77% and 81% are good scores though, and at IMO way too high for SPM, the single most disappointing Mario I have ever played.

I'm still not getting it. It's the same game, only with Yoshi added and a linear map. Let me know when they come up with something different.

The visuals, gameplay, and overall theme are identical to the first game. That's why I'm not getting it.

I unintentionally clicked the Report button instead of the Quote on this StarFox's post, so please ignore it, there's nothing to be reported.

Back on topic, i get your point, but judging by the footage shown 'till now, i believe that the gameplay is much improved and that reason alone is enough for me to get the game.

It's not like Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the first game to use the engine from its predecessor. It looks like they've really done a lot to expand the game and add more challenges to it, that's the important thing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (just spend the extra time you have now making it that much better)!

If you liked the first game and aren't getting it for that reason alone, you're missing out. It's like not getting Galaxy 1, because every level used the same engine.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Surprise surprise, a Nintendo magazine gave Mario a good review.

Mario Party 8 68%
NPC Mario Power Tennis 77%
Super Paper Mario 81%

etc

Not one to stick up for ONM like.....its just that you're wrong.

How is 81 not a good review? 77 is decent, and 68 isn't bad, just not good either.
And let me rephrase that for what I actually meant.
Surprise surprise, a Nintendo magazine gave a Mario game in the main series a good review.

Super Paper Mario metacritic rating was 85%. Paper Mario is a major series as far as ONM are concerned.

Also DK Jungle Beat got a 75% whereas as NL gave it a deserved 9/10.

It may be just that the game is good y'know....

Coming from the fella who bought Sega All Star Racing on both DS and Wii? Also, don't you want a whole raft of GC games with wii waggle? Wii controls don't always improve a game (eg. NPC Mario Power Tennis). Did you never get Super Mario Bros 1 and 3? Or more than one DK Country game?

Well, that's because every game in the main series just so happens to be stellar. Its not like this will be the only source giving this game an excellent review. And honestly, wouldn't you be shocked if this game didnt get a favourable review from any reviewer out there?

Considering that reviews are usually a no go on games that are too similar to their predecessors, no. Don't get me wrong, I'm getting this game, but Nintendo giving their own game a great shouldn't really make people excited, even if it sucks, they are gonna say it's the best game ever.

I strongly disagree with the final paragraph. They'd hammer the game if it sucked as you say. But hey, your opinion is respected. I've even heard one r two perculiar ppl say the same thing about NL merely because its a site dedicated to Nintendo software and hardware. That's b#ll#cks too.

The reason I put this up is that its the first revw of the game out there and its turned out to be a great game.

It's called a sequel. It's supposed to be like that, but with more levels and powerups. Guess what? We got exactly that.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Of course!
Thats why its called "Super Mario Galaxy 2.
If you don't like sequels fair enough but that does not mean you shouldn't buy them.

For example, new levels and new gameplay mechanics.

Ordinarily I'd agree, however in this case I'd suggest that 'more of the same' is about the highest praise one could offer, given the absurdly high standard of game that SMG is.

See also: God Of War and God of War II, essentially the same game, both AWESOME.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is very different from the first game.
I do have the entire DKC trilogy. Yes, it's essentially the same game, but with different characters.
I've had all the Pokemon handhelds up to Diamond, but I gave up due to redundancy and lack of interest.
Having Sonic Racing on the DS and on the Wii is different from having two similar games on the Wii.
I also got Super ESB since I had the first game on the SNES, DKC3 to complete the series (I have the first two on the SNES), and a couple Sonic games (8-bit and 16-bit, notably different).
I also have Majora's Mask, but it's very different from OoT.

All I can see that's different in SMG2 is:
1. Yoshi
2. New powerups
3. A linear map

That's about like getting Sonic 2 after already having Sonic 1 (for the same system, mind you).

some of the reviewers have noted that there's a lot more beneath the surface, in terms of more avant garde level design and difficulty, that separates this game from the first. i wouldn't judge it as a clone until you play it.

i passed the first game on a rental without getting any more stars than were required, so i always felt like i didn't give it a full run but didn't want to buy something i'd already basically passed, so this sequel is perfect for me even if it is more of the same.

I know I have'nt played it but I can tell from the trailers that smg2 id nowhere near as similar as the handheld pokemon games, they have hardly any differences.

The_Ink_Pit_Ox

OK, just saw this, and it looks nothing like the first game!
