers) believe me, you do not want to play it
All I know is that the walking noise is funny as heck. It brings back memories of Monty Python and the Holy Grail =P
