One of the relatively familiar cases of Japanese artwork surpassing Western artwork. Mr. X sure looks scary in the background. O_O I just noticed something! Look at the bottommost screen capture! I don't recall a merry go round in the Amusement Park stage!!!!
Possibly, I would have to play the game through again to see.
I would just like to say that as awesome as the Streets of Rage games were I will always remember how annoyed I would be when at a tense moment I hit the A button by mistake and wasted my special, I still do it to this day !!!
I just played through some Streets of Rage 2, and it has been confirmed: That...whatever it is in the background does appear in stage 3. I just forgot about it. Funny how I never paid attention to that background detail. False alarm. Mystery solved.
You just gave me an idea, gren. Now, whenever I play Streets of Rage 3 and read Mr. X's lines, I'll use the Arnold Schwarzennegger accent. Brilliant! Axel: "Mr. X!" Mr. X: "Welkham to mah haambahl ahbode. Ah haav bien expecting you for some tahme. So, tell me, Ahksel, what kept you?"
Yeah, the 'Streets of Rage 2' cart flips to 'Bare Knuckle 2' according to to region so it should be the very same game. Weirdly, if you want to force the PAL version into 60Hz you also have to change the region to Japan or it wont play. Now, Streets of Rage 3 of course is quite different in the Japanese version...
