Just curious if people plan on buying Wiispeak or not. Myself and a few buddies are just planning on using Skype (mainly because we already own laptops). Nothing against Wiispeak, but Skype is free.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't be having a laptop hooked up and running at the same time as my game. Besides Wii Speak is a nominal one-off expense - other than that how is it any less free than going online to play the game?
Yeah I have vent installed but haven't had a server in ages, though they are cheap for a 5-10 person client is i believe two to four dollars. As far as having other machines logged in the Web and running my Wii online I haven't yet had a problem. I guess having to buy another piece of hardware just puts me off.

A friend and I were talking about this last night. I think it's interesting Capcom didn't try to get the Wii Speak bundle in North America as well, maybe they did and we just don't know it?
@Impresario Endless Ocean 2 is awesome. Most hours I've spent on any of my Wii games so far.
Also you can set up your own Vent server for free using your own computer if you download and run the server software. Still, I think Wii Speak would be more convenient since you can just use it through the game itself.
@Holy But you also have to remember; using a built in speech function has its limitations. When you're disconnected from the server for random reasons beyond your control, you lose the ability to speak with your party. Vent and other outside services allow you to keep in touch with your fellow hunters without worrying about who's online.
The real advantage to Wiispeak is you can chat with random people you haven't exchanged other info with.
The problem I have with WiiSpeak is that it picks up everybody in the room. For my kids I think that's good, but for me I'd rather it was a headset and I know my wife would prefer that for when I'm playing a game (and also likes it when my kids are playing a game). I wish someone would come up with a 3rd party headset for the Wii. Seems like it should be doable. Preferably wireless. As such, I'd also rather use a 360 Party Chat.
Mind you, I haven't had a chance to play MHT yet. I've got it, but it was just "No TV Week" and I was mostly going along with that with my kids. I can't wait to try this game out!

Nothing ruins the atmos of a tense online game than the missus coming in and telling you to put the rubbish out.
You can use a headset with Wii Speak - there's an option for it in The Conduit and MH3. You can plug a bluetooth headset into the Wii Speak, apparently.
Animal Crossing City folk + wii speak = $35 + tax @ best buy (best buys where I live) Animal Crossing City folk + wii speak = $40 + tax @ gamestop (gamestops where I live) Maybe this is the same in your area.
i have two wii speaks. i got one with animal crossing, and one with endless ocean. i havent even touched the endless ocean one, i just took the game out and kept the wii speak in the box lol
Why lie? I'm a Nintendo fanboy.
I prefer jumping on my enemies rather than shooting at them.
