i misread what that was all about, apparently it's not a matter of nintendo's lease at all. IBM and AMD have been working together to produce a lot of components (including the brains of the wii) and have an agreement to stay partnered until december 31, 2011. after that point it's not clear if the two companies will be working with one another again. this is why nintendo needs to make a new console before the 2011 deadline, otherwise they may not have both companies on board to produce their hardware.

^^ I still think they'd need to keep the partnership active for the entirety of the console's lifespan though. I imagine if the console's currently in development with IBM tech, if it gets delayed, it will be no problem to continue the partnership. IBM wouldn't want it's investment in the dev. during these years go to naught, and nintendo wouldn't either. I don't think this is a deadline really. A part of me would like it to be, so that I can get it that much sooner. Another part of me wouldn't mind not having to invest in a whole new console for a couple more years.

They (Nintendo) have already considered such thing, but 3rd parties and game developers strongly advised them to drop the thing because you need a feedback. And that's why Nintendo will never do something like Natal.

we got awhile until that comes out! there are plenty of franchises that havent yet been released on wii so until we see kirby, starfox and the crew, we have yet to see a second wii!

ok keep the first wii mote chang nothing with it! name the new wii and call it wii-D or in other words wii digital. they could also add blue ray and BD-live also inhanced games for the wii-D and games that only play on wii-D also give us media streaming just like on APPLE TV. and change the photo channle to the media channle. also let the wii-D still interact with the first wii WI-FI wize.

If you think a few years back while the GBA was king and the DS was an infant, Nintendo promised that the DS would not and was not a replacement or sequel to the GBA. The DS was a "third pillar" in the Nintendo lineup. Little did they know about the popularity of the DS and now the GBA is discontinued.
The Wii is phenomenal and the sales are off the charts, but they are slowing. Sony and MS are moving to the motion control arena. If they are successful, the both consoles will have sheer power over the Wii. It makes sense to spend some time in R&D and look into a more powerful Wii. And look at it this way, if Nintendo pushes a new Wii with improved power and better motion controls, it would appease the hardcore crowd and attract more third party and would get even more praise. If Sony and MS drop the ball on their motion control, Nintendo would have a system to match their console's power level and have more refined motion control. Win, win situation...

Plus, think about all the games to be rebuilt for Wii ReDuex, Smash Bros Brawl @ 1080 P, SM Galaxy @ 1080 P, Please, please, please, please Twilight Princess @ 1080 P... There would be a ton of money involved with HD ports of the super hits now.

On well, just a thought....

I just hope it's backwards compatible with games.
