OK, not really. But the game apparently isn't targeted at core gamers. In a recent interview with Takashi Iizuka of SEGA: GAME: One of the main criticisms of Sonic is often that it's so fast, sometimes people don't fully feel in control. How do you address that, given that Sonic is a series based around speed?
TI: We know there are sometimes opinions about control from core gamers, but we're intending Sonic Colours to be played by children of probably between six and twelve years-old.
So, with Sonic Colours we have aimed more to make a game that everyone can control and have fun in. So, it's not really a game for the core gamers. If you take the rail grind, it's something that's fast, not difficult but is fun to do and looks great. It's about making a game that's right for the core audience of the game.
At least it's not going to be so toned down that it will look like a Sega Pico game (now THOSE are for young children). I was able to play old challenging Sonic games at age twelve, so this might not be too bad. Still, I'm starting to feel a bit concerned about Sonic Colors. If all else fails, I'll get the DS version (or no version at all).
I don't really care if it's intended for young kids, I'll still probably have fun with it.
I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am. 10 Years of Kingdom Hearts 3DS Friend Code: 0301-9785-9580 [url=http://www.youtube.com/user/NeoStormGaming]Watch me and my friends play games! Now with better visual qualit...
Sigh. Guess I can't expect Sonic Colors to be any good, then. If it's not fast like the original Sonics, then there's no point in playing it. Hell, there may not be a point in hoping that Sonic will be good anymore.
Everyone's too quick to go OH NOES THIS IS HORRIBLE NEWS, COLOURS WILL SUCK. Look at it this way - past 3D Sonic games have proven that Sega's idea of a difficulty curve is increasingly cheap traps and pitfalls to frustrate you with since 90% of them you can't even see coming. If they're toning those down, then I have absolutely no complaints at all. What're your favourite running levels in each of the past 3D Sonic games? I'll bet they're not the ones at the back end of the game.
To be fair, I was going ape over Mega Man and the now-classic Mario platformers when I was 6-12, so...this could mean nothing. It hopefully just signifies a return to simplicity of control or something.
Hopefully.
(Why am I bothering defending an upcoming Sonic game? Am I really that eager to read my own comment again in a few months and feel embarrassed at my optimism?)
This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard, even if the game is aimed at children you should never say to a potential customer 'this isn't for you'. It's just dumb...
gosh I'm starting to believe the conspiracy theories about publishers actively sabotaging their Wii releases!
