...in japan at least. that's according to the news from nintendo today, which is a little surprising considering how often mario galaxy 2 was said to be done, yet we still won't see it until after E3 at earliest (the game was confirmed to be on display at E3, something they wouldn't do if it were going to be out already). other m is apparently coming out first, which i don't think anyone expected. small, but actual news!
the story was on the front page of nintendolife today:
"ime this spring.
The Nintendo/Team Ninja (of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden fame) mash-up Metroid: Other M has been listed for "summer 2010" in Japan, and the game's official Web site has now gone live. Not much to see at the moment apart from an image that looks pulled from the E3 reveal trailer, but it might be worth keeping your eyes on down the line.
Iwata also mentioned that the company plans to show off Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii and the curious Vitality Sensor at E3."
Mario Galaxy 2 after Other M. Damn, I was hoping for it sometime in spring. But I guess it would make sense. They don't want to impede on the NSMBW juggernaut with another mario game.

it really does put zelda into doubt for this year, knowing that the first of this trilogy of awesome games isn't coming out until mid-year. it's harder to see the other two being crammed within 5-6 months of each other, especially considering how much work has to be done for zelda to be finished. maybe if other M comes out in may with mario in august the spacing would be good enough, and i can imagine zelda just making it in time for christmas.

That makes sense, but didn't Reggie say that the new Zelda is "far into development"? It is Reggie, though.

Releases are based on timing more then then when the games are actually done.
Timing includes release date, competition, various social and economical factors, as well as internal issues such as other games from the same company.

which is why it's hard to think zelda will comfortably make it this year; games usually spend a few months in line before coming out for promotion and good timing, like you said. zelda is said to be far enough along that they've got the gameplay mechanics down, with the controls and physics done, but it seems like they're just breaking into everything else like the actual worlds and story. it should be a giant game, at least as big as twilight princess, so i assume it's still going to be a while before that's done. if they do get it done and released before the end of this year, it'll need to be done probably by fall, which will be cutting it close.
The list of upcoming Wii titles has Metroid: Other M as coming out in June. This most likely won't happen, but it'd be awesome if it did...
I'm not holding my breath, though, it'll probably hit here in the US around August or so. I just want a concrete release date already...
