So while I wait for the big releases to hit the WiiU, I figure I should catch up on the great Wii games I've missed out on since 2006.

So far, I've bought the Metroid Trilogy and I have SMG1/2, Skyward Sword, The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles on my rental list.
Anything else I should look into?

Red Steel 2 for sure, fantastic game. I've beaten it three times and I think I started a fourth.

One question: What genres do you find enjoyable?

Just for you.

Smash Bros., Skyward Sword, Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, and maybe some Wii Ware games. I don't know if you got the older consoles or not, but the VC games are still there if you have a classic controller. They updated the games NES-N64(including Sega, Turbo Graphx, Arcade, and Commodore 64) to run in 480p and better sound quality than when they were on the cartridges. Just an FYI.

-Muramasa: The Demon Blade
-Trauma Team
-Wario Land: Shake It!
-Donkey Kong Country Returns
-Rayman Origins

World of Goo is the only other must play. Otherwise Punch-Out!! and Kirby's Epic Yarn are great if you find them cheap. And NPC Pikmin 2 if you missed it on the Gamecube.

Edit. And I hear Beat the Beat is fantastic.

To be honest, none of the Pokemon games on the Wii were particularly great. Battle Revolution is too limited and slow, Pokemon Ranch is a expansion to Diamond and Pearl people only bought for Mew, Rumble is just about the most repetitive game on the face of the planet, and Pokepark games are just very kiddy, easy action/adventure games.
Coming from a Pokemon fan, I would only buy any of them if you are a big fan of Pokemon, because there is no appeal to them past that.

That being said, get Twilight Princess, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (if you're into fighting games), Resident Evil 4, Okami and Zack and Wiki. Those are the ones I can think of which haven't been mentioned yet.

Excite Truck and Excite Bots. Best racing games on Wii in my expert opinion.

I think those titles you mentioned right there will keep you busy enough until the Wii U big releases unless you're a madman and in that case I want your autograph.

Nevertheless, I would still add Muramasa, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and possibly Pandora's Tower to you Wii collection.

To blessed to be stressed.
