It seems like MH3 is going to be one of the biggest Wii game so 010, and many people are hyped for it. However a consistency I've noticed is how many of these people never played a MH before, and only judge their "Number 1 anticipated Wii game" from screens and vids. Little do they realize that this isn't a typical action-RPG, and most have the wrong idea. Don't get me wrong, I still am happy to see other non-Japanese people take interest in the series, but I am surprised at the amount of hype for a series (which is a genre in it's own right) many have not touched.
So, out of everyone here who actually wants to play MH3, are you one of these inexperienced hunters with no idea of the grueling task that will be set before them, or are you a veteran hunter, having played at least one title in the franchise before.
Im ignorig due to the fact that it has monthly payments for online. Im not soending almost 100 bucks a year to play 1 game. What is it anyways, an MMO?
@GabeGreens: First, it hasn't been confirmed if you have to pay for online in the NA regions. Capcom knew it was popular enough in Japan that people would pay anyway. It might not in America. Second, you don't even need online. The game functions perfectly fine by yourself. Third, it plays unlike everything else. It's got MMO-like qualities because it has a large focus on "grinding" (that's a loose use of the word though). It's got action-adventure qualities in it's battle system. It's got a little bit o' Pokemon in it because you "Gotta Kill Em' All!"
I would say get Freedom Unite for PSP, but this is supposed to be the most user-friendly MH. It's upposed to teach you the basic, slowly nudge you into the combat system, give you some easy quests, then throw you to the wolves rather than "wolves first, knowledge later".
I'm really looking forward to this game but have never played a MH title before. This is why I'm dying to read an import review just so,if I need to, I can lower my expectations a bit.It looks fantastic but having read some reviews of previous games there is several things that put me off a little.I'll probably get it anyway just too see those lovely visuals.Does it actually have actual hunter type gameplay i.e Stalking your pray, being down wind, stuff like that or is it more hack n' slash type of game.Do you think there are major changes for this Wii version over previous installments?
@Luigi78: Well, it's neither. You have to remember these bosses you're fighting are dragons. The best way to describe it to you was if a famous football player (someone with muscle) had to kill a T-Rex. They'd have to prepare with lots of healing items (work with me here), study the creature's behavior and patterns carefully, bring the best weapon for the job, get the best defensive armor possible, determine what can help you in the current climate (ex-heat resistent clothing in the desert), food for the long struggle, etc, etc, etc.
Essentially, a lot of preparation followed by an epic and long struggle.
@Adam: MH is not something that appeals to a lot of people, but chances are, if you like it, you like it a lot. Give it a rental when it comes out.
I'm not hyped up at all. I'll rent it when it comes out, just to see if it's at least better than the PSP entries in the series, but othwise it's pretty far off my radar.
@Bahamut ZERO You lost me at famous football player!! ......only kidding Ahhhh sounds intresting so there is quite a lot of statergy to it.I'll probably give this a go and if I like it I might even go online with it ( I don't really go online much). Thanks for the info. So are they usually quite linear in nature or can you choose where to go and what to hunt next?

This isn't World of Warcraft and it's not an mmo! Online is a choice and it's only 4 player online ANYWAY also you don't pay for online and even if we had too it would prolly be no more than 700 wii points a month which IS by far cheaper than a lot of mmos and subscription based games out there! Plus knowing monster hunter there is plenty and i mean PLENTY (at times too much) quests, hunts, and exploring to keep you busy longer than.....dare I say....Final Fantasy XII? (no that's a stretch) Tales of Symphonia (not dawn)
So yes I'm hyped for this game and can't wait to play with some of my friends and kick some wyvern ass.
Wii FC: 5412 0162 6187 3594 Brawl FC: 0517 4738 5514 Why do I want to bring back Pluto? Cuz the 8 others bullied it and I don't approve of bullying and I am here with this pointless movement to remind people of how (in)significant it really is!
@Luigi78: You have a lot of freedom. Quests are unlocked in large sets (10+) according to difficulty level, so to unlock the next level you have to beat most of the previous level. And yeah, lots of strategy.
@Bring Back Pluto: This has more then XII. Do you know how much time you can spend on this? 200 hours is easy, 500 if you really like it, and more if you're addicted.
I'm an inexperienced Monster Hunter who has never really got on with h&s. But this has me really excited. In games, if you give me a large beautiful expanse to explore, then my money is already on the counter.
One thing that concerned me was I saw quite a bit of clipping in the trailers. I'm sure I won't care in-game, but seeing weapons go through the floor alarmed me slightly.
@Machu: I'm not sure about this ,but the others never gave us a lot of land to explore. There were several areas, all big, but nothing "explore worthy." It's all about the monsters.
So far, I'd be a "New" although I plan to get one of the ps2 games on eBay first and make sure I like it before forking over the full admission for the prettier, better Wiiquel.
[21:14] pixelman: I blame fheblackdragon
[21:15] pixelman: That's not an f by the way, it's a fancy t.
