Here's something I find strange - most of the people I know who have both Super Mario Galaxy and Sunshine say they prefer sunshine. Why do I find it strange? Because it's plain to see that galaxy is superior in almost every way. Don't get me wrong though, sunshine is one hell of a game and I really enjoyed it, and I appreciate that some people prefer the warm and joyful glow that it gives off, whereas I prefer the fact that galaxy is probably the darkest game in the series. Not saying that galaxy doesn't have a warm and joyful glow because it definately does, but sunshines glow is much stronger. Well that's my opinion anyway, and in short, space is much cooler than Isle Delfino and Super Mario Galaxy is nothing short of a masterpiece, whereas Sunshine doesn't quite live up to that status. Agree or disagree?
EDIT - Please ignore the fact that i've accidently placed this topic in the VC channel. My mind's gone all special, you see.
Currently playing: Wii + GC - House of the dead: overkill, Guitar hero world tour, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Eternal darkness: sanitys requiem DS - Final fantasy 4, Rhythm paradise, Pokemon platinum, GTA:CTW. VC + WiiWare - Icarian, Lostwinds, Zelda: Maj..
I have both Sunshine and Galaxy, and Galaxy is so much better than Sunshine it's almost laughable. Sunshine was nice, but can it compare to the greatest game this generation IMO? Not a chance.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I prefer Super Mario Sunshine because it was long- much, much longer than Super Mario Galaxy. Galaxy is a little too linear, which makes it a bit too easy for me. The exploring aspect is gone a bit.
In Sunshine there were not only stars to collect, there were also blue coins. It was like every little hidden blue coin was worth a star (and they were, because you had to find all blue coins to get 120 stars.) And I just loved to explore the stages to find blue coins in places I could never imagine. It took me some months to complete Sunshine, whereas Galaxy was maybe 7 days for me to get all 241 stars.
In the end I prefer a more challenging and longer Mario game, but I liked Galaxy too.
I personally think Galaxy is miles ahead of Sunshine in terms of level designs and difficulty curve. Sunshine felt like more of a Super Mario spinoff than an actual Super Mario title to me. Good game, but nowhere in the same league as Galaxy.
I really did not enjoy Sunshine that much though in its time it was still better than the other platforming games during the last generation. But, I prefer Galaxy in almost every way. Thats just my opinion though and I am sure theres others that disagree.
I enjoyed both, but I'm going to give a sizeable nod to SMG.

I completely agree.
