I need help with something.... if any one can - Since I hooked up my Wii to my Sony Bravia 40S3000 (it does not have a game mode in menu) I have noticed that certain games that run at 480p (such as Kirby/Animal Crossing), when I select my Wii video output to 480p have jerky scrolling. If I switch to 480i, its smooth. I also have a PS3 connected to this TV and I have no such problems. Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

PS I am using a component cable

Do you have a component cable? Just because the game can run in 480p doesn't mean the Wii (or the TV) displays it that way

Yep, I am using a component cable. And the onscreen display from the TV tells me that the game is running at 480p. Its just there is sudden stuttering in games running at 480p.

Try turning off as much processing stuff as possible. Turn off noise reduction, contrast enhancement, edge enhancement, motion enhancement. Anything that sounds like it's doing some video processing turn it off and see if it helps.

A quick google and I found this thread where a person asked this:

I have the Sony KDL-40S3000 and am having a problem with horizontally scrolling text in the Playstation 3 game Rock Band being blurry/unreadable. Everything else on screen is crisp except for the scrolling text. Other people on message boards have had this problem with this game and various TV's (many of them Sony's). One person was able to fix it on their Sony KDL-40V3000 by turning CineMotion OFF and Game / Text Mode ON. I have tried turning all image processing features off, but nothing helps. My TV doesn't have the Game / Text mode of the 40V3000, so I'm worried that there is nothing I can do. I have my PS3 connected via HDMI and displaying at 720p.

So it looks like other people are having similar problems with that screen so it might just be that the screen has problems with game-like signals. No answers on that thread but try turning of the processing anyways and see if it helps.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it seems that the only processing thing I can disable is noise reduction.... For example my TV has cinemotion but there is no option to disable it - It is no big deal as there difference between 480i and 480p is minimum, but if Wii 2 jerks I'd be mad. PS3 plays fine, so theoretically I should be fine... (720p as my TV is HD Ready).

Hmm, is it jerky if you use the component cable but set your Wii to 480i? Or is it only fine when you use the composite cable?

Also are you using a PAL TV/console? Some games in the PAL regions have display issues since they run at 50Hz. If your games have a 60Hz option you should use that. (Though I don't think this option is common for PAL Wii games.)

1. If I set the Wii to 480i with the component cable it works perfect. Not even using a composite.

2. Both my TV and console are PAL, and both are capable of displaying 60hz.

Well that sucks. Sounds like your TV simply doesn't like 480p for gameses
