Topic: Mii Channel Corrupted

Hi everyone. When I turned on my Wii today, the following message popped up on the Wii Menu:
"Unable to load Mii Channel data. Please access the Mii Channel and check Mii Channel data."

Then, when I opened the Mii Channel, this popped up:
"The save data is corrupted. Format save data? (Choosing yes will erase all saved data. Choosing no will close the Mii Channel.) Yes/No"

Has this ever happened to anyone? I don't care about losing my Miis but if I choose "yes" to the question that I got asked in the Mii Channnel it isn't clear if I will lose only my Mii data or all my saved data on the Wii. Here's some additional info:
-My Wii is not and has never been modded.
-My Mii in the Everybody Votes Channel is gone, replaced my a generic one.
-This message came out of the blue, I have not used the Mii Channel recently.
-There is no Mii Channel data in the Wii's data management page.

hmm, i guess you could call/email Nintendo about it, i wouldn't pick yes til you know exactly what is going on.

I guess you could try formatting it. Just make sure to back up as many save games as you can on to an sd card. I'm pretty sure you can't copy games that go online though. I guess if that doesn't work you could always send it in. Well good luck

Ouch. I hope you've backed up everything you can onto SD just in case it does totally wipe your Wii. I would definitely contact Nintendo first to find out for sure.

Thanks everyone. I just emailed Nintendo about it. I will be sure to copy everything to an SD card if I do say "yes".

Yyyyyeah. Don't format it. Everything will go.

Unplug the system, and plug it back in, then try going to the Mii channel again. If it does this again, then something really is wrong.

I just spoke with a Nintendo rep. He said that this was possibly caused by having the "mingle" setting turned on in the Mii Channel. He didn't have a solution for me besides formatting, so a "lead" representative is going to call me back in a couple days.

The issue has been resolved. For anyone who has the same problem, it is ok to format your Mii Channel. It will only erase all of your Miis, not all of your game saved data. However, it may erase some of your high scores in games that were tied to your Miis like Wii Sports and Wii Sports resort. Metroid Prime Trilogy uses a Mii for each save file but I only had to pick a new Mii for it, I didn't lose any data.
