I'm considering getting one or both of the RE:UC/DC and was wondering if any had opinions about either or both of these games. I do know they are "rail shooters" and was also debating House of the Dead:Overkill. Any ideas and/or thoughts?
Well it depends on the titles you're familiar with I guess. Umbrella Chronicles is recommend if you're only familiar with Resident Evil 1 and Zero. Darkside if you're familiar with Residet Evil 2, Code Veronica and 4. If you're familiar with all of the games I would recommend Darkside because of it's solid game-engine. The graphics and soundtrack of Darkside are considered vastly superior to the Umbrella ones by a lot of gamers and reviewers.
I played Darkside Chronicles and Overkill. Haven't played Umbrella.
I think RE:DC is absolutely amazing - it is short though. But it's great. I wanted to play it especially because I was familiar with the character of Leon from RE:4 of course, and wanted to see all the background. It didn't disappoint. This game has outstanding graphics - cinematic HD-like graphics. Stunning. And it's fun. But it's also easy and short - consider that. I do feel like playing Umbrella one day but having played through DC it will probably be disappointing in a way.
Overkill is the funniest game on the Wii, and a blast to play. The story here is also great, old-school graphics. A great game, even more recommended than DC, but also short, if that's a problem for you.
I would get both if you like rail shooters.
Not only does the 3DS come with an SD card, but it also happens to come pre-installed with one, additional dimension.
can't recommend Darkside Chronicles enough — definitely the best railshooter on Wii. It looks splendid and the controls work like a charm. Even if you haven't played the original RE games, it is still a must-play (and will surely get you curious about the RE world). Overkill is alrite, but that cheeky "70s b-movie" production can be really really annoying, plus the engine is nowhere near as good as Darkside Chronicles.
Umbrella Chronicles is meh, the worst of the lot really. Get The Darkside without thinking twice.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
i played RE4 and loved it, ended up playing through it a few times, then wanted to learn more back story even though I knew it had to do with the Umbrella obviously and that 4 was kinda leaving that aside except for Leon, so played UC to learn some of it and really liked it, haven't played the other 2 though but reading above DC might have to be played because of the above reviews and to learn the rest of the story.

Darn you Nintendo, my backlog is already out of control and you are just making it worse with these new game announcements!!!!
I actually liked RE:UC the most, because there is an incentive to replay. You can unlock a bunch of levels that show what Wesker was up to during the main story line. I've heard that the "4th Survivor" level is the best locked level, but I still haven't unlocked it.
RE:DC does have better graphics, but I don't think that there is much incentive to replay it, other than to jus get higher scores and find items. Also, I didn't like the story as much as RE:UC. I liked the RE2 levels, but the others were kind of silly, IMO.
Both of these games can be quite difficult, but, with some practice and upgraded wapons, you can get through them.
I didn't like Overkill at all. The dialogue was funny at times, but the gameplay just wasn't fun. There wasn't any tension, like in the RE games. You basically are moved into a room, you kill all the zombies in there, and then you're moved to the next room. I would describe th RE games as cinematic on-rail shooters. It's like watching an action movie, but you have to shoot the zombies, rather than just watch a character do it. Overkill is more like an arcade shooter with some story elements tacked on.
RE chronicle games are amazing if you dont go it alone
Digitaloggery 3DS FC: Otaku1 WiiU: 013017970991 Nintendo of Japan niconico community is full of kawaii! Must finish my backlagg or at least get close this year W...

In Darkside Chronicles you unlock the Operation Javier section played from Krauser's point of view. Pretty scary stuff. Also, you unlock the RE2 Tofu mode.

I never cared about the story, even though I've played several of the Resident Evil games. I found Darkside Chronicles was better than Umbrella Chronicles because the level designs were better and the upgrade system was much better. I got replay value from trying to max out all the weapons, which was a ton of fun. Umbrella Chronicles didn't offer me as many options for upgrading weapons.
I really enjoyed RE: UC. But then again its because I love the early RE games, so I got it just because of the Mansion levels. Its fun, but very difficult. Its a very affordable game you should be able to find a new copy under $20.
