I looked at your comment and thought "who's this 'machine' guy?"

I feel like a machine today. A spreadheet-eating, monster-hunting, forum-dwelling, coffee-powered MACHINE.

Well done for besting Gobul btw, that thing is a freak and deserves to die!

Hunters, Assemble!

I give you: Yahtzee Croshow's Zero Punctuation "Review" of Monster Hunter Tri
Or, Yahtzee Plays A Game For An Hour and Thinks He Knows Everything About It.

Warning: He's foul-mouthed and juvenile. Anyone under 18 or at work, please don't watch. Summary below for people who don't watch. (It'll only get you mad anyway.)

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/...

Summary:

  • Irritating and biased cheap shots at the Wii and game's box art.
  • Critique of the game's opening cinematic. Clearly trying to make up for time here.
  • Unrelated xenophobic reference to Japanese culture and adult visual novels.
  • Unrelated reference to Harvest Moon.
  • Unrelated reference to how much MMOs suck.
  • Complaints about how you spend 100% of the game gathering herbs.
  • Complaints about how every enemy you fight is small and defenceless (lol).
  • He saw the Lagiacrus while doing the 1* Monster Guts quest. Ran away and then waited at the beach for it (lol, scared much?) - after complaining that the game told him it was too hard for him - because he's a pansy.
  • Phoned in and stopped playing after seeing Lagiacrus, all the while complaining that he fought no big or hard monsters. Why the hell did he give up after seeing Lagia's awesomeness? Great Jaggi was just around the corner.
  • No complaints about what people normally and legitimately complain about, e.g. sluggish heavy weapons, manual camera aiming, no lock-on, Diablos is frickin' fast, flexing after gulping a potion, etc.

Aside: Forum thread for the video. What a shameful farce. At least the people who actually play MH have reasonable posts there.

I watched the whole video and read the whole thread and I got totally riled up. What a sham this guy is for "reviewing" a game which he played for an hour. He complained that FFXIII was terrible and he gave it five, and then gave this (far superior) game only one hour for some reason. Way to complain about the game's tutorial.

He honestly thinks the game is about slaughtering Jaggis and gathering plants! He didn't even talk about hunting monsters in a review of a game called Monster Hunter. Really, that's why I (and others in that forum thread for that matter) think he played the game for a short time and then dropped it. Why even bother making a video review if you're going to spend 40% of it railing on about other things like MMOs and JRPGs? He didn't even realise that this is an action game.

The first few Zero Punctuation videos were entertaining and acute. But this just annoys the hell out of me. Not the fact that he's slamming the game - he does that with pretty much all of his reviews (it's also mostly comic entertainment, not serious critiquing) - but because it's a falsely-based opinion of the game which is going to spread to the hundreds of people who watch his video reviews. Like an obscure game from Japan really needs bad press to help its sales even further. Gee, thanks Yahtzee.

He's a joke reviewer. If anyone is stupid enough to believe his "review" then we sure as heck don't want them online, failing at killing a Great Jaggi.

Yeah, but the point of his jokes is that they expose truths about games. That's what makes them funny (for the most part). The jokes in this one are only funny because he disses MMOs again, and disses Japan again, and disses the Wii again, and makes references to genitalia again, and acts like the English douchebag stereotype again.

"Reviewer" shouldn't be anywhere in his title if he doesn't even bother playing the games any substantial amount in the first place. This is just spreading bad rep for an actually good game.

EDIT: Anyway I've had my rant and I'm done. I'm not going to talk about this anymore unless someone says something really poignant about it lol.

I lost interest in Monster Hunter after more then 200 hours of playtime the stupid gameplay is just repeating on and on. And what is also a very big dissapointment is that Capcom didnt even include a REAL 16:9 Mode. Thats a shame. And the waiting is horrible, too.

You put 200 hours into a game you hate? Wow.

I dont hate the game. It lost just its fun. Because the only thing you do is running after the big Monsters and nothing more. I thought it will change a littlebit in the later quests but no. Everything really everything is the same as before just sometimes there is a + before some items. And the waiting in the lobbies is just horrible and you can not do quests if someone doesnt have the same Hunter Rank. So you have to search and wait till you find people of your same HR. Even you reached the expert Level after HR 31 and you log into the servers you still have the same problems. That is just anoying.

Nintendo-64

Machu

That's funny. You play a game for 200 hours plus, and then decide you hate it? It sounds like you got value for your money, and obviously enjoyed it enough to invest more time it than some people do with their all time favourites.

@Nintendo-64 It took you 200 hours to get to the HR 31-40 bracket? It really sounds like you haven't hit the late game yet at all... It sounds like you hit high rank and were disappointed that you fight harder versions of the same monsters. But they aren't the same, they are much much harder and much more interesting as a result. I guess you didn't take the time to actually fight them.

Anyway like Machu said, shouldn't you be happy you got a good 200 hours out of the game? Most games are like 10-20 hours long. People said FFXII was insane and that was only about 120 hours. You got some serious value for your money there. Be happy about it!

And sure, you do fight the same monsters but if by now you haven't realised that the fun comes from 1) The action and tactics you and your team use, 2) The satisfaction of forging and upgrading weapons using parts you gathered, and 3) The awesome giant monsters and watching for their behaviour and tells mid-fight, then perhaps this was never the game for you. I still don't believe you really spent 200 hours and you're complaining about basic stuff like needing people to be the same HR as you. You do know that's a good requirement to stop quests from failing every time right? People with low rank armor are going to die fast deaths in high rank quests.

And if you're having trouble with playing high rank games because no one's joining, maybe you forgot about the whole socialising aspect of the game? You know, make friends, play with them, rank up together? That kind of helps when you're looking for fun games and people of roughly the same rank. Guess you're not good at being friendly online either.

$50 / 200 hours = $0.25 per hour. Nice gas mileage, dude.

I didnt need 200 hours to reach level 31. Im level 45 and do the 5 star quests. By the way the time i played wasnt just online. Dont forget that there is a offline ode, too. And you have to that to get special items and so on. And that was very good and i still like to play the offline mode. Yes,it is fun to upgrade your weapons but there are not really changes. I have got alot of weapons fully upgrated and even complete armor sets leveled to the max Level:10. And where did i say that i hadnt any fun with the game? I had alot of fun but the design flaws became to annoying. And i have a lot of friends made online but what should i do if they are not online very much and if they are in a quest you cant even send them a mail. About tactics i have mostly people stupid running on to the Monster even their energy is low. And you cant imagine how much quests i lost because of such people who got knocked out 3 times! To find out about the monsters behaviors isnt that difficult and they dont change even in the hard quests. The only really great monster fight is jhen Moran. That is really a great one. About the thing that the people must have the same HR to play together. Why it works with other online games that even Level 1 can play with the highest level without making the more expierenced a problem like loosing the quest!? It would be so easy to solve that problem and it would make the game much more playable and the strategy of the players would really work because they have to support each other. You can actually help not so much expierenced player without having to do quest without any benefits for you.

The high rank monsters arent very much harder than before. They aqre harder indeed but not so much. Just deviljo is a real tough one.^^

The game is a very good one but the flaws it has in the online mode become more and more annoying. If you are lucky and you find a great group to play it is just great but sadly it is very difficult to find such a group. And what i really miss online is the exploration of the world. Because that is what i like the most. I think the collecting of mushrooms and so on is the best part of the game but if you play online it doesnt really exist anymore. Because if you play with others the most run for the moster and start to attack you or you have to do the online quests all alone. But for that i dont need to go online.

@Nintedo 64 You do need online if you want to advance further with your armour and weapons. You said you were at level 45 so you already know you cant farm or mine those items offline. Maybe you need to go to a recruting server and check what people are looking for or start a city of your own. I look for rare mineral searchs all the time. That way you dont have to worry about having to fight all the time. It may take sometime to get someone in your city but thats when you combine your items or make new armour sets to kill time. A lot of times when im on(really late at night) none on my friends list are on either. So i make new friends that play at around the same time. Another thing that is fun is helping lower rank players level up. Sometimes i get cought up in that to much though as my upgrades suffer.

It just sounds like you have some bad luck with some of the people you have play with. Some of the most fun i`ve had were failed quests. Often with 3 or less trying to do to much(LTGamer knows what im talking about) I think you need to lower your expectation of online and just have fun. Its not just about leveling up and getting to the next rank. Its about meeting new people and having fun.
