Topic: Shop Channel's Starting Page Altered

Just noticed this. There are arrows on that page that change to different "Recommended Titles" themes. They include one for female gamers, one for party games, one for sports and one for critically acclaimed games. It looks pretty nice.

Edit: Both "Search by publisher" pages were edited as well. All company logo's were removed!

One for female gamers? Is skeptical about the wisdom of such a crass generalization.

That does sound pretty nice, though. I wonder how they managed to sneak that update in without telling us...?

I'm also skeptical about this category being at all helpful for anyone. I'm sort of tired of women being seen as a "special category" who can't play games everyone else enjoys. I mean, how are guys supposed to know what games they like?

Also, how will games be chosen (assuming they're using Ninty channel surveys)? Will it be the games ranked highly by the largest number of females, or games ranked highly by exclusively females? For example: Probably tens of thousands of females have responded that they enjoy Mario Kart. However, guys also enjoy it. It's probably about a 50/50 split. On the other hand, for a game like Imagine: Petz Fashion Teacher, maybe a couple hundred little girls ranked that they loved it and like 3 dudes. For most women, Mario Kart would provide more enjoyment, but will it not be on the list just because a lot of guys like it too? For most women over age 8, anything with imagine or a cute noun ending with z instead of s would not be a worthwhile purchase. I hope they go by numbers of women enjoying the game and not proportion of females/males enjoying the game.

It's nice to see they're using the Nintendo Channel surveys. At least that's where I'm assuming they get this info from (gender, do you play alone or with friends - party). Wouldn't it be convenient if those were linked/the same as Club Nintendo surveys. Then you could fill out fewer. Just a thought.

It might of been for Eu at least, when they closed the shops on Friday.

I have to say that particular category has some pretty interesting selections. Super Mario Bros., Sonic The Hedgehog, Frogger Returns and Yoshi's Story just to name a few.

Waitaminute...are you saying that list is for the FEMALE catagory? Awesome.

Yeah, but they also have some that would seem more typical, such as Bonsai Barber, The Amazing Brain Train!, Flowerworks and Word Searcher.

Hey, as long as they've got some classics like those listed, I can't complain. It could've easily been nothing BUT drivel.
