Hello there. I like to talk about the Virtual Console in the next Nintendo video game consoles. I have a lot of things to say, so sit back, grab a coke, and eat some popcorn and enjoy:
Video Game Consoles that should be on the Virtual Console:
1. Virtual Console Arcade. It should be able to support games from the earliest of games like Pong to the late 1990's classics such as Tekken 3 and Street Fighter Alpha 3. It should receive update at least once a month. Avaliable at launch.
2. Commondore 64. Both Europeans and American should get this at launch, plus Japanese should also get it too.
3. Nintendo Entertainment System. No sweat at all, in fact, I think they'll be able to start sorting out licensing issues here. Available at launch.
4. Sega Master System. Available at launch.
5. TurboGrafx-16. Available at launch
6. Sega Genesis. Available at launch
7. Neo Geo. Available at launch
8. Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Available at launch
9. Sega Saturn. A completely new system for the Virtual Console. Becomes available at launch worldwide.
10. Nintendo 64. Add third-party titles to the fray, plus a Rumble Pak-like replacement, so we'll see N64 games at a faster pace. Available at launch.
11. Nintendo Gamecube. Also a never before seen system on the Virtual Console. Available at launch worldwide.
Now here's the game I would like to see at launch for these consoles:
Virtual Console Arcade (200-600 Points): 1. Pacman 2. Mappy 3. Donkey Kong 4. Galaga 5. Dig Dug 6. Pole Position 7. Pong 8. Mario Bros. 9. Street Fighter 10. SegaSonic the Hedgehog

Gamecube (750 Points): 1. Super Smash Bros. Melee 2. Super Mario On Delfino Island 3. Pikimin 4. Sonic Adventure Battle 2 5. Luigi Mansion.
That's about seventy. Sounds like a tall order for a launch, but if Nintendo isn't lazy, it feastible.
I LOVE the options emulators give you. In any and all games you have the ability to instantly save or load a game in progress, configure your buttons as you see fit, customize your experience with graphical filters (that especially help with the much older looking NES era graphics), and even use Game Genie/Action Replay codes to beat those unbeatable/cheap games.
As much as I'd love to see Dreamcast or even Saturn games on a future Nintendo system, I'd be a happy gamer for a few more user-friendly emulation options. If at least part of the reason for the VC's creation was to fight piracy and actually earn some money for all those old games, I'd like my Wii (or Wii 2) to have comparable options to some of the best emulators out there!
I think Nintendo will likely just carry over the Virtual Console if they can. I can't see gamers wanting to rebuy the same games we've already purchased on the Virtual Console. But who knows with Nintendo. I would like to see Saturn and Dreamcast games, and more modern arcade titles wouldn't hurt either.
I love the Idea of Gamecube, Dreamcast and Saturn games. i hope Nintendo can get more developers to release their old games onto VC, so we can get more games a Week. And also, all currently available VC/Wiiware games should be ported so that we don't have to start all over.

If we have to rebuy our collections then its time to storm Nintendo with pitchforks and torches
subzerobf Post 7#: As much as I would like for every VC games we have today be ported over to the next system, the reason why my launch list for Nintendo next system won't contain everything we see on launch day is because I want to make sure it last as long as possible. Despite that, excellent idea. I do predict that the Sega Dreamcast will be on the Nintendo Wii successor's Virtual Console, but not as launch, as we have yet to see the Sega Saturn on the Wii Virtual Console. However, it would be great to finally have Virtual Console game to play online and not change anything from the original, plus not force us to pay for online play and be able to finally play Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 and among other titles.
MegaMX4 Post 8#: I like the idea, but the Virtual Console was meant to stay completely to it's roots. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good suggestion and I wish Nintendo would do allow us to do something like that. It's not all negitive respone here thought as I'll give out my opinion on your good suggestion:
Game Genie/Action Replay: Now that's something we need! The NES/SNES had it, why not the Virtual Console? Nintendo needs to add that.
Being able to save games and/or load in progess. Also would work out well. A few retro games (Not sure which) let's you save anytime you want, that will actually fly with Nintendo because it doesn't change the gameplay for us to really notice.
Configure buttons as you see fit: It's a good suggestion, but there's a problem. As you can see, the Wii, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 has limited customization of controls, because some games have to use every single button, while with a PC, some of the most complex games allows unlimited customization and still don't use all of the controls there. How Super Smash Bros. Brawl and The Conduit manage to pull it off on the Wii is a mystery, some PS3 and Xbox 360 games don't even allow customization controls at all, while in the computer world, it's almost an mandatory rule. You might want to contact Nintendo about customizable controls for Virtual Console games on the next Nintendo console and tell us what they said about it, because that could change gameplay experience.
Graphical filter: Okay, what's that suppose to be? Wait a minute, you can make Super Mario World on an ROM look like a high-standard GBA title? If so, then that's not really a good suggestion. While most of your suggestion is good, I'm worried it could change the gameplay experience to the point of not feeling like the same game anymore. I'm sorry but as much as I like to support it, even if you knee down and begged to Nintendo, they'll probably not do it, because they're trying to keep the game to it's original statue, so we can relive memories.
If one of the reason for the Virtual Console by Nintendo is indeed to fight piracy, I have came into the conclusion that Nintendo shouldn't just have a real Virtual Console (They're the only one so far, which is an advantage over it's competitor, since they also support non-Nintendo systems), but so should Sony and Microsoft not just to compete with Nintendo, but also to fight piracy. That way, we'll reduce piracy (So I don't have to get involved in downloading illegal ROMs anymore), and get more of our games we wanted so much on the Virtual Console. ALSO, if Sony and Microsoft do a Virtual Console for fighting piracy, maybe it'll benefit all of us and there won't be so much complaining about how there console (Not just for Nintendo fans, but also Sony and Microsoft fans) is letting them down and most of my Youtube video won't contain negitive respone to people to *****, moan, and cry over one little mistake Nintendo has made. In short, it'll make all three a more profitiable company.
I have to think the Wii will go the way of the DS with only minor iterations supporting backwards compatibility, such that the next system will be Wii-compatible, but drop Gamecube support and also slim the machine down since it could lose the Gamecube ports; maybe adding a camera/microphone input just like the DS/DSi. I would likewise predict that the Shop will possibly stay the same, maybe offering new titles that are only compatible with the next gen hardware, but ensure that they can continue to sell to people who decide not to upgrade their systems (whilst being able to entice them by showing them trailers of games they'd have to get the upgrade to play).
Of course the main thing I'd want is an end to region-coding both for online and disc releases!

I'm not talking about an upgrade just like Nintendo did with the DSi, I'm talking about an entirely new Nintendo system.
I don't see an entirely new Nintendo system on the radar at all. I cannot see that they'd want to risk completely splitting their current userbase that way, but I guess anything could happen...
Still quite a number of years away before Nintendo will think about making a new console. We're nearly up to the Wii's fourth anniversary but with the economy being the way it is, companies may feel its more profitable to get more out of their current consoles than making new ones and new games. Certainly none of the three consoles going right now are showing any signs of slowing down.
Nintendo needs to sort out a system to transfer ownership of Virtual Console games purchased on the Wii to the next console even if it means losing ownership of the VC games you downloaded for the Wii (i.e. you can play the games you bought for the Wii on the new console but you can no longer play or download them again on the Wii). Or if Nintendo won't do this at all, they should stress that you should keep your Wii to play your downloaded Virtual Console games and put up every single Virtual Console and Wiiware game on the new console immediately and continue supporting both systems simultaneously (perhaps even using the same Shop but some weeks there may be games that run on the new console only and not the Wii).
The Wii has technical limitations preventing it from supporting large games like the other two consoles can. However, Nintendo may want to continue down the "cheap and cheerful casual console" route that they started with the Wii so although the next console should let us download large games there is no accuracy in guessing that it will.
I don't expect games to be cheaper - they would cost the same they do now and additional more powerful consoles that get added will be priced accordingly for their games.

I think like other people have said, the VC/WW games will just carry over to the next system's Wii Shop. Otherwise, I don't think I would even bother with the new system, as I have spent around 200 bucks on Wii points, and I know there are many on this site that have spent more than me. They will probably let you have a one-time transfer of your old games to the new system.
As for Game Genie, that was made by Galoob. Do they even exist anymore? I know that in the day, Nintendo hated the Game Genie and I think even filed a lawsuit against it. I could be wrong though. While I would love Game Genie support, I don't see it happening. Maybe a third party can step in and capitalize on this?
Also Sean Aaron, why do you think the Wii 2 would be backwards compatable with the Wii but not the Gamecube? Aren't they essentially the same system? I suppose they could make it unable to read the Gamecube discs though. Because they are essentially the same system, it wouldn't really cost Nintendo anything to keep it Gamecube compatable, but then again they could lose out on Gamecube VC sales. I'm holding out hope it will still be Gamecube backwards compatable.

Just based upon the track record with the GBA - GB Micro - DS - DSi and PS2 - PS3 -- keeping one generation backwards-compatible seems to be easy enough, but then the cord gets cut and things move on. I suppose I could see it being compatible in terms of running the software and maybe using new controllers, but there's no way we're going to see Gamecube controller ports and memory card slots on a future Wii successor. Not only do they bulk up the machine, but they've proven to be a vector for hacking the current Wii (Gecko, et al).
If the next console is backwards compatible with the Wii then certainly it should keep Gamecube controllers for those Wii games that use them. Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii play best when you use a Gamecube controller.
