I apologize if this topic has been done before recently, but I am starting to get concerned about the lack of NG games coming out for the VC. Corbie (or any of you other moderators), could you guys use your investigative resources and contact D4 Enterprises (the company handling NG games on VC) and find out what the deal is? Did they give up on the VC? You guys are always talking to game companies, why don't you drop D4 a line. I know I'm not alone in wanting to know what the holdup is.
Neo Geo games are just not selling well on the VC. In truth, most people don't even know what a Neo Geo system is/was. And other than a few of the big name titles released to date, there aren't many left that anyone other than serious game fans know anything about. I've heard from numerous people inside the industry that have stated that even sales of the most popular Neo titles like the Samurai Shodown games, haven't sold up to par. And given the collections being released, I doubt we're going to see a lot of Neo titles in the foreseeable future.

It wouldn't be so bad if the collections were easy to get hold of (PAL version anyway). After much searching I've managed to get the 4 releases but it seems the Samurai Shodown and KOF collections only had about 5 PAL copies produced

What about King of Fighters and Metal Slug? Those games were/are pretty popular and there's still plenty of them that could be released on VC.
Show the Neo-Geo some love people. This was an amazing 16-bit system; a true 2D powerhouse. If you haven't downloaded any games for it yet, spare a few Wii points and download a few. You might actually enjoy them.
I agree with Vio, I kinda feel like the games they have released are not some of the better ones. I bet they would get more sales if they released the later Metal Slug games, or the later KoF games. They shouldn't be surprised games like Ninja Commando and Blue's Journey aren't selling well. Not that either are bad games, just not the best games to represent the system with. I'm sure the Sonic games sell better than the more obscure Sega games, it's just the way it works. Hopefully though, they will continue to release more NeoGeo games. Remember back when we thought we would never see any more TG16 games? I'm not giving up hope just yet.

So if say, the Genesis ports of Fatal Fury and the like had been released instead of the NeoGeo games on the Virtual Console, they would have sold better? I agree that they could have done better in their choice of NeoGeo releases too. The first games released on the NeoGeo weren't anything that special especially compared to the ones that came out during the mid-nineties and later. Sadly they released only the early nineties games on the Virtual Console and because of this the NeoGeo is blamed for not being a profitable system for the Virtual Console. D4 Enterprise should give the NeoGeo one last go and release only the late nineties games and the most well known games instead of concentrating on its early days. I want my Waku Waku 7!!

Not a chance in hell. And I also somewhat agree with the posters on the Neo Geo forums who claim that most gamers that are that familiar with the Neo Geo system own one of the systems already anyway.
And I believe it's been said that it would be difficult to release many of the later titles due to their extremely large file sizes.

I've no idea but if thats true its understandable - I wonder at what year of the NeoGeo's game history is the "cut-off point" where no game on the NeoGeo could be released on the Virtual Console because of size limitations. I'm going to have a guess that no game later than '96 could be released on Virtual Console but even that may be pushing it.
I believe The Last Blade and Garou: Mark of the Wolves were two examples that were just not capable of being compressed enough to fit. But I'm also still curious why some of the smaller games like Viewpoint and Blazing Star haven't seen a release.
You mentioned Waku Waku 7 (one of my favorites for my Neo cabinet) and I'd bet it would fit.
Yeah. I played Waku Waku 7 once in the arcades and quite enjoyed it. I never did see the machine again so I would download that as soon as it gets released if ever. And regarding the other games that haven't seen release yet that should have saw a release, I guess it was just a matter of timing and that if D4 Enterprise had continued to release NeoGeo games then we would probably have saw those too.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
Compression issue or not, there are still quite a few games that could very well fit, and I'm still waiting for them! Sengoku 1+2, Waku Waku 7, and a few others. Time (and quite a bit of patience.....possibly the "next gen console" kind), will ultimately tell.
I think my next few VC downloads will be strictly Neo-Geo games. If supporting their existing titles will help the process...I'll do what I can. I'd rather have those games all collected on my Wii instead of spread across a dozen compilations on other consoles anyway.
