Why is it that people only see the superficial aspects of these games when they play them? How hard is it to appreciate the depth of history, the characters and the real battlefields that are recreated in these games?
I have a protip for IGN with the Warriors series - get a freaking book on the warring states period, or even just hit up Wikipedia. Understanding the historical context of the games makes it a real winner.
I think so, there is the option for global random match ups, so I assume friend codes work as well.
Give me your FC! Happy to help out!
As for the history, the game does a pretty good job of explaining the basics. For more in-depth stuff, the wikipedia articles area good, accurate start. For another real-but-fictionalized account there is the truly great epic novel, Taiko by Eiji Yoshikawa. I highly recommend that book.
Unfortunetely most of the good history books on the Sengoku Period are limited to Japanese-only reading. But still, start with those.
Anyway, this is still, by far, my favorite Wii game of all time. And by far, my most played Wii game.
I'll probably be popping it into my Wii for the first time after the new year. My backlog is immense right now! I picked it up today because I figured I might not be able to find it later, and the price was pretty good. I'll post my FC once I have it. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be doing a little reading up later on.
Oops, sorry... i've mistaken it with Sengoku Bassara (but whats the difference again?)
Don't get me started...
Samurai Warriors is a game version of historical events. Samurai Heroes (Basara) is a game version of a manga interpretation of historical events.
There's some similarities between the two, but then there's some similarities between Mario Galaxy 2 and Ninjabread Man, too. The similarities hardly make Samurai Heroes an equivilent game to Warriors.
I really need to go pick up this game! I dont have any samurai warriors games, but i do have a couple dynasty warriors games lying around for the ps2. Thanks WaltzElf, you made me feel better about this game.

I like Dynasty Warriors, but not as much. samurai Warriors just seems to be the better setting, with more interesting characters.
The ability to change the voices to native Japanese is a bonus that shouldn't be underestimated, either. The stupidly silly voice acting of Dynasty Warriors isn't present here, and that's brilliant stuff.
That said, if you have a PS3, I recommend waiting for that version, now that it has been confirmed. There will be even morer in that game, and in glorious HD.
If you just have a Wii, though, don't feel bad about picking that version up. You're still getting a massive game.
Any word on when the PS3 version will be released, and if it will be getting an English translation? I suppose I should start the game before then.
It will probably get an English translation - Koei has released everything else in English so far from the Mosou series.
As for release dates, no idea. I would assume before Dynasty Warriors 7, so easily next year (assuming that doesn't clash with Dynasty Warriors Online)
I wanna try out this game, but can't find a good price for it anywhere is Aus. Playing Dynasty Warriors 6 at the moment, but the setting for the Samurai games sound more appealing.
Hey, anybody got a clue if the Xtreme Legends expansion will be full-priced instead of a budget price?(provided they release it in the west, of course) I always thought they priced the Expansions at around $20-$30 USD since it needs the full game anyways, or am I mistaken? I never bought one, so I wouldn't really know...
I've never scored a random match up, which I expected. However, I have a few friends hooked up online, and because the wifi connection is persistent, I've ended up playing a lot online.
But you can't compare this to monster hunter... The single player game is superior in this case, and then offline multiplayer. Online multiplayer, really, is just a bonus.
I bought this game a few weeks ago. I wasn't expecting much after reading many reviews trashing the game so I'm pleasantly surprised. The spirit charge is a nice addition that really renews the gameplay by opening up a lot of possibilities, like breaking an officer guard, juggling an opponent or dashing through an enemy group. The online mode is disappointing, I wish it wasn't limited to Murasame castle. Overall, Samurai Warriors 3 is an improvement over the previous games in the series so I don't understand why it was so badly received.
Me neither. I like it so much I have the soundtrack. I still have a lot of characters to unlock. Definitely something I'll be playing for years to come.
Also, Mickeymac, the expansion to the Wii game is priced at 3,800 yen, which is about $40 Aus.
So I take it if it came to the U.S., we could expect it around $30? If so, not bad. The price to get both sould be the same if/when we ever get the expansion.

Because many media outlets don't even play these games before reviewing them.
I wish that was an exaggeration, too. It's not.
SW3 is my favourite Wii game, and it was my entry to the Warriors series, which I'd overlooked, but since bought a bunch of games.
