I'm interested to hear how the tournament mode works.

It's essentially free play. The main game has you select a "Zone" of 10 matches, which you then play in order to advance to the next zone. Tournament lets you either pick out or play at random a preset number of rounds (5, 10, 25 or 50), and can be played with two players simultaneous or solo, as in the main game. The review explained everything there is to it, so I'm sorry I can't go any more in-depth than it already did. There isn't any competitive play or such as the name might have you expect, you just ... pick out some stages and play them.

EDIT: Of course, as in any Free Play mode, you're restricted to the stages you've already unlocked (or ones you've designed yourself, of course).

Thanks for the info. I thought tournament might be some sort of head to head competition or first to score a goal on a particular level advances.
