So I don't know about you lot, but there has been a gaping hole in the Wii library since launch, and it has troubled me. We had loads of good racers on the 64 and GC, but it's been pretty light as far as quality racers go on the Wii. That's all about to change fortunately, with the release of some much needed speed. Which one are you looking forward to the most?
Trackmania Wii - Video in French, soz. [youtube:u-dUz64_CEI]
Dirt 2 - Bad quality, soz. [youtube:fV8BClWv8mE]
Need for Speed Nitro - Pimpin', soz. [youtube:bBo04g_eJdQ]
Formula 1 2009 - Erm, soz?! [youtube:Z1LAYx-8oJM]
Personally, I'm looking forward to Trackmania the most, as I'm a complete TM nut!! But I'll probably buy them ALL! What about you?
LOL I knew that'd be the first comment, ahahaha. I'd like F-Zero before any of these too, but while I'm waiting, I want my Wii-Wheel to get some action besides Mario-Kart n' Speed Racer.
I'm looking forward to Trackmania most also, Machu. Ever since I downloaded the demo for DS at Wal-Mart...I've been in love with the game's awesome physics.
@Odnetnin: You should try TMNF if you like the physics, this is free and awesome. Will tied you over till the Wii release at least. Look forward to exchanging tracks when it does.
Track Mania looks fun, though I have to say it might be too little too late now that the much more interesting Mod Nation Racers is in the PS3's hopefully near future.
It's amazing that there is really only one third-party racer on Wii I can think of, Speed Racer (decent game), considering it's the most obvious implementation of motion controls and video games have a long history of wheel controllers in arcades and on consoles.
Indeed, motion control = steering wheel. Hence why I'm desperate for some more racing action. TM definitely. F1 I'll get, if the physics are good and the engine screams in the right manner. Then it depends which turns out best from the other two, though I like what NFS is doing with the customization and the way the world gets painted as you are going, a la de Blob. But then, I love me some bonnet cam rally goodness too. Yep, buying them all!
I'm still really wanting Excite Bots, but I saw that Track Mania video some time ago and that does look like it could be interesting -- how are the crashes?
@Adam: Just checked out that Mod Nation Racers you mentioned and it's nowt like Trackmania which is about physics and pure driving skills, where this PS3 one is kart-based, it's even got weapons and power ups. If you think a Mario Kart clone is more interesting than TM, I'm guessing you've never tried it? Why even mention a PS3 game in a Wii-racing thread anyway?
@Sean: The set up in Trackmania is time-trial based, so you might be on the track with four other cars but there will be no contact, it's about who can get there quicker, not who can block the other one. As for crashes the physics vary from F1 to rally to supercars and more. And you will crash, lots, but that's what happens when you fly off a ramp at 100mph. I'm surprised there are still people who haven't played it, it's quite a phenomenon.
This is the trailer for the free version I linked above, it is set in the stadium, one of the many environments in TM. I suggest watching it in HQ. [youtube:zwhC0PCYAa4]
Drit 2 and F1 look good to me. I've been jonesin' for a more realistic racing game/sim for a while now, and am this close to picking up a Slim just for Gran Turismo 5.
I stil have yet to get Ferrari Challenge, a packaging-only update now calls it Ferrari Challenge Deluxe. I'm waiting because I read in another forum that System 3 will be releasing a new version of the game by the end of the year.
Nice 1 V, I knew I was forgetting one. I need to pick Ferrari up, I keep buying something else whenever I go to the game-shop. Just watched a youtube vid though and it looks pretty good. Might grab it tomorrow so as to get my fix. Vrooom!
Woah!. Just checked Wiki so as to tease myself further, and look who is in the review section. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excitebots Niiice! I hope we get it Sean I reeeally do, but it's been sometime now, and STILL no word.
It's funny, at one point in a blog post of worse Wii games ever made, this guy listed the racing genre saying "it's like Nintendo put a patent on good racing games once Excite Truck was released." That almost seems to be the case.
